Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Featured Replies

Mitchell Trubisky raised his completion percentage from 59.4 to 66.6 year 1 to 2.  Obviously a hall of famer that did not get the opportunity he earned.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

Can't blame Allen for it.

I've felt this way since we traded for minshew, but I was a fan of his production considering his supporting cast was doing everything in their power to make him look bad and he still had a 4/1 TD int ratio

Are you just imagining words on the screen that you are then reading?  Who is saying this is Jalen's biggest strength or saying anything to even indicate that is what is being stated?

I'm pointing out that you need to let  young QBs develop.  It is possible for QBs to improve dramatically over the first few years of their career.  We witnessed improvement from year 1 to year 2 for Hurts and I have every reason to believe that he will again improve in year 3 and to a degree that I think will be bigger than his improvement from year 1 to year 2.

Oh BS. You hated Foles from day 1. You had no interest in his development after a 27-2 second season, so cut the BS. This has nothing to do with allowing young QBs time to develop.

This is mor of an inside joke with @downundermike but, yes still true.

Foles turned into a turnover machine his second season starting.  He took a step back in back pretty much every meaningful area.  Also showed a tendency to get injured often.  Hurts missed some time last year with an ankle injury so it will be important for him to remain healthy this season to show that will not be an issue for him in his career.

Lol all good. I've said to multiple people we have cam Newton lite lite and I'd prefer Alex Smith lite on the bench for now

Here is the core of what I just fail to comprehend from Hurts' supporters:

We have a very bad passer at QB...someone who has improved from a very, very bad passer.  His ceiling is likely that of a better, but still below average passer.  By the time he reaches that ceiling, his compensatory running ability will likely have tailed off.

So my question...what the hell are we arguing about here?  Is this seriously how low you want to set the bar for the most important position in sports for the franchise that we all rabidly support?

So ... we're going to pretend that his running abilities will be in a state of decline when he reaches the imaginary ceiling as a passer? ... And you're wondering why I'm not on board with all the pretense? Unlike you, I don't pretend to know the future.  I don't believe that just because it rained yesterday that we can only conclude that it will rain tomorrow. It might rain, it might be sunny --- we don't know.

Way to miss the point. You had ZERO interest in him even getting the 2nd season as a starter. You never cared a lick for seeing how he could develop. Clear double standard.

The weather analogy doesn't work here because there is a daily forecast and more often than not it's spot on. Allen is a huge storm that they thought wouldn't land on the coast and made the turn and did. Looking at hurts in the same mold is like waiting for snow in July....not counting on it. The indicators and projectory for a reach second round pick who only made it into the mid 20s in a lot of key places as a QB. Him being a runner puts him in a high injury rate projection as well

Weather forecasts are great as they give us an idea what to expect up to the next 10 days or so. They use current weather data in computers and generate prediction "models." I trust them more for my immediate weather forecast than my fellow posters here on the EMB. Likewise, I'm not overly impressed with scouting reports from our forum's pseudo-scouts pretending to know a player's fictitious "ceiling." I don't look to my peers here for their weather predictions nor their player projections. We all have opinions, but real scouts don't post 500-1000 times in 3 months trying to persuade readers to join a crusade against a player.

Current Hurts data is not very good

Some of that data is good.

With respect, anyone who calls Hurts' ceiling as a passer "imaginary" doesn't really have a valid opinion on QB-ing.

Sorry, I call all floor and ceiling talk imaginary. It means absolutely nothing. It's a fake parameter.

Ok.  Gardner Minshew’s ceiling is Tom Brady.

What was Tom Brady's "ceiling" coming out of college? Projections had him as a career backup with an unspectacular arm. Let me know when they figure out how to measure heart and drive.

Heart and drive mean nothing without an arm.  And what makes his heart and drive better than anyone else??  Most people do their work quietly, they don’t have to make videos and make sure everyone knows about it.

Can we not reach for Tom Brady and Josh Allen???  Brady's story is of legend and was a tremendous game manager who built himself into more. We haven't even seen Hurts manage a game correctly but a few times against very weak opponents.  Id honestly be happy if he could get to game manager status that had mobility, but he hesitates too often atm and then takes off.  And when it comes to Allen... Man had elite mobility and arm, just needed to work on his feet and the gray matter between his ears. Hurts has the mobility, but not the arm or gray matter parts yet.

So every lousy qb is going to become Tom Brady or Josh Allen until they unquestionably prove they suck for 3-5 years as a starter?

Someone better bring back Koy Detmer, Andy Hall, and a few others.  They never got that shot.

You don't think throwing the ball away on a 4th down is proper game management?
