If they are going to draft a QB at six they will trade Hurts as well. As much as I hope for them to draft one....can't see Howie doing it. He's invested too much in this.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The trade might change things for Carolina, WFT, and the 49ers, Trey Lance has the North Dakota stink on him now, kidding. Hopefully  one of those teams will give the Eagles picks for their 6th.
Trading Hurts now would be a hysterical crap storm, if Howie keeps his job after that, he’ll never be fired, like ever.

The conspiracy theories in here are just pathetic...

Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Ryan Tannehill.

Wentz is in the class of Matt Ryan, Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield, Jimmy G, Jared Goff, etc. and that's 2018/2019 Wentz. Yet people are upset that the Eagles got a 3rd and 2nd that is likely to become a 1st for him.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy that the eagles are going to be bad next year

The Colts 3rd rounder we just got is only 15 picks ahead of the pick we traded for Avery. ( not including comp or Rooney rule picks)

Goodnight.

Fans have trouble accepting crap happens in sports, just like business (as an economic historian who has chronicled some doozies of billion dollar mistakes, "it was a good idea at the time").

Wentz was a good move at the time, in 2017 it looked brilliant, then he was injured and lost some mobility, still played well in 2018 but Doug really didn't know what to do with a highly mobile QB morphing into more of a traditional pocket QB. As long as Stoutland kept the OL together, the flaws could be hidden. The extension was signed after the 2018 season where Wentz still looked like a top ten QB who might evolve into a top five QB.

Nor was it a bad deal, QB salaries were $30+M or more for the top ten best paid, Big Ben $34M, Cousins and Goff $33M. Mahomes deal shows what happens if you wait.

2019 is when the cracks started to show with Wentz, the OL was solid, but the skill players deteriorated, and Doug's scheme showed its holes.

2020 the roof caved in. Some was Wentz, some was the OL, some was Ertz getting injured, a lot was really bad schemes and play calling by Doug (run, we don't run the ball here!)

If the Eagles thought Hurts was as good as they say they thought, then it was a no-brainer, because Wentz in 2019 regressed, a strong finish against weak competition, but an erratic season that raised questions. If Wentz felt threatened by Hurts, he's not a franchise QB, no franchise QB would feel threatened by a late 2nd rd pick who was a 2 year project. Drafting Chinn would not have helped Wentz.

Trading Wentz is the right move, because he's messed up mentally and I think Siri concluded he couldn't salvage him. Reich probably isn't expecting the Wentz of 2017, he'd be happy with the Wentz somewhere between 2018 and 2019, he has no dead money, and if Wentz can play a notch above Rivers, Indy has a shot at 12-4 and home field advantage in the playoffs. Which also means that if Wentz's "success" is a QBR of 65 or so, i.e. he's 15-20th among starting QBs, no loss, he wouldn't do that here. Now if he's in the top ten, yeah, there's some seller's regret.

As far as Hurts, I laugh at anyone who can "know" how good he is right now. Give him a full offseason of coaching and practice, draft a top weapon (CHase/Pitts/Smith) and some other help, and give him a full season, then you'll have a good idea what you have. We've seen QBs make big jumps in year 2 and others flat line.

After those picks it will end up about 25 spots later and furthermore one thing has nothing to do with the other. Fail.

And some fans have trouble accepting it’s not just players who regress over a 4 year period of time. That regression can also be found in coaching, GMs and even ownership.

I’m just stating a fact. I didn’t realize they were so close.

Perfectly said. F Howie.

The fact is that they won't end up being close at all.

I’m rolling with Hurts + vet backup and giving him a chance in 2021. Surround him with weapons, starting with pick 6 (or trade back). They need WR & CB just as bad as a QB and the likes of what will be on the board at 6 aren’t worth it.

Tyrod Taylor would be a good backup. He hasn't been terrible anywhere he's been, was about average in Buffalo

I wouldn’t be surprised if the backup they bring in is mccown. He obviously isn’t a great player but very highly thought of in the QB room and can be like having another coach in that QB room.

Isn’t he coaching now? Maybe I’m wrong

He was also retired when the eagles convinced him to come out of retirement and i believe also coaching his son’s team. Texans interviewed him for the head coaching position.

A name to think about is Mariota, the TE coach, Michael, was the OC for Tennessee when they drafted Mariota.

His salary would be tough to bring on, especially if he hits his incentives. I think his base is 10 mil without bonuses. But I wouldn’t rule it out.

He should be the Texans head coach .... except for that Watson ......

Loseman is the king of self preservation. Drafting a QB at 6 would give him even more security/time so it’s what I expect to happen at this point in time.

It makes sense, they probably won’t be as bad next year, maybe 5-6 wins which makes it a 8-10 pick in the 2022 draft.  They can use the picks they received today to move up in this draft.

They are in no position to be giving up picks in this draft, especially not for any of these quarterbacks.

We’re never going to be in position to draft the top QB unless we somehow sink to Jets/Jags level. Most SBs are won with QBs that weren’t no brainers when drafted.

They need to do their research on these QBs and if they love one of them take him.

I mean that's not strictly though though is it? We could build up a really talented roster and then go get a QB we highly rate? If we build the roster right and build around young guys then we could at some point in the future trade up and give up a lot of picks. Or we could get lucky and get a really good guy later in the first round. Or we could trade for a proven QB like the Colts just did with Wentz. OK that move may not work out but the Rams just traded for Stafford because they believe he can make the difference and they have an extremely talented roster.
