Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

That Dallas game still leaves a bad taste in my mouth so I’m okay with the criticism.

But I do think Jalen is right in that he doesn’t have a ceiling. He is still very gifted. He is legitimately putting up historic numbers and was doing so last year as well.

Not sure if he will have the time/stability to grow into himself, however. Especially in Philly.

Will you guys stop bickering? This is getting ridiculous. Look, the quarterback position is a whole 'nother thing. Eight starts is not enough to judge by, or to give one real NFL experience. And he has done fairly well with that, and also with what he's had to work with.

This post is hilarious. I don't even know where to start

I don't expect perfection from him at all but calling him a rookie is ridiculous. He was able to learn from the bench which is rare these days.

Show me where I called him a rookie.

I didn't say you did I was agreeing with you while the others in the thread were excusing his play for being a " rookie"

Sorry you got caught in the crossfire I should elaborated on that more

Ah gotcha. Either way, I won’t pass final judgment on the kid until after week 18.

That franchise is just a train-wreck right now. Sam Darnold last year finished with a 72.7 QB rating... 4 games into this season with a new team and he's at 95.4. Wilson hasn't been stellar by any means, but I think he's shown some good things considering the dogshit that he's working with as a rookie. He had a nice bounce back game yesterday.

Now imagine how well Hurts could be doing if our coaching staff wasn't idiotic.   If we ran the ball a lot more, and our defense wasn't giving up points on just about every possession, we'd probably be 3-1 right now.

Regardless of all that, his numbers would look extremely nice if he didn't have 4 TDs this year called back on stupid penalties. Three against the chiefs, then the long Reagor TD against SF.

I thought it was six tds called back?

Either way, that is stunning for just four games.  If they hadn't been called back, I believe we would be talking about him as a potentially long-term starter.

His ceiling is about 10 yards.

I don't think he's the one but he's being given this season to change minds

I wonder if that's why we haven't been running the ball. Howie wants Nick to show off what Hurts can do with his arm /sarcasm

At the end of this season, we will all know.  That's how it is in todays NFL- they don't give as much time to develop.

I am not sure if we will find out the answer even by the end of the season. Financially it is beneficial for Hurts to work out for the next two seasons. The Eagles might not love the crop of quarterbacks coming out this year and may choose to go another year with Hurts, but that doesn’t mean that they’re fully committed to him either. There are financial issues at play especially when you consider there is dead money cap money and some bad contracts with older players. I could certainly see Howie using at least one of these 1st round picks for the coming draft in hopes to get multiple first for 2023. Basically Hurts could get two years, but that doesn’t mean the Eagles are convinced he’s their guy.

If he continues to play as he has done through his short NFL career, that would be the ideal long term option for the team. He's shown that he can play good enough to win games but may never develop into an elite QB. IF the team is not convinced this year's crop of QB prospects are any better than Hurts, trading at least one of their high picks for a 2023 first round pick and using the others to shore up their aging OL and DL or adding talent to their LBs/Secondary would be a great option. Fortunately, the prospects in this year's draft align with those positions.

I didn't really consider the financial side of having Hurts, but having a cheap option at the position as you build up roster talent would be a great situation for the team to be in. As long as Howie doesn't do something stupid like trade for Watson or sign Rodgers or sell the farm for some other veteran QB. Like you said, Hurts for two years might not mean he's the future, it might just mean that they don't see anyone better and value building the team rather than shoot their load on one position.

We saw Howie turn one pick into D. Smith and a first next season. If he somehow ends up with three picks next season inside the top 15 of the draft is it really hard to see Howie moving down in the draft (still selecting players in the first but later) and accumulating 3 additional firsts for 2023? Some might think it’s not reasonable, but they have to remember this season is a part of a rebuild. The potential of selecting 7 first rounders in 2 years might be hard for Howie to pass up. Assuming other teams want to move and all. In any case this team needs young talent and to build up this roster. It probably won’t happen, but you never know.

Oh he's definitely going to do some kind of deal to pick up additional picks. If this team are going for a rebuild then he almost has to. And if they aren't sure on the QBs next year then it makes sense I guess to load up a little for 2023 as well as have extra picks in 2022.

When the Cowboys were bad in the late 80s early 90s they used the Herschel Walker deal to load up with players and it made them into a dynasty. Howie has a unique opportunity to build this roster with multiple early picks over the next few years especially if the Wentz trade pays off with a first. Originally I wasn’t on board with Howie moving down in the draft, but I would much rather he do that over loading up in a desperation move for a quarterback. I’d rather he would try do bud the roster and play the long game. Another good thing about drafting multiple first rounders over the next couple of years is the potential to have quality young players under contract over the next 4 years with optional 5th years. Plenty of time to get bad contracts off the books.

2 games - the other team gets 40+
1 game - Eagles reveal a nonexistent short yardage / goal line offense.

I agree. I know it's a risky strategy (but then every approach is) but I think that's the right one at the moment given this years QB class. I mean that's essentially what SF have looked to do right? Build a roster and then add a young QB who they believe can be a stud.

If both of those things happened, Hurts wouldn’t be racking up garbage time stats.

He's just a rookie, cut him a break.

edit.

Yeah, he'd just be putting up solid numbers imo. It's not like his numbers are awful, but he's definitely throwing the ball way too much. With a consistent attack, he'd probably have better passing numbers.

It’s not like Hurts was terrible for most of these games either and he’s had more than a few touchdowns taken off the board due to mental mistakes by players. His haters want to bemoan his late game stats, but don’t wish to see clear moments where his teammates let him down in critical moments during games.

This, and I’m one of his original haters. It’s one part seeing what the highs were with Wentz, and terrified of being in QB purgatory, and one part impatience. We’re all guilty of it. We want rebuild/retool/whatever you want to call it, but damnit if we’re not the toast of the league whole doing it.

Look around the league, we like to point out  Mahomes/Murray/Jackson/Wilson, and immediate success, but we wouldn’t have given them time either. Look at their situations and you’ll find some combination of elite offensive firepower, or a strong running game and elite Defense, none of those are the Eagles. I couldn’t tell you what we are right now. Anyway, they all stepped into supportive environments, all have flaws, but their teams allow them to give it another drive to win the game.

Jalen gets to step into "throw it all day and be prepared to answer for everything.” Oh, and outside of a few splash plays, don’t expect any support on either side of the ball.

Have you guys seen the pass chart for the last game. It looks like 90% or more of his completed passes were 10-15 yards or less. Is that what you want?
