September 29, 20213 yr Yeah - we're in the boat of just kinda doing laundry here and there as needed - sometimes folding sometimes using out of the basket. Those people who have a once a week laundry day where they wash, dry, fold and put away ALL the clothes worn that week are psychos

I'll pay the $2. everything else goes in the laundry, and if I can fish it out of the basket all the better. the wife does most of the laundry stuff honestly. I pack the kids lunches and cook, she mostly does dishes (I try to be a good citizen while I'm cooking on that front) and the laundry.

It's the top of the unused dog crate. I pretty anal retentive about 2 things...a clean kitchen and folding and putting away clean laundry. Wife definitely takes advantage of this. I swear she does laundry everyday. By does laundry she means put it in washer, then moves it to dryer. That's it. She always then "runs out of time" to fold and put away. When she cooks, it looks like a bomb went off in the kitchen. Me...I clean as I go.

I admit that my natural tendency is to be pretty messy in the kitchen. I view cooking as a creative process, and this nonsense of "cleaning" gets in the way. But I've tried to get better, as the wife understandably complains that the whole "I cook you clean" dynamic is pretty out of whack when I cook meals a few days a week that each use 3-4 pans, along with whatever prep cookware. I also have no real issue with dishes in the sink. I don't leave them so long they become science projects, I just don't have anxiety induced fits when there's a handful of dishes in there. My wife on the other hand cannot settle down in the kitchen if there is something in there, so if I want to enjoy the hot meal I just cooked with my wife I need to plan accordingly. We have septic, so we spread out laundry out through the week rather than doing 4-7 loads on the weekend like we had done when we lived closer to civilization.

I mean I'll sit down and enjoy our meal as a family, but when I'm done it's war kitchen and I'm not stopping until everything is clean and counters wiped down. It's why I love grilling. Feel like I can make better meals with a quarter of the dishes. Oh and I like sitting out back drinking beers.
