Nah, say he wins the first three games, everyone is on board.

I'll respectfully disagree.  And since that won't be enough for me, I'd say clearly not everyone will be on board.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

It's amazing that the Eagles won 4 games last year.  There was drama all over the place.  QB, HC....GM fighting with players at practice.  We haven't made a definitely good draft pick in ages.  We are redefining what it means to be in cap hell.  QB: gone.  HC: gone.  Entire staff: gone.  GM: going strong.

Hint: The roster wasn't bad, but the coaching/QB was atrocious.

So a guy who was top 10 in every QB category while throwing to UPS drivers with an Offensive coordinator who got fired at the end of the season isnt capable of winning a superbowl.

seems legit.

You know what you call a QB who needs top 10 WRs and top 10 RBs in addition to the top 5 OL he already has (talking 2018/19 here) in order to be successful? A QB ON A ROOKIE CONTRACT.

You don't win 4 games with bad coaching and a decent roster.  You win 4 games with a bad roster and bad coaching.

The hero worship in this thread continues to be mind boggling. Can't win a Super Bowl without a franchise QB? Carson has ZERO playoff wins.

2017 Carson is an unreasonable benchmark for him. The 3rd/RZ efficiency was historic, and anecdotally I remember a lot of his TDs coming off short fields.

So if 2018/19 Carson is the real Carson, that guy is not winning you a Super Bowl, and he sure as hell isn't at $30 million a season. Give me a break.

Its not about the individual player as much as losing any and all faith that our FO has the slightest clue what theyre doing

They made a big plan then completely pissed all over themselves

The longer it goes on its clear that 2017 was just a magical run and the FO really had no idea how they got there, and certainly werent prepared to sustain a winning organization after that win.  Their massively inflated egos ensured failure for years to come.

Shefty reports Wentz and Pederson didn't speak for 10 weeks last season

renderTimingPixel.png

Prior to benching, Wentz and Pederson didn't speak for months. Wentz skipped meetings and refused to work with Pederson due to Eagles drafting Hurts.

https://975thefanatic.com/2021/02/19/adam-schefter-breaks-down-how-the-wentz-deal-came-together/

If that is true about Wentz , eagles should be ecstatic he is out of philly.

Very immature behavior.

Regardless on how anyone feels about Wentz (myself included) we have to hope that Hurts can be the guy and throw our support behind him until otherwise indicated.

No.

I want the Eagles to go 0-16-1. It's the only way to get Roseman out of Philly.

Yes the roster had nothing to do with it... starting mills at safety with barely any nfl safety experience. Relying on maddox to play the outside when he’s been injury prone and not very good on the outside then releasing the depth they had. Relying on injury prone desean and 3 rookies during a pandemic offseason to be good enough. Bringing back peters to play guard when he’s never played guard. The linebackers having no one until Singleton played. Yes the roster was definitely not an issue lol.

Kelce situation becomes interesting.  He can't return here.

He clearly doesn't want to stop playing, otherwise he would have already announced his retirement.  This is the same guy, however, who flipped out over the concept of tanking.  There's no way he's coming back here to win 3 games on a roster designed to tank in 2021.

There have been some bad things said about Wentz, but this one is unbelievably messed up.

If true, thank god he is gone. Thank god we got something for him. Again.. if true.. F that guy.

You missed the Super Bowl, evidently.  Mahomes was missing 2 OT.  The Eagles were missing 4 starting OL most of the season.  Mahomes is the highest paid player in the NFL — biggest contract in all of sports, actually.

A QB NEEDS "SOMETHING” TO WORK WITH

Lol Schefter reporting that Carson and Doug went up to 10 weeks without talking to each other last season 😂😂

Nothing like the eagles leaking info after the fact to justify themselves. First doug gets fired day later it was doug and the coaches who wanted reagor and scouts and howie wanted jefferson. Trade wentz and leak out this is what he did. It’s like clock work any time someone leaves the organization they do this. Apparently desean is still in gangs according to eagles leaks. If I remember correctly they did the same thing to mcnabb after they trade him.

They aren't going to tank , players have pride  so do coaches,  they just may not be very competitive.

Hot Take of the Day!!!!!

Name one player under 30, on this team that would get you a 1st round draft pick in return.  I'll go a step further.  Name 3 players under 27 that would get you at least a 2nd round draft pick in return.

The roster is bad.  Terrible actually.  I'll go round and round all day on this one.

Lol sadly accurate. Jordan is probably the most valuable, but still has question marks.

The 2020 roster is not the same as the 2021 roster. The 2021 roster is going to be awful.

Fletcher Cox had a really good year (again). Is worth a 1st? No because of age/money. Did he play better than any 1st rounder could have?
Yes. It's not the same thing.

If the report of Wentz not talking to Doug for 10 weeks is true, it makes sense why he kill killed out of every play 😆

A running game and a running QB is not a trend in the NFL.  It's a discussion that pops up once every 3 years for a few flawed teams who stumble into a surprisingly good season and then fall back to anonymity 1 year later.

High level franchise QB and high level skill players while just getting by on defense is the right approach, at least until multiple teams consistently prove otherwise.

Im not talking about a running QB.  Im talking about an adequate QB who is capable of passing or running and just making plays, and building your team that way instead of trying to find the magical superhero generational QB who really doesnt exist.

This is absolutely a trend in the NFL, the signs are everywhere.  Theres a reason teams are offloading these big QB contracts, and moving guys around.  Teams are starting to understand the value of rookie contracts (Eagles themselves are an example) and keeping cap flexibility for the rest of the team year to year

You don’t think not talking for 8-10 weeks is 100% on the head coach?

Have you ever managed anyone in your life?  Have you ever had kids?  Have you ever dealt with a customer?  The person in authority is accountable for the work environment — 100%

Something remarkable to think about...

Now that the fire sale is on, it's reasonable to say that we do not know the immediate fate of Cox, Kelce, Slay, Graham, Mcleod, and Barnett.  Due to extreme injury risk, we also do not know the status of Lane and Brooks.  We also don't know exactly where Mailata will play next year (RT/LT, swing tackle).  Seumalo may be LG or OC.  They may be drafting a QB top 10.

Throwing in all those uncertainties...RB, TE, 1 DT...3 positions on the entire team, out of 22, have a starter locked in.  Absolutely amazing.

15 minutes ago, eagle45 said:

In isolation, it's not such a bad trade...maybe even a good one.  A QB who was horrible last year, now wants out, is on a mega-deal, and we get a 3rd and a possible 1st.  (Almost certainly a 1st if he plays well and often enough to make us miss him in any way).

It's just a tough pill to swallow because of the closure of it all...the final realization of how horribly things have deteriorated: a franchise QB with a massive draft investment gone for conditional picks in a future draft, the largest dead cap hit in NFL history, a franchise left with 0 talent, 0 direction, and 0 prospects at QB (no offense to Hurts).  A GM so disgraced yet so secure in his footing that he could actually undo so much for so little while the franchise pretends everything is fine.

The NFL is built differently than it was 30-40 years ago.  So for the old timers who say that we don't know what bad is, we are spoiled by the Eagles...that doesn't entirely apply.  In 2021 with the parity and salary cap built into the league, this is about as badly as you can nose dive a team into the ground.  Sure, there are the Jets/Buffalo/Cleveland playoff droughts that we have not (and hopefully/probably will not) endure...but again, this is as acutely bad mismanagement as it gets.

Agree. Getting a 2020 3rd and a 2021 (likely) 1st for a guy who was terrible in 2020 and clearly wanted out was a solid job by Roseman. If the initial offer was 2 2nds, I like getting the 3rd this year and the conditional 1st next year (as an aside, had the initial reporting been a conditional 1st instead of a conditional 2nd might have influenced reactions, so makes me think Schefter's sources were in Indy). Anyone complaining that we didn't get more, given the situation, is delusional. Think of it this way -- Stafford, who played better and has a much better/friendlier contract (2 years, $43mm with no guarantees vs. 4 years, $98.4mm of which $40.4mm is gteed for Carson on 3rd day of year (full 2021 and $15mm of 2022)). So 2 years of Stafford for $43mm, but full flexibility, or 2 years of Carson for $47.4mm with most of it guaranteed. Stafford got the Lions a 2021 3rd, a 2022 1st and a 2023 1st, but the Lions had to take back Goff's brutal contract with $43mm of remaining guarantees over the next 2 years. So...if that 2023 1st was for taking Goff, then we basically got the same deal for Wentz that the Lions got for Stafford by not taking back a brutal contract.

The problem is how we got to this place -- getting put in a corner where we had to trade him in the first place. Drafting Hurts was remarkably dumb -- we knew Wentz bristled at the Foles stuff, and once Nick is gone we draft a QB in the second round. If you think Wentz should be tougher, well, you knew he wasn't and gave him that contract. If you weren't sold, exercise the 5th year option for 2020 and draft Hurts. But signing him to a massive deal and then bringing in a 2nd round QB for a guy you know won't handle it well? Idiocy.

Then, you hire a new coach and don't get Wentz on board with it? That was legitimate insanity. The dead money is basically the same as having him on the roster, so it was a free option to keep him for 2021 and see if the new staff can fix him. How do you not sell him on that idea, and instead trade him for no savings? We all heard that they were looking for a coach to work with Carson, and then this? You have a guy who has shown a massive ceiling -- if you are spending the cap space anyway, take the year to see if he is fixable.

So, saying Roseman did a good job with the trade is a akin to congratulating your kids for mowing the lawn...after they burned the house down.

When there's smoke, there's fire. There have been reports for years to Wentz is difficult to work. But Wentz slobbers to continue to ignore this.

Nah, dream on. If that is what happened, this is on Wentz, 100%.

QBs like that are way more entitled than normal employees by the way.

Doug will need to comment on this.  He is looking to be a coach again in the NFL.  He will need to clear this up.  Otherwise, he looks really really bad.
