Not just about guns but allowing police warrantless entry into homes under the guise of "community caretaker". If you thought no knock warrants were bad, this would give police carte blanche. Seems like an odd stance for the party that was trying to reign in police.

March 24, 20214 yr 6 hours ago, caesar said: No its not. Hiring of staff (usually younger people fresh out of school), is way different than someone who did stuff in college 20 years ago. And the VP doesn't serve at the pleasure of the administration. It is not a hire/fire position. You don't know anything about official govt policy on this topic do you? The question you get is "ever". It isn't "in the last month". Very much tied to security clearance. It is a stupid and archaic policy and totally hypocritical for Harris to be given a full free pass and young kids to be fired under that policy. Get a grip.

It is not really hypocritical if they are forced to ask per govt policy/security clearances -- but either way, I don't give a flying flip. No one is entitled to a job with the administration. Harris isn't being given a pass, she was duly elected. There is nothing that disqualifies an elected official due to past attendance at Grateful Dead concerts.

March 24, 20214 yr Harris is now in charge of the migrant surge at the border. Cue KKZ's head exploding. Quote WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he has appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to lead efforts to stem migration across the U.S.-Mexico border, as the administration faces growing political pressure to address a surge in undocumented migrant children unaccompanied by parents. Biden said during an immigration meeting at the White House that he had asked Harris to lead the administration's efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle — El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, countries that will "need help stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border."

March 25, 20214 yr Author First PC is on now. I'm catching what I can during my break. One thing that raised an eyebrow was he said that "nearly half of all schools K-8 are now fully reopen." I'm not sure what counts as "full" or where those numbers are coming from, but that's really hard to believe.
March 25, 20214 yr Our schools were never closed this school year. They've been doing virtual instruction since last spring.

Right, but I don't think that counts as "fully reopen." Fully re-open should mean full, in-person classes on a 5-day schedule. We've been on a hyrbrid format on a 4-day schedule this whole school year, except for the shutdown from Nov.-Jan.

I don't understand the rush to reopen school buildings and pack them in when we're still in a pandemic, barely enough teachers can find vaccinations, and none have been approved for children yet. Politicians don't decide when to reopen - it's up to the virus and our tools to fight it. Does this issue play to some old person demographic? How can they understand virtual instruction when they can't even navigate the internet to find a vaccination?

They’re getting limited time. Parents are keeping up their end of the bargain.

March 25, 20214 yr "sleepy Joe" in full effect. not surprising, he's 77 years old. a sleepy president is still better than an objectively terrible one. but here we are.
March 25, 20214 yr Author It seems that they are simply using "open 5 days/week" as the criteria, which is misleading. Many schools are still hybrid, and even the ones that are offering fully in-person instruction, they are having a hard time convincing people to get their kids back in the building. On my drive home, NPR reported that only 42% meet the 5-day criteria, and beyond that, enrollment is still only at like 32% (38%? I can't remember the exact number). A lot of parents simply aren't comfortable sending kids back yet.
