Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Have you guys seen the pass chart for the last game. It looks like 90% or more of his completed passes were 10-15 yards or less. Is that what you want?

You know what I want? An offense that comes together and puts up yards and caps that with points. I don't care how many yards the QB is throwing at a time if the receivers are getting YAC and the QB doesn't turn the ball over. Points are points and that's what matters. That said, there's a good chance that approach won't cut it long term.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

We still need to see more of Hurts to see if he is the long term answer.

Completely agree with you. It's what I've said since the start of the year. One good game doesn't mean he's the answer just like one bad game doesn't either.

It’s gonna be a long process. I highly doubt anyone has the answers they are looking for anytime soon. Truth of the matter is the Eagles have a lot of issues, and Hurts isn’t one of the bigger issues this team has.

Agreed. And I think they need to put more pieces around Hurts on this team (mostly defense) before they can really even gauge if Hurts can be part of a winning football team.

So much energy and effort is being put into if Hurts is or isn’t the guy people are ignoring some glaring weaknesses on this team. Really Garner Minshew is going to fix the Eagles??? People need to wake up. Ironically many of the people putting this all solely on Hurts spent the last three years blaming everyone but Wentz for the problems of this team.

Yeah I had noticed a trend there to be fair. Those who defended Wentz are some of those who are getting after Hurts. I think given everything I feel as good about Hurts now as I did before the year started. That's not to say he's the answer though.

I don’t think it’s time to say he is or isn’t the answer. I think he can play in the NFL though.

I didn't say that did I!

Seems like that’s exactly what you said?

This is what I said. I did there's a good chance that approach won't cut it long term. I said I want an offense that puts up yards and points. I don't care how they do it as long as they are successful long term. If an offense can be successful long term by throwing short and getting YAC then great. If not then find a way that does work.

If Hurts repeats his performance from last Sunday against a better Carolina defense, I will feel much better about his prospects.

That sounds pretty normal to me.

From a 2016 article:

Of all fan-bases, you should understand how that  6-8 yards at a time offense can be effective and may be preferable.

it seemed like Chip Kelly's offense was never on the field for more than a couple of minutes, score or punt. The defense was never off the field for long and was gassed by the end of the game.

Also, it seems the league is enamored by 2 deep safeties. So, if you can run, or have a decent short pass game...

That Monday night game at Dallas, I was watching the Manning bros. Payton mentioned more than once 'The Eagles sure are committed to that 2 deep look, even when Dallas is running well and the TE is killing them'.

If Hurts is comfortable doing that, and can be effective, let him, until someone stops him. Eventually he will gain confidence, and the Eagles will acquire an O-line, and he can go deep more often and more effectively.

What is the long term approach? The last "franchise quarterback” never won a playoff game and the team was only three games over .500 when he was the starter. Is that was the "long term approach” you feel like you need more of?

Brady basically spent a career doing that. It sure worked out well for him. People love the 50/50 ball so much. I guess they forgot how most of the time those throws actually didn’t  work often for the Eagles and how often they blamed the receivers for it over the past four years. Meanwhile receivers are literally walking out of bounds when Hurts throws it, but it’s his fault. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Joe Montana turned mostly short slant passes into 4 Super Bowl championships. Big arm slow footed quarterback is not the only way to win in the NFL contrary to popular belief.

Rent was running a little late but it's paid in full, lol. Good job today Jalen not giving up and not getting down after the 1st half.   They aren't going to all be pretty or shootouts.  This was a good defense and you hung in there.  Keep growing.   Start #10 right around the corner.

Hurts is a nice guy but there's no way he'll match up against Brady this week.
Especially not on a short week.

Maybe a week on the bench would snap him out of his stupor.

I'd start Flacco in this game. Let the old vets have a shoot out.

What the F for? It achieves nothing, Joe Flacco with no run game isn't doing crap against Tampa and teaches us nothing about the future at all, the fact is if Hurts isn't the guy there's no one coming out of college this year that is, and giving Houston or Seattle the picks to rebuild their roster to ensure we can't rebuild ours while paying a 100million dollar QB contract would be dumb as rocks.

Like Hurts or not, you have to play him to see what you have, what he can develop into. There are zero reasons to put Flacco out there.

It isn’t illegal for the coach just to call a run play. He actually calls passes. He can do it for runs as well.
