Like you said, when you're at the beach, it's rarely the ones you want to see. But the further north you go (e.g. lago di garda) you get a nice mix of Swiss, French, Germans, Swedes, etc. Such a popular vacation destination for Germans in particular, some local restaurants had alternate menus in German.

For those, I'd say there is an abundance of riches all across the country. Florence, Rome, Venice, Amalfi coast, Ligurian coast, beef and pork based dishes with cream based sauces, fish and other seafood based dishes in spicy tomato based sauces, etc. As far as immigrants go, many people are saying the south isn't sending their best. From Calabria specifically, I hear there are a lot of morons, criminals, thugs, rapists, etc, coming to the US from there. Some, I assume, are good people.
