Couldn’t care less what the media is told as long as those that need to know are kept in the loop behind closed doors.

Yes he made throws from the pocket, particularly the TD to Alshon where he stood there and took a big hit. But he ran for 106 yards, had a lot of rollouts and was moving a lot. That's a good strategy with his skill set and a shaky O line and playing a tough defense. But teams always figure this out and take away the run for the QB, assign a spy defender to account for it and force the QB to sit back and make throws. Every few years or so people get very excited about mobile QBs but it is always proven that you cannot be a run first QB. Now, a QB that is mobile and a dual threat to run in addition to delivering passes, that is the key. I think that's what Hurts can be if developed and coached properly. From what I can tell he's a very hard worker and coachable. I like the he has been repeatedly saying he can learn from every opportunity he's given to get playing time.

Agree. The Philly media is very entitled as if the team owes them answers all the time. Many of them are glorified TATErs and you hear the disdain and frustration in their questions, it's not professional and it's why the coaches get annoyed and don't want to answer their questions. One question a few weeks ago was "Why is Alshon Jeffrey even on the team?" It was rude and insulting, how is the head coach supposed to answer that? The media are in business to make money drumming up topics for controversy. WIP thrives on morons calling in to complain. They pick the idiots and then suggest that all Eagles fans are like that. They're not going to put the level-headed, rational fans on the air. The sports networks all have these "debate" shows now where they purposely take sides and troll to get ratings. They want fans to look forward to what so and so has to say about the player's performance, or what zinger comebacks they'll have prepared to debate. Having said that, professional athletes know this and NFL teams have media and PR people to prepare players for handling these things. You have to put your big boy pants on. I respect that Wentz has said this this year, he knows that when you are the QB of a football team you get attention and criticism and that's what he signed up for. He hasn't whined, he hasn't complained, he hasn't thrown anyone under the bus. He's taken ownership of his mistakes, he's congratulated and encouraged his teammates and Jalen Hurts. Hurts said Wentz was giving him tips on the defensive looks and encouraging him on the sidelines. These are good signs. Carson is a good person and mature in many ways. But he's also cocky and doesn't want to change. He's said he won't change how he plays. So the best case scenario here is that this time of him sitting allows him to have some humility and rethink things. Take this offsesaon to refocus, work on mechanics, study film like crazy, work on accuracy and some of the basics. If there happens to be a new coach whether HC and new staff, or just new OC or QB coach he will need to listen and accept teaching. I do think he is salvageable, he at one time was ready to become an elite QB and was playing so well under Reich. It highlights the importance of good coaching. There are many things that have happened to Wentz from injury, to seeing Foles win and them drafting Hurts, and having injuries to his teammates and such. He needs to do some soul searching this offseason and reboot his career. If that's with another team or here, I think he can do it but I believe that work is on him and his choice.

Part of the reason for that is defenses have to account for his mobility - laterally and vertically. Wentz has lost much of the mobility that made him special early in his career so defenses can pin their proverbial ears back. Which is why he's taken a pounding this year.

Pass rush has to be much more disciplined in their rush lanes with Hurts running threat which helps the OL tremendously.

What happens if Hurts gets figured out by defenses, doesn't adjust to deliver more passes in the pocket or...gets hurt? One of the reasons Howie cited for taking him is that Sudfeld wants to go somewhere else with a chance to be a starter. So would they re-sign him, plus pay money to Wentz to play for another team? You think Lurie wants to see his investment going to play for another team and pay for it? You keep Wentz and Hurts, it is what it is at this point. You see how things go. At one point Wentz was on his way to being elite and the future. So you don't know if Hurts is now the future either. If they ditch Wentz and keep Hurts, I would assume they take a QB pretty early again in the draft.

Having only 5 picks in 2019, I hated the Thorson pick, and I don’t follow college, so I knew nothing about him as a player, but with only 5 picks, I thought they should have taken someone who at the very least would compete for playing time. Thorson was likely a 3rd string deactivation every week, even if he made the roster.

Wentz was NEVER a good pocket passer. He always held the ball too long looking for home run plays. Hero ball to the max. It worked before with a great OL and when he had great athleticism. Now that both are gone, his style of play is totally exposed. He never learned how to be a pure passer.

Single season leader in passing yards, passing TD's, also 6th best another season, completion percentage, and then........ On 3rd-and-long situations (seven yards or more), Wentz was among the best quarterbacks in football. The Eagles quarterback was 44-for-71 (62 percent) for 727 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions for a 117.5 passer rating. Wentz wasn't just great on 3rd-and-long, but was arguably the game's best on 3rd/4th-and-short. Wentz was 20-of-24 for 186 yards, five touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 138.4 passer rating. That success led to the Eagles becoming one of the best third down teams in the entire NFL. The Eagles were third in the league in third-down conversion percentage in the 13 games that Wentz played at 45.31 percent, leading the league at 46.79 percent on the road. Wentz also finished first in touchdown percentage (7.5 percent), first in yards per completion (13.5), fourth in quarterback rating (101.9), and first in total quarterback rating (74.4). He also finished second in the NFL in touchdown passes (33), despite not playing the last three games.

None of this contradicts what I said. Wentz is at his best running around making plays "off-schedule". That's a lot harder to do now with mediocre (instead of great) OL play and mediocre (instead of above average) athleticism. He was NEVER a guy who quickly processed the field and made accurate throws from the pocket like the top QBs do.

I don't know the contract side of things if that's how it could work but it's a thought. That would be best for both sides, especially if he wants to be a starter.
December 15, 20204 yr Really can't decide anything until you at least see what happens the rest of the season. What if Hurts has bad games? What if he gets hurt? Let's just see what happens.

Here's what I mean. From 2019 - MUCH WORSE inside the pocket vs. outside the pocket. You're not fooling anyone into thinking Carson is a pocket passer. Everyone who has watched this guy knows he's most effective when he scrambles on broken plays.
