Lost in all of this is how well Sirianni has managed everything.   He turned the offense over to Steichen last year when it became obvious that he wasn't doing a very good job and he allowed Steichen to change things up dramatically.  Sirianni could have gotten stubborn and held on to the play calling.  But instead, he seemed to be confident enough to delegate.  He also could have taken back play calling this year with a fresh start, but instead, he's still leaving it to Steichen.

And I don't think enough can be said about what Steichen is doing.  He's done very good things (granted, with far more talent at the skill positions this year than in years past, at least at the receiver position).  But he's not forcing things and he's using some great schemes.  Some of the wide open receivers we've seen have been due to excellent route running, but most of the time, its been due to some very creative schemes to create that massive opening for a player to catch and run.

On the flip side... Gannon seems to have grown greatly in the past year with the improved personnel.

Not all of this growth can be attributed to the weakness of the schedule, though it could be argued that some is.  But, if this team manages to win 13+ games... its very possible that the Eagles will lose both coordinators in the offseason.

Wasn’t there a report or something saying Gannon wasn’t even running his defense last year because he didn’t have the personnel for it yet? Does it look the same this year formation-wise?

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

It is a different defense this year.  A lot of the schemes are similar, but not entirely.  He can get the matchups he wants more frequently, because he has better players in positions more suitable to their skill set.   For example, we don't have Cox or Hargrave lining up at NT anymore.  That's always Davis when they go to the 5 man fronts.  That frees up Cox and Hargrave to move to the 4i alignment, which is much more suitable for their skill sets.

He's got a far better pass rusher now in Reddick than he had last year.  And he has Graham, that he can use as an interior rusher in a 4 man 'NASCAR' style front.  Graham isn't what he once was... but lining him up as a pass rusher over an OG is still a mismatch for the defense.

And, on the back end... Bradberry has been balling out (in pass coverage).  He's a major upgrade over Nelson.  CJG also provides a much better player on the back end than Anthony Harris or Rodney McLeod.

And for the first time since he's been here... he's got a legit LB in Kazir White.   And when you put all that talent around him, TJ Edwards actually looks like he belongs out there in the NFL, whereas last year he just looked to be too slow.  The gaps in the zones were just too big because they played a super soft shell defense and hoped that opponents would shoot themselves in the foot to stop themselves.  This year the defense is actually getting stops not just managing to get off the field (The last possession against Jax as an example... they got off the field with a strip sack, not an overthrow from the QB.)

So, what he has is the personnel to allow him to do the more creative things that he wants to do, versus last year trying to mismatch pieces together.

I was saying last year that I didn’t want this guy, because when he came back from that injury he did not look good. You can’t play well into your 40s (at least not as a starter) if you’re a mediocre quarterback. So many thought this guy was the missing piece. Could you imagine if he were here? The same people who wanted him would be killing Howie, and the coaches for his mediocre play. The Seahawks are better without him, and like Wentz I’m glad he’s not our problem.

Wilson may not be a "running" QB but he still relies on his legs a lot to buy time and move the pocket and what not. So it was only a matter of time before the hits caught to him because he isn't a traditional pocket passer, yes he can play from the pocket but, still isn't a major part of his game. He isn't drew Brees.

All that being said I agree, I didn't want him either for the reasons you said and what said.

He's so vain. What a bad leader... how can we get behind this guy...

He probably thinks this post is about him

@Iggles_Phan has it right though, the coaches deserve a lot of credit, especially Sirianni for recognising his weakness in playcalling, and seeing one of his crew can do better. That's amazing leadership, team first and no ego.

Personally, I just don't think every player is just plug and play in every situation. It takes a while to get used to a whole new team (players, coaches), a new system, different terminology, a different climate. Going from the team that drafted you and had success with you for many years where the fans were completely behind you to a new team where they gave up a ton to get you and have you framed as "the missing piece" can often lead to what we are seeing. The grass isn't always greener. Wilson has been a top 10 QB for most of his career. This "new beginning" has been a bust so far, but I wouldn't write him off as a player just yet. This year might be a struggle, but familiarity and comfort should help him rebound next year. After all, the broncos are pretty much committed for the long haul.

That's the best picture of the season so far.  Rodney McCleod even gets an appearance in it.

For the Eagles he absolutely would’ve been a bust. All of the draft capital and salary he would have commanded would have killed this team. All the upgrades we are all loving right now would not be here. No defensive revamp. No AJ Brown. No Davis at DT. Jalen Reagor a starting wide receiver. It would’ve been a disaster and I’m glad it’s not the Eagles problem. The Eagles we’re right to pass on Wilson or dodged a bullet from Wilson not wanting to be here depending on who you talk to. Either way it worked out better for the Eagles. I’ll add in Denver he was supposed to be the missing piece with that defense and those weapons. I’m sure the last thing anyone in that organization or fan base wants to hear right now is wait and see when they’re paying 245 million to a 33  (soon to be 34) year old quarterback

And considering the rams and the BUCS and even Denver before with manning all did plug and play and won super bowls Wilson needs to get his sheet together he is supposed to be elite, he's getting paid like it.

Well it’s been revealed that Russ is injured. I guess that’s why he’s not throwing to wide open guys.

The Cardinals have a really bad pass D and their offense is a mess right now. They give up an average rating of 103.9 and they have an NFL worst 4 sacks. They are bottom 10 on all 4 metrics that go into passer rating  (ypa, completion%, TD%, and INT%)

Their per play run defense is mediocre but bulk stats look good because everyone throws on them at will.

The Cardinals are 29th in yards per play on offense and 27th in yards per play allowed on defense.

This could be a huge game for Hurts.

Donovan (The last Eagles QB to win the Arizona) Congratulates Jalen in the Locker Room (The Eagles QB that broke the 21 year drought).   The 2022 Eagles are 5-0 for the first time since the 2004 Super Bowl Season.

Certainly not his best game, but 300 total yards, 2 TDs and no turnovers is a decent day at the office.

Obviously he was lucky on the int that was dropped. And The Eagles were lucky to get out of there with a win. But it's a win nonetheless.

He completed 72 percent of his passes, while averaging less than 7 yards per attempt. For all the "he needs a better completion percentage" critics, you got what you asked for.

The line looked pretty ragged at times, and we need to get better for our next matchup. That game is looking absolutely crucial as the NFC East might have three of the best four teams in the conference.

He’s getting a sound education on how to deal with multiple defensive attacks. Just seems like every week the team he’s facing attacks him in different ways. You can see he has more confidence in throwing to his guys out there. He got away with one today. The safety definitely baited him into that throw, but he also had to make a heck of a play on that ball to bring it down too. He not only had a high completion percentage, but he also made a lot of clutch throws today too. Big third down throws to keep drives moving. I’d like to see his throwing tds go up, but wins are wins. A win on the road in a place we haven’t won in what seems like forever is a good win.

The third down play at the end is the thing that scares me about him still. There will come a game when he has to throw against a very good defense and he will be late, stare them down, and/or make a bad decision.

It's great he looks better in some ways but that is still a major issue.

He needs to start throwing TDs in the red zone.  He’s on pace for <14 passing TDs in a 17 game season.  It’s clear the goal line offense means far too heavily on running and is not comfortable scoring through the air.

Cute effort, but the ones who can win a Super Bowl don't have that as a major concern on their resume. Trying to like the guy but he looked like the old Hurts again today on that throw.

I’ll echo sentiments I made in the GDT yesterday.

I obviously had no reason to criticize Hurts after the MNF game. I did however feel he had three boxes he needed to check off.

First, don’t fall flat after a great game, against a division opponent with Wentz on the other side…check.

Second, his first two outings against Dallas haven’t gone well. Both in Dallas. To many of us, they are still our most hated rival. Must play great against them in a few weeks at home…TBD.

Finally, call it fair or not, Jalen’s success leading into this season hasn’t come against great opponents. Mostly, it has come against bad teams. Through no fault of Hurts of course, we again have a weak schedule, with little chance to change minds against good competition. That said, this team has set expectations that winning this division is very real, and should be expected. Therefore, we will be in the playoffs again with a home game. Hurts has to show he can play on the big stage against playoff competition. Say what you will about his game these last two weeks, if we go one and done in the postseason, all this is for naught, and if you think his detractors were vocal before, you haven’t seen anything yet.

I’m not the president of his fan club, but I’ve enjoyed these last two games, especially since I didn’t like either opponent. Props to how he’s played this far. Now keep it going.

Here we go. The chance to check off the 2nd box comes 1 week from now. For EagleVa, that's 7 Earth spins.

This is a biggun. The winner of this game will be leading the division, and have a leg up on the other team with a rematch later on in Dallas. Jalen's first 2 outings against Dallas haven't gone well. Both were in Dallas. This is a monkey he needs to get off his back.

Go get it young man.

Love this f'in attitude.

Nah, man, I was told that he's arrogant AF.
