I mean, I did say that it’s biased towards the literate, who back in the Victorian Age (one of the more cited peaks by these studies) by definition would have been the elite.

That said, there are plenty of writings you can find of "normal” people in the 19th century. Reading some random farm kid’s letter to his family from the Civil War will make you think.
