Oh I agree. I see crowds like that, and I go the other way. It's foolish and unnecessarily risky.

But it's not an apples to apples comparison.  1- because it's not a planned and scheduled event by a world leader, and 2- Trump's crowd proudly protests AGAINST masks, whereas this crowd foolishly breaks rules, yet at least acknowledges that they shouldn't be breathing all over each other.

This is all that needed to be said.

  • While I disagree with Biden trying to save these idiots from themselves, it just proves what a wonderful human being he is. IMO we should encourage Trumpbots to all give each other Covid so they die o

Please remember to keep six feet between yourself and others when celebrating the end of 4 years of abject incompetence, and please also drink the tears of trumpbots through a straw so as to allow you to keep your mask on in the process. Thank you for your cooperation.

I live in Brooklyn. I literally heard the news because of the screaming and honking in the streets.  So I saw the crowds, I walked past the crowds, I cheered with them. But look out my window now and the streets are business as usual. This was one day of people celebrating the end of this nonsense.  Trump's months of campaigning revolved around gathering people in crowds, sometimes indoors, mask-less, in celebration of their freedom.

You need to socially distance on top of wearing the mask.  Any event, whether a Trump rally, social injustice protest, or Biden celebration with that many people jam packed in close vicinity is IDIOTIC.

people can't get out of their own way sometimes.

It's either dangerous and idiotic or it's not.  Qualifying something by saying "welllll they were just breaking some rules out of happiness" undermines the position that we can't get this virus under control without cooperation and responsibility. I have been very vocal in my own personal life, as has paco, about how deadly this disease is, the importance of wearing masks, distancing, hand washing, etc.  My sister who contracted it while working on the COVID unit STILL can't taste or smell and her husband, who is a cardiologist, has had her go through a battery of heart related tests for fear of the damage it may have caused her.  Downplaying it and acting like it's not as bad for one side or the other is the definition of being irresponsibly partisan.  You will never see me defend Trump's actions during this - I was disgusted by his irresponsibility and lack of leadership surrounding the virus in general.

How many times does it have to be repeated that yes, it's idiotic? We get it, you guys have this deep seated need to "both sides" everything and draw these false equivalencies now that he lost, but it really smacks of deflection when Trump is the one organizing the events directly leading to the deaths of hundreds of people. He's literally killing hundreds of people but you and KKKz are all like, "But what about those people gathering in the streets?!"

It's just hypocritical.. and it's not like these celebrations are the first large gatherings of this type either... it went on all summer with riots and protests.  But Trump.

Has Biden even come out and said - "hey I appreciate all of the support, but let's stay the course and not break these social distancing protocols at a time when the virus is spiking"?   He may have, but I haven't seen reports of that...   I criticized Trump on his lack of leadership and setting an example in this area, and I was told Biden would be different.  I would like to see him lead on this issue.

Biden: "Please, I implore you, wear a mask"

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

President-elect Joe Biden implored Americans to wear a mask.

"Maybe we saved the life of a person who stocks the shelf at your local grocery store. Maybe saves the life of a member of your place of worship. Maybe it saves the lives of one of your children's teachers. Maybe it saves your life. So please, I implore you, wear a mask," he said Monday. "Do it for yourself. Do it for your neighbor."

He added that wearing a mask is not a political statement but "a good way to start pulling the country together."

"I won't be president until January 20th," he said Monday. "It doesn't matter who you voted for, where you stood before Election Day. It doesn't matter your party, your point of view. We can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months. Not Democrat or Republican lives, American lives."

He added that he wants to be clear that the goal of a mask is "not to make your life less comfortable or to take something away from you."

"It is to give something back to all of us — a normal life," he said. "And masks are critical doing that. It won't be forever. But that's how we get our nation back up to speed and economically. So we can go back to celebrating birthdays and holidays together, so we can attend sporting events together, get back to lives and connections we shared before the pandemic," he said. "We have to do this together."

He added:

"We can get the virus under control, I promise you. We can rebuild our economy back better than it was before. We can address race-based disparities that damage our country. It's in our power. So let's wear a mask."

He also needs to tone it down in regard to getting it under control.  It's invisible and even taking the precautionary measures isn't full proof.  A vaccine won't be either.  He needs to get us un-fatigued and ready to fight for the long haul.  So your life style's different.  It's sick or dead.  Pick one.

This is not him stating that these massive gatherings happening all over cities need to stop.  He's been saying wear a mask the whole time.. that's not new, although I do like that he has been clear on the message of wearing them.

Are you talking about the celebrations after he won? Because those stopped around 11pm on Saturday.

No, but it's in the same vein.  Plus, no one's in the streets celebrating anymore, so there's nothing to put a stop to at this point.  They'll have to figure something out for the inauguration though.

Biden Campaign Urges Supporters To Follow COVID-19 Guidelines While Celebrating

"Wear your mask, social distance,” said Biden campaign adviser Symone Sanders. "This virus is very real and it’s deadly.”

Any hope of Mitch McConnel turning down the partisan rhetoric is going out the window on live tv right now. McConnel will block everything. Biden will use executive orders to bypass the senate. Joy.

I have a brother that was posting videos of a parade he took his family to just yesterday that was TONS of people jammed together - but yes being we are back to the weekdays now that kind of thing will probably slow down.

"We called you nahtzees and fascists for 4 years but lets come together now that we used COVID to win an election"

So libertarian of you to be rooting for a rubber stamp for Bidens horrible policies

Honestly, with 2 runoffs yet to be held, I have no idea why he'd tip his hand so early. Why not feign willingness only to rescind it later after you gain control of the senate? Energizing your opponents is dumb at this stage in the game. Just like ramming through ACB, all you're doing is giving the other team bulletin board material. How anyone can be this stupid, is beyond me.

If you look at it from a certain light, it's more like you used COVID to lose an election.

Yes Mike... Mitch looks at my posts in CVON before deciding his next tactical move. My largest problem with how democrats handled the 2020 campaign is that they DIDN'T call you all fascists. Because that's what you are.

Maybe trying to energize the base before the runoff? If your base is gonna be all frothy and aggrieved anyway, might as well use it.

Sure sure

If the media didnt push the blame for an airborne virus on Trump---who would have certainly shut down any travel into this country if you guys didnt call him a racist xenophone--he would have destroyed Biden.  And the people who are now making Biden out to be some hero would have just left him in his basement and locked the door behind him like in the Cask of Amontillado.

Hes an empty suit and everyone knows its, hes proven it over 50 years

Lol sure we are, based on nothing but your feelings

I cant wait until you have to defend Bidens foreign policy, the true Policy of Surrender, and it will come with loads of our cash going to Iran and China.  Cant wait
