Yeah, public education obviously isn’t perfect, but I personally think the majority of the outrage and reason people say stuff like:

”every time you see someone who grades a problem like this in this way (which I’ve honestly only ever seen on the internet)”

is because there is lobby group pushing for privatization of public schools because of the massive amount of money they feel they can profit from it.

There's a lobbying group, alright, but they're definitely not pushing for private schools.... And it's all taxpayer money

Wait. That’s a legit thing?

I confess it really happened. I was tired of my kid losing points for getting the correct answer, showing work, doing it the correct way. Teacher said something about the way arrays are written they had to be exact... The class hadn't discussed commutative law but she was setting up the lesson.... I was livid.

As you should have been.  I probably would have launched into a tirade how they are no longer teaching math and it's become an art class before schmoopie drags me out of the room by my ear.

It's almost like we are hiring life flunkies to teach our children.

Yeah, a lot of then remind me of a typical NFL coach...they can only teach one way and a lot are stubborn even when proven wrong.

During COVID lockdown virtual learning, we got to witness our son's 2nd grade teacher. Her lack of knowledge about basic things. One funny example she was reading something I guess for the first time and read the name of a country:

Hi-tie.

Haiti. It was Haiti. But now my wife and I always call it Hi-tie.

Lmao. Wife an i were at a zoo and some lady kept telling her kids a polar bear was a panda bear lol, repeating it over and over again. We have called polar bears pandas ever since.

I'm not complaining about my kids schools, we love them and its only happened a couple times. But an educator shouldn't be so inflexible and stubborn.  On the plus side I'm happy my kids stand up for themselves when they think they are is right and it's a good learning experience.

Yeah I reivew all my kids work and if theres a case where the teacher is being too strict or pedantic, or the problem was worded in a weird way, I tell my kid not to worry about it because she understood the intent of the problem and how to solve it. They're still young so grades don't really matter right now anyway, so long as they're learning the concepts correctly. In high school though, she'll have to make her case to the teacher instead of me.

annoying fake laughter but a funny video...
