I never said I want it. All Doug cares about is play calling. He doesn’t care about ST or D. So demote him to OC. Bring in someone that will actually care about the team as HC. It wouldn’t fix everything but I’d bet it would be better than Doug playing HC/OC.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I wonder if Doug is smart enough to know his only chance of surviving past the next 1-2 years is to surround himself with highly qualified and respected OC and DC who can give this team a chance to compete.

Elevating Press Taylor or bringing in some inexperienced intern and calling them the OC will mean an inevitable end

This is obvious I know, but Doug doesn't think he is the problem, doesn't think his play is the problem, he thinks he is the solution.  I will happily admit being wrong, but Doug believes he is the qualified and experienced OC so it would be redundant to bring one on board.

If the Texans do trade deshaun watson, the Jets actually make a ton of sense in terms of draft capital the Texans would get back. Could get no. 2 overall, Seattle’s first rounder in 2021 and likely another future first as the Jets have 2 first rounders in 2022. Plus the Jets could then trade Sam darnold and get some draft picks to make up for dealing away the amount of picks. I am guessing watson would hate being traded to the Jets.

Most of you know that I've been hunting for a long time so I will use this as a example. Even though I've been hunting for 43 years if I go through a season with lots of opportunities I tend to stay calmer and make better well timed shots. When I get very few opportunities or the deer are "spooky" I tend to rush my shot to try and take advantage of whatever opportunities I get.

Could the same be true of Carson? He's pushing because there are so few of times when the o-line and the receivers are not good enough that when he gets a chance he's rushing it?

Nice analogy. Been decades since I hunted geese in the rice paddies.  My philosophy was bead on the lead goose in a V choosing a line of the V, then aim for that trajectory of where the lead goose would be.  On a good day, I would hit the third or fourth goose in the line chosen. My dad, he shot the lead goose.  I think Carson is mostly a second goose guy as to accuracy with some first goose leads.  This year, he was me.  I think Hurts is a first goose or run guy. He needs to be willing to shift focus to other line too.

Give up 3 first round picks for the privilege of paying Watson $39M per season for 4 years, starting in 2022?  Yuck.

They need to build a roster first, then (and hopefully simultaneously) develop a QB on a rookie deal before backing up a Brinks truck for anybody.

I think 2021 is it for Doug.  He has to have the team winning otherwise he's gone.  Problem is who that is highly qualified will want to be an OC under him?

As far as him realizing that......i doubt it.

Greend where do you do your hunting? You're in west PA if I remember correctly? I'm a backcountry hiker/camper, and while I won't be crossing the border this year, I've been intrigued in the past by the Allegheny National Forest. You ever head in there?

Hike the Appalachian Trail next time you cross into here.  Lots of wonderful trails in PA and the eastern part of the country.  Next time I come up to your country, I want to hit your side of Glacier and the up to Lake Louise in Banff. The Canadien Rockies are so beautiful. My wife wants to head east to where the Thules were and watch calving and the northern lights. (Nova, RIP, wish I’d ventured up to meet you.)

Don't be surprised when Duce Staley is named as the new OC, and Matt Burke is named as the new DC.

Latter maybe.  Former should be happy to have a job.

Then unless Duce is secretly a great offensive minded coach, 2021 will be Doug's last year.

If that's the case then he's screwed IMO and why wait?

That schedule looks brutal IMO

Just fire him now and get in on the hiring process before you lose out on one of the good ones

I'm not sure Watson would want to go to a team that is rebuilding.

He was smart enough to get a no trade clause in his contract

If they started out next year say 0-7 and just looked terrible, would Lurie pull the trigger mid season and fire Doug then or wait till the year is over?

I actually don’t think it would cost 3 just was making the point they could and the Texans would be smart to go to the Jets with the draft capital they have.

the Jets have the draft capital to do it. Would still have a first in 2022 even if they made it 3 firsts which i doubt it would be 3 firsts considering no. 2 overall pick. They have 4 firsts over the next 2 years. Still would have 2 picks even if they dealt away two. I believe they have multiple thirds this year and going to get a comp 3rd for Anderson this year. And next year i believe multiple thirds and 2 firsts. they could trade darnold also to gain some capital back. Like they could trade away two firsts and still have a lot of draft capital.

I’m doubting the Jets would hate having to pay watson that or any team. He’s a top 10 QB. They also have top 3 most cap room in the nfl.

The only place they can start is to look at the coordinators who were employed under the head coaches who have been let go, as they are also now looking for work.  Are any of these guys qualified?  Subject for debate:

Jay Gruden, Ben McAdoo, Darrell Bevell, Jim Bob Cooter, Adam Gase, Dirk Koetter

Some of those guys have decent resumes, at least.

That was smart on his part then. If I’m the Texans the Jets are the team with enough draft capital to make me want to consider dealing him.

Yeah why i said he would hate it at the end.

However the Jets are in a good place with draft capital and cap space. have the draft capital to still trade it and build around him (4 firsts over the next two years, 3 3rds and a comp third coming for Anderson). Add on trade darnold away to get capital back. They also i believe have the top 3 cap space as well. I extremely doubt he wants to go there. But if I’m the Texans I’d love to make a deal with the Jets if i could

Fun fact. You know who else besides Carson is 26-21 with the Eagles? Chip Kelly. That last season wrote Chip's epitaph, and he's still hated to this day. It wasn't even as bad as Wentz's.

The Texans really are the worst franchise if they lose Watson.

Chip wasn’t fired for on-field performance and wins/losses; he had two 10-win seasons in his 3 years.

Chip was fired because he was incapable of maintaining adult working relationships with adult players, wasn’t respectful to people at all levels of the organization, and wrote the Bill O’Brien manual of roster building.

If only they kept O’Brien they would’ve gotten a great package for watson....

If I’m the Texans I’d be asking for more than any three of these proposed deals. If I’m the Jets I’m content about any of those deals. Still have picks to build and cap space. And the first two i can deal away darnold to get draft picks back.

https://sports.yahoo.com/3-potential-trade-packages-jets-200152261.html

1. Jets send both 2021 first-round picks, 2021 fifth-round pick and 2022 third-round pick    (Still have 2 firsts in 2022, 2 3rds in 2021 and a comp 3)

2. Jets send No. 2 overall 2021 pick, 2021 second round pick, Seattle’s 2022 first-round pick, 2022 fourth-round pick  (still have a first in 2021 and 2022, 2 3rds in 2021 and a comp 3rd)

3. Jets send Sam Darnold, No. 2 overall 2021 pick and Seattle's 2022 first-round pick   (Still have a first in 2021 and their own first in 2022, 2 3rds in 2021 and a comp 3rd from Anderson)

Yup. Chip was fired solely because he was a giant **** to everyone in the organization, including the owner.
