Listening to NFL Radio this morning Charlie Weis said that he would need a satisfactory answer as to why Zach Wilson was not one of the team’s offensive captains last season.  Apparently the players vote on 4 captains, and Zach Wilson wasn’t one of them.  I would agree you’d think the starting QB should be one of those guys.

He also said he believes the Patriots should draft Mac Jones at #15, so there’s that ....

I keep hearing this captain thing but why does he have a C in every picture on his jersey?

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Eh, upper 30s is a little chilly.

I don't know why anyone believes that the coaching staff is who was making that call.  We already know Howie had say over the gameday roster and who would play/start.

Howie caved and paid JP more to play tackle.  Howie was the one making the calls for JP to play over Mailata.  Howie was also the one making sure Alshon was playing over Fulgham because likewise Howie gave Alshon more money.

Your guess is as good as anyone elses.

I'm heading out in 10 minutes for a run. It's in the 20s here though

We're supposed to get hit with 25 cm of snow today. I think that's about 10 inches

Ehh, we know Howie had authority to make those calls.

Speaking of the 2018 class, here are some draft results.

Keep in mind that the Eagles picked last and had 5 picks. The formula doesn't use draft slot, so even though picking 1st is easier than 20th, it doesn't normalize the scores.

- Eagles rank 13th in value per player
- Eagles rank 30th in total value

Essentially, the players the Eagles drafted were good but because only 5 were drafted the total class value was poor. Given that they drafted last in each round, they actually did a good job in 2018.

Shame that a draft class ranking 30th in total value happens to the best class we've had in the last few years.

Listening to the BYU radio program they said BYU is a unique program, in that they have a lot of older players and returning missionaries on the team.  Wilson was on their Leadership Council but not originally voted a captain.  The other reason they gave was, leading up to the season, the BYU coaches were having an open QB competition, so it wasn’t as though Wilson was a lock to be the starting QB at the time the vote was taken.

Not much different than what Jalen Hurts had a OU, where he had to win an open QB competition to win the job there.  Doesn’t sound like there is much to the story.

Sure he has the authority.  Who the F thinks otherwise?  He's the GM, but you are 100% guessing at who actually made the call.

Yeah, and it's pretty obvious what's happening. Indy is the best fit for Wentz on a number of levels, but Ballard is trying to lowball Howie.

Howie could simply screw Wentz by trading him to Chicago or another team for the best offer, but he's waiting to see if Indy will match his best offer, or come close, and do right by both the Eagles and the kid. If Howie was the **** some make him out to be, he'd simply move Wentz to the highest bidder and not play this waiting game, and when the kid failed in a bad situation, crow about how he was right to dump him. Sending him to Indy has the most potential to make Howie "look bad," but that's not the holdup, Ballard is the holdup.

That isn’t the way I see this at all. I think Howie is playing a little Banner here.  Carson has a $10 million roster bonus coming up.  Howie needs to convert that to a signing bonus for some cap relief.  If he is playing full Banner, he is probably using Carson’s play last year to argue to reduce his salary.  I suspect his agent is playing hardball threatening not to do the bonus adjustment without something for Carson in return.  Howie probably responded by taking trade calls as an option.  If rumor is correct that he bristled at Flip’s coaching and was standoffish with Taylor, then drop hints about offers to the gullible press.  Press reports that Chicago and Indy are the front runners.  Carson, preferring a more pliant Press to Flip, has his agent respond, fine trade him to Indy.  Howie drops leak that Chicago has the better offer.   Simple boob for tat negotiations.  Play a strength, concede a weakness.   In the long run, Howie has to walk a fine line so as to not totally alienate Wentz. I suspect that in the next few weeks, we will hear that Wentz’s contract has been restructured resulting in increased cap space.   Doubt that Carson gets anything much out of the deal.

By OTAs, Carson is coming to compete and also arranging time with his receiver group down in Houston.  If he is smart, he includes the new TEs and the three returning RBs to the group because I believe Sirianni incorporates them a lot in the passing game.  I am hopeful that the coach, OC, PGC can sit with Carson and Jalen like the new coach did with Rodgers in Green Bay and go over what works and doesn’t for each QB.  The drama of the restructuring of his contract in the rear view mirror.

Yeah.  Last winter was our first winter in NC and we got spoiled.  This year it's just been so GD wet.

The last few days have sucked especially. Cold rain non-stop. My least-favorite kind of weather. No real measurable snow this year either but who's complaining? Not me. I like only having to run the heat once per winter.

We were supposed to get 5-7 inches but that backed off now 2-4. I hate winter.

Otherwise known as "guessing"...not necessarily grounded in facts, since you don't know the facts.

Grounded in the facts that Howie had finally say over Doug on the gameday roster and who started over who.

Still guessing.

Someone needs to find your nemesis, bobbywizdum, so you guys can debate each other, while the adults talk.

Didn't hear this comparison before, but sign me up for faster AJ Brown.

Not really. It is going to be impacted by some southerly currents and not get that cold.

I don't think any of this has been confirmed.

This is all what Caplan thinks. If Frank Reich said something like that, he would be found to be tampering.  Could lose a draft choice for that kind of statement.  Putting it in quotes is unethical in my view because it suggests Reich not Caplan said it.

Well Caplan likely didn't write the headline but I agree it's misleading.

I might agree if the trade talks hadn't escalated to the point where stories were coming out of other cities.

But we really don't know, it might be a negotiating ploy, Wentz might really want out, or they are in love with Hurts.

For one thing, we have no idea how Sirianni feels about either QB, but you know the first thing he did after being hired (and hiring his staff) was spend a week or two watching film of both QBs. So he's probably sat down with Howie and talked about the pros and cons of going with either QB, and whether their flaws are fixable.

If Chase has trouble separating from athletic CBs, that's a big plus for Pitts, who can out bully him with his size and reach.
