If you draft a LT high, then you really have to trade one of Dillard and Mailata don't you?  Unless you think Dillard can be a backup RT, and that is no sure thing. With Jack Driscoll and Johnson too, there are a lot of bodies at Tackle already.

I'm not saying they won't do it,  but IOL could be in play more than Tackle.  Especially as we know Kelce won't play forever.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

So I missed that the Eagles are moving Avery to linebacker?

Caplan said he believes you can only designate two cuts as post-June 1. I didn’t know that was a thing.

Drafting a LT high cements Dillard as a bust.

I don't see him getting anything more than a 2nd.  Wouldn't make sense for the Eagles to trade him after just trading Wentz.  They'll want to self correct a little.  I don't see another NFL team setting their sights on Jalen Hurts as their long term answer at QB.  Only the Eagles are dumb enough to think that.  I hope he works his butt off to prove me wrong and he wins a lot of games.  But for what we know now, other franchises aren't going to want to rebuild with him.

I agree.  Hurts didn't show anything last year to change his 3rd or later draft grade.  I can't see a trade for him for anything close to a 2nd. He wasn't worth that last year either.

Yes. And, if they do, it again cements that Howie is a failure at drafting on a epic level.

Heading there, not there yet.

It does, but I am not sure that they know if he is or not, as he has played so little in games.

I am curious what we could get from Jalen Hurts in a trade, should we want to use the 6th overall pick on a QB. Hurts should enough that he has trade value. He's already a good backup QB and competent spot-starter. If a team with a shaky QB situation OR an aging QB (Pittsburgh, Chicago, Carolina, SF, NE) doesn't have a QB solution by April, he might be able to fetch a 2nd/3rd back.

I’ve been saying for weeks that if I were a team like the Ravens or Bills I’d trade a 3rd for him. Hurts would be an ideal backup for either team. He’s the guy you want on your team to come in for 3 weeks and go 2-1. No team is going to want him as their long term solution but he’s a great backup. IMO, that’s worth a 3rd round pick for a team competing for a title.

This twitter thread would be worthwhile for se here.

IMO, that's precisely why you don't draft a LT high.  I'm a firm believer of Mailata's potential and think he's the franchise LT for the next decade +.  I also think he could dominate at RT once Lane is gone.  I think Driscoll can be a great swing tackle.  Dillard is the wildcard.  If he can't learn RT then you let him be backup LT until Lane is eventually traded and move Mailata to RT.

After trading Wentz, I highly doubt they would give up on Dillard now.  You already invested a 1st, 4th and 6th to draft Dillard.  They would be LUCKY to get a 3rd for him.  If that were to happen then the Eagles would have traded their 2019 and 2016 first round picks for pennies.

IF they were to trade Dillard, that means they would have thrown away 3 first round picks since 2016 (2 from trading up for Carson), plus a 2nd, 3rd, 2 4ths and 2 6th round picks.

Then you consider the fact that they might trade or let Barnett walk and you're looking at 4 1st round picks since 2016 down the drain.

Someone tell me again why Howie is still here.

Because Howie has balls, and will do things other GM's would not.

That's true.  He certainly does what other GMs won't....yet other GMs thank him for that (and then laugh at him).

Agree on Mailata.  There is enough there that on a team with such a bare roster on D in particilar, taking a LT won't make them materially better - especially with Seumalo and Brooks at Guard already (and Brooks having guaranteed money next season).  It's more mess than needs unpicking.  Would they do it?  Of course, this is the Eagles we are talking about.

By this time, there is a mindset where this our bottom out moment, so getting rid of Dillard is no issue if you can get something usable back for him that can utilised in an area of need.

All in, it would be a strange use of organisational time and resources.

His podcast on this subject is really interesting.  Suffice to say, his use of "character assasination" says alot and he doesn't let CW off the hook either.  He's a straight shooter.

Agree on the straight shooter part.

Time to stop comparing Hurts to 2020 Wentz and start comparing him to a respectable starting NFL qb.

He fares well in one comp, not so much in the other.

Yea it’s always been the rule for cuts before June 1. That’s how I know that Kelce rumor is bogus.

Nothing in that twitter thread compares him to 2020 Wentz or any year from Wentz.

It does compare him though to the likes of Josh Allen, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson.

Avery to LB screams Howie pulling the strings because he's trying to save face on a crap trade.  That's why I think they are going to give Hurts every chance to be the starter for the foreseeable future.  I would be stunned if they went QB in the 1st round.  Not because it's not the right idea....But because it flies in the face of Lowie's personality and doesn't align with their warped logic.

Dillard and JJaw are going to get the same treatment, IMO.

Pretty impressive that the Wentz trade made both the Eagles & Colts worse in projections.

2 minutes ago, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Yep.  I read JJAW to h-back somewhere.

This is why they hired Siriani and not someone who was higher on their list.  Because they want to dictate the 53 to him.

If Howie being right dictates the roster, we are screwed...and hopefully, he is, too.
