I also think it's foolish to think Hurts made this team significantly better.  He looked like a rookie QB that is a better runner than passer.  He had an abysmal completion percentage.  He often was too quick to rely on his legs.  He has significant work to do in order to be a competent QB. It's unclear that he can be anything other than what he showed. What he showed wasn't enough to make this team anything other than a bad to mediocre football team.  Carson played terribly in 2020 but there were 4 other seasons where he played much better than Hurts did.  In Carson's first 4 games as a starter, he threw for over a 1,000 yards, 7 TD's, 1 INT and had a completion percentage of over 67%.  Let's see Hurts approach Carson's numbers as a passer before we declare him the better option.  He's unproven and did nothing last season to prove he has more potential than Wentz.

He didn't make the team significantly better. It was a bad team that was well aware they were a bad team by the time he took over.  They certainly were a better team with him though and he was more productive than Wentz.

Fact is when you take Hurts rookie year and compare it to other Eagles rookie QBs of years past it does comparw favorably.  He might not have the highest ceiling but he certainly showed he can play in this league so it will be exciting to see how much of a step forward he can take in year two.  There is also no doubt that he has handled adversity far better than Wentz so he likely had a better level of mental toughness to handle playing in this town for this clown organization.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Why do you keep bringing up Wentz.  I am talking about the Eagles and their players.

You are like the cult of Foles crowd talking about players who are not here.

And I do not see Hurts being any better than what we have seen.  One read and run does not work in the NFL.

Your Hurts hate is so transparently tied to your wild swing to being a hardcore Wentz apologist that was in complete denial about his unhappyness here and inevitable departure from here.

It's February, Don't even know when they'll be able to have mini-camps.

It's more a statement that Gannon has looked at film and decided Avery has no future at DE, so try him at LB before you cut him or trade him for a 7th rd pick.

Hmmm.... Somehow, I thought he was worth more than that.  I wonder why?

None of that has anything to do with the only QB on the roster completing 46% of his passes in the second half of games and leading the team to points on 2 of 22 drives.

No wonder there is already talk about bringing in another QB.  Hurts is not the answer, and another wasted Howie pick.

Hurts is so mentally tough... he was seen saying "that's not right on the sidelines" immediately after getting benched in a game where he had more yards per carry than yards per attempt and an INT.  And he left Alabama as soon as he could without having to sit a year on the ineligible list.

I'm tired of hearing about the comparison of mental toughness between Wentz and Hurts.   We'll see what Hurts has this year, I just hope it's far more passing from him next year and far less running.

Not sure where you’re getting this from.  One guy was 3-8-1 and the other was 1-3.  No real difference.  The Eagles scored 81 points in Hurts’ 4 starts; they actually scored more per game with Wentz.

The most concerning aspect is the results were getting much worse the more Hurts played.  The defense beat NO with help from Hurts’ legs, Hurts showed flashes against ARI but didn’t finish the game well, he played poorly against DAL outside of one deep throw to Jackson, and was awful by any measure against WFT.  7-for-20 with a lot of missed gimme throws.

It has nothing to do with hate for a player to point out valid concerns.  Maybe he takes a leap forward in 2021 with a full time starting gig — but the signs don’t point that way at all

It's fascinating people want to call Wentz coddled in one breath while coddling Hurts in the next.

Its ok to point out his flaws or things you don't like about him. If he has it in him he will ultimately prove it. If not he wont.

There is no reason to bring Marquise Goodwin back. $4.8 million is too much for a 31-year-old WR who can't stay healthy.

Is anyone actually suggesting this?  I thought it was a foregone conclusion that this dude would never play a down for the Eagles once he opted out last offseason.

No one knows if Hurts can be a capable starting QB, most of all the people who post here.

Simply insufficient information right now to make an informed guess.

So those who claim they "know," declare their ignorance.

By next December, we'll have a clue.

I was arguing against this about a month ago, but I'll admit my mind has changed -- I think the Eagles will trade Brandon Graham.

I've brought this up too and keep getting told he's a rookie and it happens.

For a kick, I went and looked up SAM DARNOLDs 1st and 2nd half splits for his rookie year and he was still at least somewhat competent and that Jets team is even worse than ours and has been.

Team scored 20 PPG with Wentz and 23.5 PPG with Hurts.  Hurts didn't get to play in the 4th quarter of the Redskins game even though he was heating up with the offense.  He did however play the 4th quarter of the Packers game which sparked 14 points for the Eagles while Wentz and the team produced only 3 through the first 3 quarters.

The Saints win was by far the Eagles best all season.  With Wentz they only beat a bad Giants team when Wentz was awful until the end of the game, a bad Cowboys team with a 3rd string QB when Wentz was absolutely awful until the 4thvquarter, a bad 49ers team with a 3rd string QB when Wentz was terrible until the 4th quarter.

Do you realize how completely ridiculous and absurd your expectations for Hurts as rookie apparently were with how you are nitpicking his rookie year when he honestly provided an improvement over the guy we just traded even though he was a rookie who wasn't able to get any preseason play.  Compared to Eagles rookie QBs of the past, Hurts 4 games was right there with the rest of them.

McNabb - 2-4 record, 49.1%, 948 passing yards, 8 TD passes, 7 interceptions, 313 rushing yards & 0 rushing TDs.

Foles - 1-5 record, 60.8%, 1,699 passing yards, 6 TD passes, 5 interceptions, 42 rushing yards & 1 rushing TD.

Wentz - 7-9 record, 62.4%, 3,782 passing yards, 16 TD passes, 14 interceptions, 150 rushing yards & 2 rushing TDs.

Hurts - 1-3 record, 52%, 1,061 passing yards, 6 TD passes, 4 interceptions, 354 rushing yards & 3 rushing TDs.

Stop with the perfectionist standards you are throwing at him and declaring him this trash QB who has no chance in this league.  He flashed obvious talent, he displayed passing skills that showed even further development from his jump at Oklahoma and for sure exceeded most expectations.  He has been through adversity and has come outside on the other side better because of it.  You can tell he has a killer instinct drive to him and a silent chip on his shoulder mentality that drives him to put the work in and improve when he has a lot of doubters and haters dati G back to win he was a teenage in college.

You want to bet against him? Fine go ahead, you'll be the one looking foolish for it in the end if you're wrong. But he's earned the right to show us the jump in year 2 he will take before we write him off because you're upset that Wentz is gone and you want to take it out on the guy who took his job last season.

Funny how he was putting up more PPG than Wentz if he was only doing it in a half of each game.  Reason more than anything to see him in year two to improve his second half play.

Hurts left Alabama because he lost the job, not because he wasn’t mentally tough. He had to do the best thing for his career by leaving.

He showed his mental toughness by staying ready and helping Alabama win a playoff game off the bench.

That's what I was originally thinking too. Plus the leadership.

What changed my mind was thinking about Graham all those years ago in the Senior Bowl playing under Jim Schwartz and how great he looked. Then he gets an injury, then plays in the Billy Davis scheme, and we don't see that Senior Bowl level Brandon Graham until Schwartz gets here in 2016.

They're going to extend Barnett. They basically have to. They should extend Sweat (either midway through this coming offseason or next offseason) unless the medical is prohibitive. Gannon's system is a lot more read and react. I just wonder if we're going to see massive regression from Graham this year, and think about how much better he could be on a contending team.

The really funny part is he was.

Are you attributing the 14 points the Eagles scored in the 4th against the Packers to Hurts or Wentz? Because the Eagles with Wentz that game only scored 3 points.

I see you are still clinging to this second half stuff.

Disregard that Hurts produced more yards and the team scored more points with him than with Wentz.  But hey you have this arbitrary negative stat from his rookie season so let's cling to that forever.

This just in.  My sources have reported that "second half stuff" has been important in the success of every single team of all time except this one:
