Jalen Hurts - shoulder sprain injury; expected for playoffs

Playing games that's what this is. He may have a sore shoulder, I'm sure he does after a lot of games. He took some hits, he played in really cold conditions and he threw 37 passes. I'm sure he's sore and I'm sure he's aching. And he may not play Saturday but that will be precautionary and because there's no need to risk him. If they needed him to play he would and he'd be fine.

Thing is I don't think he's really that hurt, he's probably just sore. You don't hurt your throwing shoulder and be unaffected by it like he was in Chicago. I won't be surprised if this is just game theory by Siri and Howie.

Doesn’t matter who’s the QB if the Oline can’t block, the WR’s can’t get open, the coaches can’t coach and the GM can’t identify talent.

  • So we had to listen to an entire week of "He runs too much".   What will the talking points be this week?  Jalen and this Team can win in multiple ways.  Stop trying to put him in some box where he on

I agree with this. If this were the playoffs he’s playing for sure.

A shoulder socket injury can be serious and take a long time to heal, if the cartilage is damaged. It won't be fun throwing a football if there's jagged little pieces in the joint.

Let's all hope this is just a "sprain".

It seems like an over blown boo boo. He was completely unbothered by it in the game and did not show any discomfort during the post game stuff. A couple days rest and he is right as rain.

In regards to DAL taking shots at him, that's where a smarter game plan comes in. Heed @eagle45 advice and sit his behind in the pocket for quick passes and straight handoffs.

Likely flared up afterwards. I could see discomfort on his face after he got smush smushed. Damn shame. I'm convinced they could have ran all over Chicago with the backs and left Hurts unscathed.

That's what I'm saying bud. I think he's sore and I think he aches. If you take a few hits (especially in the cold) then you are going to ache the next day. I'm sure most players who played yesterday are pretty sore today. This is purely to make Dallas prepare for Minshew or Hurts. Its just playing games because ultimately they know they don't need Hurts to play in this one.

I think there was 1 run to the RBs in the 1st half.

Not sure how many were RPO though. Need to go back and check.

Yep, you don't put a dinged up Jalen Hurts out there to take unnecessary shots, and you know guys will want to go after him, and maybe even after the whistle.

I already posted the stats, but QB's are more than twice as likely to get Hurt outside of the pocket.

That may be, but the fact is it's football and injuries happen.  Guys get non-contact injuries too.  When you have a QB like Hurts that is dual threat and going to take advantage of his running ability he's not going to become solely a pocket passer.  I think McNabb wanted to shy away from the "running QB" label so he tried to pass from the pocket more.  He was actually more effective (it seemed) when scrambling and making throws.  The defense would need to adjust and account for him to run and it would open things up for a WR.  I see Hurts try to do that more this year, he's looking down field and trying to make a throw.  Sometimes they are designed runs.

What they can do is try to limit or reduce the runs or just be smarter about it.  I think he was being smart majority of this season.  I don't know what the hell they were thinking yesterday he should have been handing the ball off unless it was wide open like that TD where he just waltzed right in.

He uncorked that bomb to Brown and he was throwing deep late, but how much of that was him running on the adrenaline though? Also I think Minshew could handle that type of offense as well. If they can’t have Hurts be Hurts (maybe not as much running though) then why not rest him?

Adrenaline can't fix a bum shoulder, not to that level. Also he had multiple throws on target after that injury, Adrenaline has to have come down by then. I think he was just plain unaffected by it.

Oh for sure no doubt. If he had any kind of soreness during the game they'd have taken him out. But it was a close game and they needed him so he stayed in.

He had a 330 pound DT drive him into the ground on that shoulder, and laid on the turf for quite a while.

I hope you’re right bud. I don’t want to see anything unnecessary happen to him.

He did yeah. And if i smash a good gym session I'm sore the next day... He'll be fine. Give him the week off and get him ready for the Saints.

Really? And you know this how? Have you taken a hard fall on your shoulder the way he did?

I did - and I didn't have a big body on top of me. My shoulder hurt like hell for months,
and wasn't completely healed for about two years, I'm not a beast like Hurts but
cartilage is cartilage.

I thought it might have been a separated shoulder for a second, but he got up. Dude is a tough cat. I think he might want to play, but sometimes you have to protect a player from himself.

From the reports the injury isn't really that bad. And we saw him throw dimes and be unbothered by it. If he feels no pain during the week, he plays, he will also push to play.

Right now if I were a betting man, I would say he plays.

Multiple people including Schefter, Garaffolo and Rapoport are saying him playing the game is in doubt. On a Monday. Not on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning. Just be thankful it's nothing serious.

Yea, he played with it. Adrenaline does a lot in a situation. Once the game stops and you stop your throwing motion, it's going to hurt. On top of the usual hurt QB's go through. Whoever the starter is needs to get practice reps too, which start tomorrow since it's a short week and Friday is a travel day.

Bryce Young sprained his shoulder this year and it was bad for him. But after he was hit, he couldn’t throw the ball again. He missed 1 game and we lost 2 games because he lost his zip on the ball.

Big difference, he arm was extended when tackled. I think Hurts will be fine after a week of rest!

I have no ill will towards Jalen, you know what I prefer in a QB.

But the first thing I said when that happened was "oh ish".

My wife came out of the kitchen and wondered who got hurt.

I'm just glad he's not out for the season

They need to sign Foles now!!! 🤣

Don Corleone twice in one day.  It must be Christmas.

Well, Minshew has better weapons than Foles did.  This team is built to win with a game manager.

Think Cowboys will load the line to stop the run and make Minshew beat them.  Up to the staff and oline to help him out.

Ultimately we all want the same thing and that to win. That’s all I want and honestly don’t even care who does it. I believe right now Jalen gives us the best option to win, but next man up.

I think he'll be fine and be ready to go for Dallas.

Throwing to Smith, Brown, and Goedert he can.
