Hurts left Alabama because he lost the job, not because he wasn’t mentally tough. He had to do the best thing for his career by leaving.

He showed his mental toughness by staying ready and helping Alabama win a playoff game off the bench.

So, when a QB loses his job, and decides the best thing for his career is to leave... that's not a sign of mental toughness.    Good to know.   I'll remember that.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

That's what I was originally thinking too. Plus the leadership.

What changed my mind was thinking about Graham all those years ago in the Senior Bowl playing under Jim Schwartz and how great he looked. Then he gets an injury, then plays in the Billy Davis scheme, and we don't see that Senior Bowl level Brandon Graham until Schwartz gets here in 2016.

They're going to extend Barnett. They basically have to. They should extend Sweat (either midway through this coming offseason or next offseason) unless the medical is prohibitive. Gannon's system is a lot more read and react. I just wonder if we're going to see massive regression from Graham this year, and think about how much better he could be on a contending team.

I think trading is the smarter move, especially in a rebuild and in a perfect world they could and would. My main drawback is the cap situation. They have to get under the cap before these trades can be complete and you can recognize savings. Howie is going to do everything he can to close the gap via releases but he's going to have to kick some of the can into 2022, I just dont see any other way around it. Graham has the second highest cap number and could open up about $10M in a restructure. I'm not sure he has enough moves in him to take that off the table.

Ridiculous. It was a business decision.

And clearly the correct one.

Man what a fun team to watch.  Not that dream teams are good for the Olympics but as an 11 year old kid this was just so freaking fun to watch.  Plus they had all sorts of dream team gear to beg my parents for!

Of course it was.   What's good for the goose is good for the gander, no?

By the look on his face, Ewing and Pippen just gave him a swirly.  Then if he smiles in the team photo, they will be one player short on the flight to Barcelona.

US Basketball just wanted the in with Coach K.  So, they threw him a bone.  Frankly, they could have put anyone in that 12th spot... it wouldn't have mattered.   They could have just played with 4 on the court.

Yep, that's the major obstacle. How close would they get with Cox and Johnson restructures, the inevitable cuts (Malik, Alshon, Goodwin), the inevitable Barnett extension (assuming as at least $7 million in cap savings)?

Could come down to who's more valuable on the trade market between Graham and Ertz. You could trade Graham and cut Ertz if Graham could net you a 3rd (seems ambitious) from a contender. I don't know, we'll see. I just don't think Graham on the Eagles makes any sense in 2020, and I think if he is here, his decline will be sad to watch.

I don’t have a problem with Wentz wanting out, but I also don’t think Hurts transferring as an amateur and Wentz wanting out despite a $100M contract are particularly similar below the surface.

Hurts also stayed an extra year.

You said it was about his career... not money.   Big difference.

Hurts stayed as long as he had to.  If he had left a year earlier, he would have lost a year of eligibility.

Bc he was regarded as a poor player

Hurts might not have had a career if he stayed at Alabama. That’s the point.

The really funny part is he was.

Are you attributing the 14 points the Eagles scored in the 4th against the Packers to Hurts or Wentz? Because the Eagles with Wentz that game only scored 3 points.

I’m attributing 237 points in the 11 games Wentz started, and 81 points in the 4 games Hurts started.  You can chop up the Packers game where they both played however you like, but Reagor scoring 6 points on a 73-yard PR is a ST score and didn’t have anything to do with either QB.

There are quite a few people trying to push a narrative that the Eagles offense was jump-started with Hurts as QB.  That simply wasn’t the case — but Howie may in fact agree with you if he chooses to go to training camp with Hurts #1 on the depth chart.

Alshon and Malik don't give you anything until 6/1, so they are off the table. Restructuring Cox/Johnson, cutting Goodwin and trading Slay puts them around -20 according to Spotrac. Restructure Hargrave gives you $6, Barnett gives you probably $7 and if they do Brooks that's another $7M and gets them to about the break even point.

It's a mess. And trading Wentz really complicates things when it comes to the cap. Not saying they should have kept him, just that trading him makes getting under all the more difficult.

And you are missing my point... its not about bashing Hurts... A QB wanting out of a bad situation is normal.   QBs aren't like RBs, where they get used in a rotation, or WRs, or DEs, etc.   There's one QB on the field... and unless the HC is a moron, only one is used during a game, not a rotation.

Wentz wanting out isn’t the issue. Him cratering in part because the Eagles used a second-round pick on Hurts is a problem. The Eagles obviously share blame in that, but Wentz certainly didn’t show mental toughness.

Are you trying to tell me QB’s don’t like lining up out wide for no reason?
