  • While I disagree with Biden trying to save these idiots from themselves, it just proves what a wonderful human being he is. IMO we should encourage Trumpbots to all give each other Covid so they die o

No. Vacancies were filled as they arose. The # of justices wasn't increased and then filled with political puppets to push an agenda. That's what's being proposed now, and it's simply wrong.

Technically the closest thing to the right to vote in the constitution is the 24th and 26th amendments, and they only state that poll taxes are illegal, that 18 is the age of eligibility, and that you cannot be excluded on the basis of age.

The constitution outlines all the reasons the state cannot deny the right to vote. But it leaves most to the states to determine the process.

The 15th?  The 19th??

Maybe so, but I'm just trying to throw ideas out there, and it's not like Congress would take any of them up anyway. It's a minefield. I don't know how you navigate it, but I feel like there has to be some sort form of placation and am trying to think of the least aggressive way that could theoretically be done.

There does not need to be placation. That you think so is the crux of the problem

Then how do you suggest we resolve the situation?

We keep calm and carry on

if you actually trust the system

yes, again those outline the reasons for which the right to vote cannot be denied. it cannot be denied because of race, or having been a slave, nor because of your sex*.

the right to vote is certainly implied by these, but it's also implied that because the Constitution only outlines reasons for which the right cannot be denied, that the right itself is not universal and there are other parameters around which states could use to determine eligibility.

I for one am a proponent of easy access to the ballot box, up to and including mailing absentee ballot applications (not the ballot itself, but an application to vote by mail). I think with the technology we have at this time we should be able to make these things pretty transparent for the individual voter .. for example being able to access the state of your cast ballot, to confirm your choices online (even with the requirement that the original ballot itself would be in paper form), and to be able to proactively confirm your vote if it is contested.

but unless it can be proven that some part of what the Georgia law does violates the poll tax, I don't see how it can be argued unconstitutional. it's clear that the intent is to make it more difficult to vote absentee, and in general I think it's a bad law. but I don't see claims of it being unconstitutional holding up to scrutiny.

You can say the move is escalatory (it is). The real question is, how long can you reasonably expect people to take the high road on an issue like this until some corrective measure is taken?

Not taking the high road is one thing, making things WAY worse another

Right, but what I'm saying is that this was all foretold given the recent history. You and I can sit here and debate the ethical purity of such measures, but that's not the reality of mass psychology. I guess I'm just saying we never should've been here in the first place, but here we are, and you could see it coming from a mile away.

I thought when you had to verify your credentials to exercise a constitutional right, that was considered a "common sense” law. Either that, or all these gun laws have a very Jim Crow flavor to them.

Sure but none of that is reason to start a never ending arms race of expanding numbers of SCOTUS justices.

The Commiecrats want to make the SCOTUS a Judicial Legislature. They view the Constitution as an OUTDATED and must be" UPDATED as they see fit.Very few Commiecrat apointees to SCOTUS were/ are as intelligent as Scalia and Thomas and couldn't carry their robes.

The Ga Repubs want to make  sure LEGAL VOTES are secure. Everytime Repubs want to make elections safer , ballots more secure and make sure there is a LEGAL ID used to vote, the Commiecrats always cry Discrimination and Racist. It's the song and tears over and over again.

Trump LOST. Republicans LOST the senate due to Trumps INCOMPETENCE. And the RENT is too damn HIGH!

DrPhilly, Communist China never tested Trump to see of he was full of hot air nor did the TOWELHEADS test him either .To keep Rouhani quiet, Trump should  have given him the message that Reagan gave to Quadafi.A missile into his house. That may have kept Lil Kim quiet also.            If bleeding heart liberals here believe I'm  racist,  I don't  care. I use the word TOWELHEADS because they want to completely DESTROY Israel and take over the ME and their support of RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM GROUPS.

Yeah, but...

Republicans already packed the courts.  You’re like 5 years late with this post.
