A 4-3 LB top 10?  The onus is on you to argue the value there.  This isn’t 1990.

Oh the days of a stacked defense. Don't let me call marty mcfly. I have connections.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

A few things you look from college to the NFL in QB’s is the talent they played with, played against, arm strength, and how they handled pressure and the pocket collapsing.
Jake Fromm, the old USC contingent of Sanchise, Barkley and Leinart plus several recent Alabama QB’s are weak armed QB’s who were never going to be great in the NFL because of their arm. Sanchez not as weak as the others TBF.  Look at Kyle Trask, big kid with no arm, his arm is the reason he’ll go late, and shouldn’t go before the early 3rd round.

The other issues for Alabama QB’s are their offensive lines which are typically really good so good that judging how their QB’s will handle NFL defenses is really difficult, plus their QB’s are throwing to NFL quality receivers in open spaces.   They do play against other SEC teams but they usually aren’t on Alabama’s level.
BYU, ND, TT,  NC, teams that  play weaker competition, but they also play with weaker talent themselves, those are the guys who should handle pressure better, but reading NFL defenses, isn’t typically in their wheel house either.

Good point about college QBs who play on 'stacked' teams and put up great stats in college, but then don't convert well to the NFL.  How many Bama and Ohio St. QBs are currently quality QBs in the NFL?  USC when they were the big dogs back in the day and how many of their QBs did well in the NFL?  Seems Carson Palmer, though I don't think they dominated as much when he was there.  Even OU as I think most people would only consider Mayfield a middle of the road starter at best and Murray, as pointed out multiple times by AZ resident e-a-g-l-e-s eagles, basically struggled the 2nd half of the season.  I wouldn't call him a top end quality starting NFL QB.

I was thinking about this and if I was a scout/GM I'd first look at QBs in the best conferences who play on the 2nd tier or lower teams of that conference.  They don't have the talent around them that the top tier teams do, but they have to play against them.  So if they play decent/well individually vs 'better' competition IMO that speaks more to their potential than the QB on the 'better' team who is also playing well vs the 'lesser' team.  Mahomes as an example (Texas Tech).  Other examples:  Wilson (NC State and Wisconsin), Rodgers (Cal), Brees (Purdue), Rivers (NC State) and Ryan (BC).  Go back a bit further and you could also include Peyton (Tennessee, never really a powerhouse, always lost to FLA so 2nd tier) and Elway (Stanford).

Brady is a curious example as he had to work his way up the depth chart and beat out Henson his junior year to win the starting job then the next season had to platoon with Henson the first 7 games before finally being handed the starting job.  So that's molding mental toughness and competitiveness which has probably helped him in his NFL career.

Of course this isn't an exact science or anything close to it as mostly it comes down to the individual and you have to look at pretty much all the players.  But that's where I'd start my search and branch out from there.  These QBs who have to deal with more adversity and not always winning nor having the best talent/coaching around them and play rather well tend to trend as better NFL QBs than the ones on the powerhouse teams.

You're literally describing 2018-19 Carson Wentz

Ok. For the purpose of this discussion, who cares?

Eagles don’t win the Super Bowl without Alshon. He was a beast in the first half and drew double coverage the rest of the game.

So to all of you about to $hit on him... go eat a bag of dix

I will trust them, and what I have seen watching him play over some newb TATE'r.

I've been around here for years. What are you talking about. You look at chazz at a glance and know he has no strength or aggression. Now if you wanna recreate dewayne wade in an eagles uniform, just say that. But stop pissing on our leg. It's cold out here and that shhhh will freeze.

Yep, it was arguably the best game of his career (other than the tipped ball that led to the Foles INT). He was borderline unstoppable. That still doesn't change the fact that he went to the media and anonymously bashed his QB and created unnecessary drama.

Thanks for LII, Alshon.

For those of you who love speed.

Well, one might argue that has aged better now.  It seems to be all the rage to do that now.

In my dream draft, they pick up a 1 to move into the teens and get Waddle.

Interesting. Yeah, I posted yesterday about Mac. Didn't exactly get a lot of "traction." 😀 Get the sense that me and DeVonta might be his only fans...

No one here should want a 'good" starter. A good starter is Teddy Bridgewater IMO. Derek Carr, Alex Smith. Kurt Cousins.

NO THANKS

***EDIT*** Could Hurts be a poor mans Alex Smith. Maybe. I can see that. But I still dont want it

Yes you do. But you should not be satisfied with it. Anyway, that wasn't/isn't the conversation.

Funny Haven't you been bashing Wentz all year saying how bad he is and he needs to go. So where is your love for Wentz since he was amazing in 2017 and without him we dont get to the SB? Last I checked Alshon has sucked since that SB game. At least Wentz had a nice 2019 season.

With that you can eat my dix :) Hope your hungry, its beefy.

At least TO had the balls to put his name behind his comments.

You realize Carson isn't on the team anymore? Maybe you should create your own thread were you can argue with the Carson Wentz supporters.  It seems like you want that argument but I have never seen you effectively engage in the discussion in this thread.

Don't waste your time.

- Wentz and Doug went multiple weeks not talking to each other

- Wentz's issues with Doug went beyond just the drafting of Hurts

- Only the Colts wanted Wentz, no other team even came close to making an offer

I'm sure some will disregard this as fake news, but I'll say that if this is true, I'm glad we got rid of both of them. Also, we are lucky as F the Colts got suckered into giving up a likely 1st and a 3rd as there was no real market for Wentz at all, they could have had him for a lot less. My only regret is that we didn't get a new GM and start over completely.

Hurts has been working out with him.

We won't be saying that when the Colts are in the playoffs and we are last in the NFCE.

He's not just fast, he's super shifty too.  I like him if they trade down.  I like him better than Smith for sure.

March 23 is the Bama Pro Day.  Will be so interesting to see how Smith, Harris, Waddle among others measure in and test.

Here we go again with the "speed" factor. Like I said last year. I don;t care about someones speed. Do they have great hands and are they a good route runner? Thats all I care about because once these speed guys hit the NFL the corners are just as fast. Have to beable to win with your route tree and great hands.

I didn't realize that the Eagles won't release Jeffrey/Jackson until the league year starts. That means they need to create 43M in cap space, without using Jeffrey/Jackson to do so.

That makes the math really complicated, unless we extend Barnett, restructure Graham and Hargrave, etc.

Isn't this old news? It was reported weeks back this was happening day 1 of the new league year slated as one of two June 1st cuts along with Malik

We knew this was coming the beginning of last season. No surprise.

I always viewed Waddle as a better prospect than Henry Ruggs, but pictured him to the Eagles at the 17-22 range.  He’s actually the Desean ‘heir apparent’ in his skill set.  He took quite a few short slants to the end zone in his time at Alabama and, yes, I believe he’s also from the Houston area as Hurts is.

I would take the gamble he’s still on the board at #12 like Ruggs was and trade back.
