The obvious candidates are big WRs and athletic QBs. Greg Ward? Same way they take DL and try to turn them into OL. You have 90 roster spots going into camp, why wouldn't you use a few on athletic projects rather than marginal prospects? Jackson ran a 4.59 at 6'7 249, 34" vertical, and as a QB understands routes and should have good hands. The reason you see these guys try to make this transition in their 2nd or 3rd year is that many don't want to give up the dream of playing QB until it's obvious they have no shot. It’s a lottery ticket on a 90-man roster. There’s no reason for anyone to complain about this move.

I've been railing against Howie's management of the cap and trades, so I don't believe he's necessarily the best option to handle those things... and he's always seemed to increase his influence in regards to all moves, so I'd feel better with him just cut out entirely. Cap issues... so we can end up with tons of dead money on the cap in future years for players who aren't producing anymore? Trades... so we can add another Golden Tate or Gerard Avery? No thanks. I just want a real GM, and a real HC. Maybe that's too much to ask for. situational QB? 🤦♂️ I think Howie should be fired now and basically you have a new GM that gets a year to judge Pederson. The team needs a new leader on the personnel side and a coherent draft philosophy that is just not a reactive hodge podge of decisions. I am concerned we are going to waste 3 top 100 picks which should be the foundation of young talent for the team. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

And givne the cap situation, they have to hope to hit on one. However, the reactive nature of this organization is a problem... no speed at WR in 2019, add only speed to the roster in 2020 draft. Bypass players who know how to play their respective positions for prospects that are extremely raw and are less likely to ever achieve that potential. This coming on the heels of prioritizing production at the expense of potential the year before. Just a pendulum swinging back and forth with no identity to adhere to or culture to build towards. I like how you mention Greg Ward. He's the poster child of mediocrity at WR, and inept at PR, with limited athleticism for the WR position. Hardly a strong endorsement. At least this kid looks like a plus athlete for the TE position.

Kinda surprised they are giving up on the QB project already. He has speed, and a very good arm. Figured he would have more of a chance to develop. I guess he will replace Ertz instead.

Does Doug move to more of a CEO type and oversees the whole team? Does he want more say on defense? If he wants to keep the DC a HC of the defense position, would he give that to an inexperienced a first-time DC? If not, does that mean we need a veteran DC like Phillips, Bradley, Lewis, etc? If the Eagles go outside for a DC it would almost certainly be an experienced one in the fashion of Schwartz; I don’t think Doug has any interest in the defensive side of the ball. If not for the spectre of Howie and the evidence(?) that he puts his fingerprints on who is active, inactive on game days, etc. — I could be convinced to get behind a Love Smith as DC and a Darrell Bevell as OC type of structure, with Doug strictly overseeing it as the HC. I don’t think you’re going to get those guys here in the current culture, though.

January 7, 20214 yr The right HC would want to come in now and remake the roster from day 1, not pick up other people's messes on day 365 and wait another year. Esp if Wentz is traded and you had no choice. You want to be at ground zero, not on the other side of the world, so to speak. The only fly in in the ointment would be Howard in the FO - it's a shame that an old EMBer who was excellent on cap stuff is clearly not being able to shine there. Always beware of the lifer in any company. They are there for a reason.

He also has to have ties to the Eagles because signing someone from completely outside the organization is scary, so lets sign LaRoy Reynolds to a 3 year deal that has 2 dummy years on the end. Next, lets address the position that desperately needs help, CB. First, let's eliminate anyone over 5'11''. He also has to be an ex Cowboy. So let's pencil in Jourdan Lewis as our starting CB across from Slay. We are going to move on from the past at RB, so goodbye Corey Clement, hello LeSean McCoy. At QB, no matter what happens, we have to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick so the fans have someone new to rally behind for whoever is the starter that loses the first game. At this point, we are going to just check in with Jason Peters to see how his rehab is going/is he keeping up in shape. Time to address the elephant in the room. DT. Ndamukong Suh makes a lot of sense as your third DT so lets sign him to a 3 year $36M dollar deal, with 4 dummy years at the end. We ran out of money for WR. On to the draft!

Bigger sticking point I would’ve brought in guys from other practice squads in general. Seen what they looked like for a week instead of heading into a game with not even enough guys active. Berman talked about this on their podcast. There was no reason not to try poaching some guys on other practice squads you liked and going into a game knowing you weren’t fielding a full roster and could maneuver the IR to your advantage.

The guys you convert are the ones with the skills for the new position. WR speed and agility, TE speed, size and hands (you don't ask QBs and WRs to become great blockers), OL you look at DL with size and athleticism who lack explosion and/or aggression but have high IQ. And Ward is just fine, he's a slot WR, he gets open on 3rd down, you're not going to have 53 above average starters on any roster, you need role players. And when you can turn UDFAs into role players, you've improved your team at no cost.

I posted about this prior to the game. They had a chance, with all of their injuries, to bring in at least 5-7 guys off of other teams PS. Even if for one game it then gives you priority to sign them for next year too. They could have had their PS plus 7 extra young guys. Then to learn they played the game without a full roster. What in the world are they even thinking? I mean we are just fans bouncing ideas around. You would think a billionaire owner, 20 year vet at GM and SB winning coach could have the wherewithal to get creative and take advantage of this sort of thing.
