Time to put Howie back in the basement? - Discuss Howie Roseman here

Buckley wasn’t a bust at all.

He may not have been the star player we all wanted early in the first round, but he was a very good run defender and started for a lot of years in the NFL.

People forget how good our defense was in 2008 when we went to the NFCCG — he was a huge part of that.

Yeah I think people throw out the bust label too easily.
Jordan Davis for example has definitely been disappointing for the 13th pick but is far from a bust.

Completely agree. Davis is a decent to good DT. He’s not lived up to the hope and his draft position but he’s a good and a solid DT who has made plays in the league.

Take Howie Roseman. Howie was sent to the basement. When he came back to the building, he was a new Howie Roseman. A hungry Howie Roseman.

To paraphrase you know who and when

Shades of 2017 all over again when Howie hit on all his free agent signings/trades (Ajayi, Blount, Chris Long, Patrick Robinson, etc.) and got instant contribution from that year's rookie draft class/UDFAs (Barnett, Rasul, Hollins, Clement and Jake Elliot).

Seeing that now with Barkley, Baun, Becton, Burks, etc. (All B's!) and getting instant contribution from the rookies Quinyon, DeJean, Hunt, Shipley, etc.

Hoping we get the same result again...

I think a big difference is we are getting tremendous help from the other draft classes over the last 2 years. Where the draft class in 2016 and 2017 were not as good or were terrible and there was not much of a future going forward ( other then what we thought we had in Wentz) .  This team is loaded with young talent going forward and looks to get better and better each year as they develop and gain more chemistry.

Howie's interview at the combine.

  • Notes that moves he's made in the past were from a place of disappointment (like trading Bradford after drafting Wentz)
  • Admits that his weakness is drafting inside Linebacker
  • Reaction to Fangio saying the 2nd half was unacceptable to the defense: Jalyx is a rookie, may have exaggerated. Fangio was excited and celebrated the good things too, and that he was kind of joking about it. He also said Hunt is the one who called him "Big Pimpin" so take that for what it's worth.
  • We're not gonna be able to keep all the free agents, need to play younger draft picks.

Howie needs to win a couple more Super Bowls to prove himself.

Anybody know how long Howie's contract with the Eagles is? I can't imagine him leaving. Shudder the thought.

Google is your friend.

He signed a 3 year extension in March 2022...through 2025. Expect another extension soon I would think.

That is why I posted the question. All the Internet shows is that his extension expired in March - so we're not getting the complete picture online.
