If the Colts can bring Wentz back to 2017, it's a great trade for them.

If they can't and they get the 2020 version, it's a good trade for us.

If it's somewhere in between, it's a fair trade.

Not when you consider the cap hit.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Probably right about that. But say the Eagles go 3-13 in 2021 or something and have cap room again in 2022. I wouldn't put it past Howie to try and go crazy in free agency if he thinks his seat is getting warmer. Which I would not do. I want to build through the draft. Add blue chip talent. Amass loads of cap room, and then supplement the missing pieces in a few years once the young talent is amassed.

17 game season starting in 2021.  You must mean 3-14

At least we don't have any valuable players to worry about injury in the extended season.

Oh yeah, it looks so asymmetrical and gross.

I had to put Afan on ignore.

There was a brief fleeting moment in time when afan came on here after an extended absence and said something slightly critical of Howie, so much so that I questioned my own sanity. Like that feeling you get if you've ever seen a dog walk upright on its hind legs.

If you hadnt noticed, the team had a horrible year.

Really....Really that’s what you came up with?
The fact that he had one bad year and Lurie had him coming back then did a 180 after talking to him.

You are either drinking the Afan Coolaid or breathing In too much of that Polluted Hazleton air.

I'm with you. Some of those aren't happening. Cox/Lane/Brooks are with us no matter what.

The rest though? If they're trading them, we generally will save cap space.

Problem is  you are paying almost the same to sign a replacement players, and just because you get rid of that salary, that is not the total of the cap savings.

So lets say you trade Graham, take the dead cap hit of 17.2 million to save the $ 716,000 dollars on the cap.

Then the next guy moves up into the top 51, Grayland Arnold, with a salary of $ 780,000 dollar cap hit.

So you actually have a net loss of $ 84,000 in cap space.

I doubt it happens but Cox could actually trade. Lane and Brooks the cap hit and dead money makes it impossible. Cox it is 21 dead money but you clear 2+ mil in cap space and he has value around the league especially to a contender. I’m not saying they do it but if you are willing to take 33-34 mil dead money hit for Carson for 3rd and potentially a 1st i can see them thinking about dealing Cox if they got good value and just taking the dead money hit. And with Cox by the time you get out of the rebuild in two years he’s not gonna be the same player with a big-time contract. You’re almost better off trying to get value for him now then letting him play out the next two years in two seasons that are probably going to be bad

Yes, BUT it frees up 2022 cap. That should be the name of the game.

At least with Carson gone, we can fully commit to rebuild. Trade vets, acquire picks, aim for a top 5 picks in 2022.

Just don't pick a QB at 6.

Be prepared, this is the most likely scenario.  I hate it, based on the prospects that will be there, but I see it happening.

Additional picks and such don't help us unless the decision making structure is changed and a real GM is brought in and empowered.

The Eagles should be a solid contender for another top pick next year, perhaps higher than we are this year.

He said the Alshon Jeffery 2nd extension was ill-advised.  That's all he's ever said.  He also said he wouldn't be happy with a 2nd and 3rd round return for Carson, but that was before they actually did it.  Now he's happy with it.

Did he ever respond to your inquiry about his relationship (bias) with Roseman?

He’s basically Dave. Anything the eagles do has a spin even if it’s a bunch of BS that in reality if another team did it would call them moronic.

No, he doesn't have to answer to any of us about the bias.  That's his right if he wants it.  I honestly asked out of sheer curiosity.  There is something weird going on there and I just don't get the motive.  It's there, we just don't see it.

The question is why.  I don't even get mad (when the talk sticks to the Eagles); I just get more curious.

Which is exactly what I said about Ertz after 2019.  We are moving guys a year too late now.  Rather than right on time back in the Banner years.

Ive said i would look to deal guys like cox, slay and Graham if you are doing a rebuild. I said last year do a rebuild but i knew they wouldn’t cause they bought into the last month of the season hype and howie spun it like they were then pivoted due to a pandemic. Frankly i think that’s BS he didn’t want to do a rebuild last year and thought they were closer than what they actually were

At this point in time yes. It’s all about 2022. Get rid of dead weight now. Try to have a solid draft and hit the ground running in ‘22

7 minutes ago, Desertbirds said:

I think the dead money is $34 million but the deal actually saves some cap space. The dead money was going to happen with any trade and they would be in a terrible cap situation even if they didn't trade him.

Yep.  The one to keep an eye on here is Sanders.  He's got 2 years left on his deal.  Our offense has nothing, just a QB who will be crashing the running lanes.  They should beef up Sanders' stats and trade him...maybe even at the deadline to a team in need of RB help.

If Howie actually believes Hurts is the QB going forward, he’ll draft him a WR or Pitts at #6.  I don’t think he has the foresight to trade back and take BPA

Probably doesn’t want to believe it’s really this bad cause the SB glosses over the rest of the decade that was marred by controversy, power struggles, up and down QB play, paying two QBs 100 mil to be franchise guys that didn’t happen and below .500 record the other 9 seasons.

in 2025 there’s a chance we look back from 2017 onward as 2017 was the ultimate lightning in a bottle for the eagles

Lol a 3rd and a future 2nd. If Howie drafts a Qb at 6 I will lose my Fing mind

He was a Roseman toady before the SB win.

I think Howie will go down as the worst best GM ever. Worst best simply because of 2017

I think more realistic is to have it al hit the ground running by 2023. I think you are right get rid of guys who by 2023 are going to be exiting their prime or out of it. Get value for them now so it can help you build toward that season. Sucks but the draft picks are more valuable then wasting cox or slay’s last couple prime years in seasons where we aren’t going to be good regardless

Is there some generational qb worth tanking for next draft? Not that i see yet...
