So I've been reading along and see the flame wars (even among posters I would consider to be fair and objective, usually) about our QB situation and I'm going to try and use some stats and context and try to be objective.  For the record, I wasn't fond of the Hurts pick at the time and found it puzzling.  However, he's most likely our starting QB next season and we've got a new coaching staff so I'm willing to sit back and see how things unfold.

The argument has been made that he's a running QB first and not a polished passer.  He did run the ball quite a bit in college, probably more than you'd like to see from someone playing QB in the NFL.  Here are his pass attempts vs rushing attempts in his 4 year college career:

frosh:  382 pass, 191 run for 33.3% run

soph:  254 pass, 154 run for 37.7% run

junior:  70 pass, 36 run for 33.9% run

senior:  340 pass, 233 run for 40.6% run

Eagles:  148 pass, 63 run for 29.8% run

IMO it's going to take a couple seasons at least for him to transition into a quality starting NFL QB given these %s to get more used to being a pocket passer who can run if need be.  If he shows decent/good progress in 2021 then give him another season in 2022.  If he looks lost or just not capable then with (hopefully) two 1st Round picks in 2022 we can address the QB position again.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Thanks for the data mining

I will say that Im not as worried about his running as much as when and how he does it

If his eyes start to come off his reads early, thats a problem

If hes running for his life and, thus, taking some big/unexpected hits, thats a problem

I dont remember him taking a single bit hit last year.  Im more worried about him making the sophomore leap in terms of reading a defense and playing under control.  And oh yeah, he cant fumble it as much Wentz or this was all a big joke on the fans

I wouldn't say that too loud.  Now that Alshon is gone...get ready....there could be quite a bit more "leaked".

Funny Haven't you been bashing Wentz all year saying how bad he is and he needs to go. So where is your love for Wentz since he was amazing in 2017 and without him we dont get to the SB? Last I checked Alshon has sucked since that SB game. At least Wentz had a nice 2019 season.

With that you can eat my dix 🙂 Hope your hungry, its beefy.

What are you talking about? I said Wentz sucked all year which he has. However, I was fully onboard with them keeping him. So lick my taint you cheddardik

If he wants to trash an ex-teammate, while putting his name to the comments, then so be it. However, I'm willing to bet that he's not man enough to do that.

At this point it would be an irrelevant "who cares?”

The damage gets done when you’re undermining the team and the people who are trying to lead it.  After you and those folks have moved on it doesn’t matter any more.

I didn't realize that the Eagles won't release Jeffrey/Jackson until the league year starts. That means they need to create 43M in cap space, without using Jeffrey/Jackson to do so.

That makes the math really complicated, unless we extend Barnett, restructure Graham and Hargrave, etc.

It's because they are going to be Post June 1st cuts. They would only immediately help if they were cut and all their dead money hit into 2021. Its not that big of a deal anyway, it's not like the Eagles just have to get under the cap and they are fine. They still need money for vets/rookie class. When there salary comes off the books June 1st it will give a nice cushion to sign the rookies and have some leftover.

He was trashing the Bears before they let him go. Im sure he does not care. However Im sure the rest of the teams in the league will care and just might stay far away from him this off season. He might just be done in the NFL.

Wentz isn't part of the team anymore. The ones who would care are the ones who hate Wentz

When all is said and done, 1/4th to 1/3rd of our Cap will be just dead money, which is just insane. Poor Howie got really unlucky.

The NFL and PA agreed to a cap floor of $180M, but have they said whether the ceiling may be higher than that?

He banked on players who are old and get injured to not get injured again lol

Agree on your points and that's where we need to see improvement:  reading the D, playing under control and protecting the ball.

As a comparison, in Lamar Jackson's last 2 full seasons he has 777 pass attempts and 335 rushing attempts for a 30.1 run %.  Sure, during the regular season (when playing vs ishy teams) he puts up good stats and the team wins.  However, in the playoffs BTL is only 1-3 and Jackson has only 3 TDs passing with 5 INTs and 2 lost fumbles while also getting sacked 16 times and seeing his QB rating plummet from 102.6 regular season to 68.3 playoffs.  That kind of QB play is not sustainable for the playoffs vs the top teams.

IMO for Hurts to be a quality starting NFL QB who can lead his team during playoff time he's going to have to get his run% down to 10% or less.  I don't mind a QB draw if that what the D is giving you then take the free/easy yards or scrambling for yards when the play breaks down, but I want to see him be more reliant on his arm and reads than his legs on a consistent basis.  IMO that's going to take time since the stats I provided previously show otherwise.

No clue who this guy is , but

Team source just texted me that there are multiple NFL teams that don’t have Kyle Pitts as TE1 on their board. Those teams list him as a wideout

It could but I wouldn't expect it to be exponentially higher than that unless they come to some new agreement. I think I remember seeing someone hoping for $185M

I seen 183 million

Saw Campbell from Walterfootball say it too weeks ago. The teams that think he can run fast and play WR have him in the top 10. Other teams dont think so.

I have been saying the same. He could be a Mike Evans style player in the NFL. if I was to draft him, it would be to play outside with the option to move him around.

We won't be saying that when the Colts are in the playoffs and we are last in the NFCE.

Colts are already in the playoffs without Wentz.  I dont think its gonna be a big deal if Indy is in the playoffs.

Maybe I'm reaching but Wentz has to get them to an AFCCG or SB.  Pressure is on him a little.

- Wentz and Doug went multiple weeks not talking to each other

- Wentz's issues with Doug went beyond just the drafting of Hurts

- Only the Colts wanted Wentz, no other team even came close to making an offer

I'm sure some will disregard this as fake news, but I'll say that if this is true, I'm glad we got rid of both of them. Also, we are lucky as F the Colts got suckered into giving up a likely 1st and a 3rd as there was no real market for Wentz at all, they could have had him for a lot less. My only regret is that we didn't get a new GM and start over completely.

This is the story the Eagles want out there.

Not saying it’s true, totally fake, or in between.

They wanted it out there that the Bears were offering 2 firsts to manipulate the market.  Now they want it out there that they got something out of a non-existent market for a dysfunctional qb.

This is all what they want leaked, from the beginning.

You realize Carson isn't on the team anymore? Maybe you should create your own thread were you can argue with the Carson Wentz supporters.  It seems like you want that argument but I have never seen you effectively engage in the discussion in this thread.

I'm here to say I told you so to irrational Carson cultists who denied and downplayed his numerous issues, and gaslighted people who criticized him for the last year.

He's been gone for only a few days, and this is a highly relevant article that proves what I've said all along, that your boy is a stubborn mule who refused to listen to coaching.  When are you and your friends going to admit it?
