Hurts played a handful of games ,way too early to quit on him , everyone knew he would take time to develop.

They just used a 2nd rd pick on him , if they go QB early again this year , they are rudderless.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I mean the sixth pick isn't a bad spot to grab a QB.

These QBs are not much to brag about. If Hurts was in this class hed prob be in the top 10 with them. Plus the fact is one QB does us no good. you start giving up picks to get one then all you have is a shinny new QB and nothing else. Good way to take that QB and turn him into a failure quick. QB controversy yet again, rumors of a wasted 2nd round pick the year before. the list goes on and on for why it makes no sense to take a QB. ONLY way it works is if Hurts is traded as well and I just dont see that happening.

BTW Im not a Hurts guy, I am a Carson guy, but going with Hurts just makes sense right now.

Just going with Hurts isnt the solution.

They will draft a quarterback or sign one that’s cheap somewhere along the way. It’s not gonna just be hurts but if they don’t take a quarterback in the first round I don’t think they take one until the middle rounds or late rounds that they feel is a developmental guy. They’re in a rebuild anyway. so to me the only reason why you would bring in a veteran quarterback is to help in that quarterback room as your backup in a rebuild likely isn’t saving your season. So why spend significant money on a good one when you have little cap space to begin with?

I am not high on hurts and I’m not low on him. However I think people on this blog are a lot lower on him than what the Eagles think about him

I Howied the draft

Goodwin had some serious underlying health issues, from what I recall.  I don't think the Eagles would hold that against him.  If he's not back, it would be for reasons not related to him "opting out", imo.

My post implied the wrong thing.  I didn't mean they would cut him because he opted out.  I meant that because of his large salary cap number this season, then he's as good as gone and will have never played a single down for the Eagles.

I think his cap number is pretty cheap. Since he opted out I think he still gets his contract number from the 2020 season. I believe that was the rule for anyone opting out.

I don't think I'm fully buying the Zack Wilson to the Jets noise just yet. First off, its February, and its way too much noise this early on. There's even "reports" being thrown out there that some NFL teams have Wilson on their board over Lawrence. Spare me. I think what you are hearing and seeing is Douglas trying to stir up the market and entice one of the Falcons, Eagles, Panthers to move up a few spots.

You might be right.  I didn't think about that.  For some reason, I thought the Eagles saved around $5 mil this season by releasing him.

Contract implications when opted out

The Voluntary Opt-Out

The voluntary opt-out applies to any player. Players who opt-out under this category will receive a $150,000 advance against their 2020 base salary, and their contract will toll (freeze).

Once the contract resumes in 2021, the player will only be eligible to collect their base salary and any performance escalators; they will not be able to receive any roster bonuses paid out in 2020. In addition, he will not be credited with an accrued or credited season toward free agency and certain benefits if he opts out this year.

They touched on this on one of the Inside the Birds pods a week or so ago. As far as they understand the situation, Goodwin agreed in principal to a restructure but before they made it official he opted out. So this is why all the websites have him at $4.8M. So that would be the current contract that is tolling over, and he would need to sign and make the restructure official if its still on the table.

Definitely could see that. Back in January I thought there was a good chance they would go with Sam Darnold because of rumors about Kyle Shanahan and Lafeur being super interested in Sam Darnold if the Jets were willing to trade him before saleh took the job. Frankly I think there’s only two options for the Jets with that pick and it’s take Zack Wilson/fields or trade back and stock pile picks. I don’t see them making a selection there unless it’s a quarterback. I would be floored if they went another position but quarterback. Because I think the value of what you get in a trade if you aren’t taking a QB is going to be too good to pass up

Yup. I could see them accumulating even more picks, moving to the mid first and hoping for something like Sewell/Slater to beef up their lines.

The NFL draft is more than 2 months away. We'll have a lot more information by then. Draft boards aren't set.

At the same time, there are hints. Look at DJ's mock draft from this time last year. So while the picks are off, players tend to be in the same range. So we're likely picking someone who is in the current top 10-12 in mock drafts.

I think there’s a point where the Jets don’t wanna move past in terms of where they’re going to pick. I think they would be totally fine moving back to four, six or eight. You’re still in a position where a good player is going to fall to you. There’s a chance at four they can still get Sewell. at six there’s a chance they could still get Chase. At eight there’s a chance they could still get Smith. I think they don’t wanna move too far back. Like the niners at 12 I’m not so sure they want to be picking at 12. they would prefer to still be picking in the top 8. I kind of put it like when the Eagles had to go up and get wentz. I don’t think the Browns wanted to be picking all the way back at 13 unless they were severely overpaid. Which is what happened with the Browns because they did that trade and then traded back again so they got a ton of draft picks doing that. Not sure the Niners are going to be able to give them the amount of pics it would cost to move from 13 to 2

More likely he was informed at the interview process that there would be necessary cuts and such due to the cap situation.   All coaches under contract would have interviewed with him and Howie so they had a good idea of what issues might exist with Wentz.  Or it may be that the Eagles recognize that the sixth pick is QB territory and may be willing to draft a Sirianni choice QB.  If Howie is indeed Mr. Consensus, I suspect that to some degree Sirianni is involved in the decision making process.  You don’t come to a team that is over the cap blind to that situation.

Howie Mr. Consensus, that’s a new one

Ugh why would we take Justin Jefferson? He's slot only.

John's Roast pork hands down.

I understand that John’s doesn’t ruin their roast pork with a broccoli rabe.  Killing the flavor of a good roast pork with broccoli is criminal. (I don’t care how much garlic you use, the broccoli bitterness is still there.). HW was right.

My take is the Jets will be all in for Watson and the #2 pick is a big part of that deal. I know Carolina and Denver and others will also bid, but none of them can offer the choice of any non-Lawrence qb.

If they don’t get Watson, I highly doubt the Jets trade the pick, and IMO it will be a 99% chance they take a QB.

Miami still makes the most sense IMO. They have the picks + Watson will want to go there. That's also good for us, because it should make the Texans want to go QB as it's unlikely they'd like Tua/Darnold.

The only issue with your scenario is is that Deshaun Watson has a no trade clause. So if he knows there’s an offer from Carolina and he wants to go to Carolina over the Jets he can say I don’t wanna be traded to the Jets. Will he do that? I don’t know. But I can’t rule that factor out. So really the Texans have backed themselves into a corner because he has control of where he wants to go because of that NTC

Why would that be unlikely? If they put them in the trade and they wanted them they might want to give them a year before going after another quarterback. Tua was just drafted in the top five last year so maybe they like Tua and the package of picks they get back so they don’t go quarterback

I said this about a month ago and i still believe it that some draft analysts leading up to the draft is going to compare him to mahomes.  I firmly believe that’ll happen due to his physical tools he possesses. (Let me re-iterate I do not think that’s a good comparison!)

i like Lance. If you asked me which of the 3 QBs after Lawrence has the highest ceiling i think it’s Lance.  he’s raw and you have a ton to work with. However I’d also argue he has the lowest floor of the 3. I think his ceiling and floor is similar to what josh allen was coming out in that draft. I loved Allen but out of the four QBs that year imo he had the highest ceiling but the lowest floor and potential bust (Rosen actually is the biggest bust but i thought he be a bust anyway based off what some Arizona coaches told me). If he (Allen) got his accuracy to be competent (along with improving going through progressions) he’d be a great player cause of his physical tools. That’s why you saw the leap you did this year. There’s star potential for Lance cause of those physical tools but the floor is huge bust potential cause i think stepping up to another level is tough, has some accuracy concerns and like most young QBs learning to be better with progressions.

Lance is a guy that you have sit on the bench for two years while you teach him how to play QB.  If he sees the field before then, he's going to make some plays with his legs, but he's not a QB yet.
