From Matt miller’s mock draft

6. Philadelphia Eagles — QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State

If you aren’t sure your guy at quarterback is theguy, you better make a move to improve the position. The new Eagles’ head coaching staff is not tied to Jalen Hurts and general manager Howie Roseman is tied to no one, it seems. This wouldn’t be my pick—I’d give Hurts a year to prove himself and add DeVonta Smith (WR, Alabama), but this pick has a ton of buzz right now.

Lance will be the QB on the board at #6, but I think it’s unlikely the Eagles take him.  While I think he’s a much better prospect than Hurts, now is not the time to select the franchise QB.  Then again, if the Eagles were to trade back to #9 and Lance is still on the board?  Anything is possible.

If I had to handicap the Eagles first round pick right now, I’d say Chase, then Devonta Smith, then a dead heat between Pitts/Surtain Jr.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith goes a lot later than people are expecting. It's hard to justify a top 10 pick on a WR that's probably under 170 lbs.

Wentz wanting out isn’t the issue. Him cratering in part because the Eagles used a second-round pick on Hurts is a problem. The Eagles obviously share blame in that, but Wentz certainly didn’t show mental toughness.

Eagles FO did him wrong no doubt but I got to say Wentz wasn’t tough enough for this city. Some stories have him getting hurt from the Foles statue being place outside the link.

After Foles leaving and the Eagles drafting Hurts in the 2nd round he wasn’t the same QB. He seemed like a changed guy. Sure he said all the right words but he wasn’t the same.
Maybe Indy is a perfect place where he can play without the pressure from fans and a backup QB.

Easy for Hurts to surpass Wentz, just win one playoff game in 5 years.

Likely neither Hurts nor Wentz will ever win a playoff game for this team.

Or Trey Lance or whoever.

I realize that none of this is Sirianni's fault.  But the optics are interesting.

The head coach of the team is supposed to be the emperor, the captain of the ship.  Look at all these moves reshaping the foundations of the team from underneath him.  And yet he's silent (not that I really expect him to say anything or have any idea what he should say).

It just creates the impression that this new HC is once again a puppet, almost feels like Jim Carey in that stupid movie "Fun with Dick and Jane."  He gets a promotion just to be the PR fall guy for a company that is going under.

He's got to be thinking "what the heck did I get myself into????????"

Ok, that's fine. But like I just said, why would a player give negative quotes anonymously about a teammate? They know that their actions are going to create drama and hurt the team. Someone would only do that if they personally have an agenda against the team and/or the player. Given that fact, and it is a fact, why should I give credence to their accusations?

I could be wrong but didnt Malcolm Jenkins say some things about Wentz recently.  Not necessarily bashing him but kinda implying that he gets coddled a little?  Maybe some of these "anonymous sources or players" said similiar things.  Maybe not trying to bash him but just stating why things are off with him and the media just runs with it and makes it look worse.

Is Ertz gone yet? I’m waiting.

I forgot this play. Pretty impressive.

Who's more likely to see success with their position change? Avery at LB or JJAW at H-Back. Personally, I think JJAW might contribute nicely in that role.

The Indy defense had taller DL, all 6'3 or taller, Avery is 6'0, Graham 6'1, the others 6'3 or taller. So who was the DE most likely to move to LB?

We already had a coach announced for a day and bail a day later. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the overall feeling is they were told one thing and something changed.

I'd like to see what JJAW can do at TE.  They brought in Hakeem Butler for that role but I think JJAW could have success there.

And just from the eye test, it seems like he could easily add 15+ lbs.

I doubt that any of these moves came as a shock to Sirianni. I hate the organizational structure of this team, but there's no chance he took this job expecting Wentz to be his QB only to be blindsided with them trading him. He knew all along whether in the interview process or the post-hire meeting that this was the plan all along. The same goes for the DeSean and impending Alshon release as well. This is a rebuild and he knew it coming in.

He got himself into a few more millions

Gannon also coached under Zimmer, who loves tall, long defensive ends.

I seriously doubt it. Sirianni was hired on January 21st.

Stories about a potential trade popped up soon after.

It's hard to imagine Sirianni not asking about the status of Wentz, whether they were planning to move him, etc.

The media assumption was he was hired to "fix" Wentz, but that was sheer speculation. Given Sirianni hired a QB coach with close ties to Hurts on January 27th, seems the decision to trade Wentz may have been made when Sirianni was hired.

Burton is 6'2 225, same as JJAW. So for that role, he doesn't have to bulk up much. And JJAW is a willing blocker, so it would be more about leverage and technique, than getting a WR to accept the responsibilities of the role

They have JJAW, Wilson, Butler and Jackson as H-back candidates.

Look for a late round pick/priority UDFA as a conventional TE candidate, some guy who's 6'6 260 with good hands and routes who runs a 4.9 40. Lewis and Celek did alright with that kind of speed, if you block well, the defense has a tendency to forget about you in the pass game, and these guys sneak out for underneath throws.

Burton is 238.

Pretty much, he likely already knew Wentz wasn’t coming back, plus maybe they promised him a QB in the first round just like they got for Doug.  I keep seeing that this isn’t the right time to draft a QB, but was it the right time when Doug was made coach?  If Howie likes a QB in this draft and if he’s not sold on Hurts, they’ll likely draft one early.
