September 9, 20223 yr Here in the great U.S. state of Florida my son was in a car accident due to someone running a stop sign and rolling the car he was in. Florida is a no fault state and does not require you to carry insurance to cover medical bills for anyone you injure in an accident. So the person that hit them has the minimum coverage required by law. I have car insurance, uninsured motorist coverage, and medical insurance. My kid was taken to a nearest trauma center and spent two days in the pediatric ICU. Luckily it wasn’t too serious in the end. A few broken ribs and a pneumothorax. Bill is almost 200k and even with all of my different insurance coverages I’m going to be responsible for somewhere around 25k-30k once everything is settled for an accident that was 100% someone else’s fault. Oh, and the hospital put a lien on my house before I was even sent a bill. In basically any other developed county in the world this wouldn’t happen.
