Wentz will have to wear a new # since Pittman wants to keep #11.

Any number except 7.  It's the worst jersey number for a QB.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I think he opts for 666.

I thought his contract prevented anything happening?

wouldnt surprised if you see one or two of them cut or traded before you see them restructured.

Those 4 players, here is the best case scenario of cut or trade.  Remember in all these scenarios, the guys below the top 51 cut off then move up and add to the cap.

Cox, 21.034 million dead, 2.065 million in savings

Graham, no go, you replace his 716K saved with a 780K contract.

Lane, no go, adds 11.5 million to his cap number in a trade, worse if cut.

Brooks, 12.25 million dead, 1.52 million in savings.

Nope, see above.

It is really the only option available.  They already restructured Malik Jackson and Alshon Jeffrey to make them post June 1 cuts. Those savings do not help the Eagles get under the cap to start the league year.

Then cutting / trading Ertz, Barnett and Goodwin, Eagles are still 26.2 million over the cap.

The only remaining players with a cap savings of over 1 million you could cut are

Cox, 21 million dead, 2 million saved, Maddox, 1.4 million saved.

I honestly have no idea how Howie can fix this without crippling future years.  He really has made a mess.

The horrible drafting, paradoxically, has made it possible to sweep this mess under the rug.  Goedert/Mailata/Sweat are names floating around, but we really have next to no internal talent to re-sign.  So for about 3 years we make no moves in FA.  If we had drafted multiple players that didn't suck, they'd all be walking and the cap would get more negative attention.  This cap situation will quietly wallow away with the rest of the team as the Johnson/Cox/Brooks contracts fade away over the next 3 seasons.

No clue who this guy is , but

Team source just texted me that there are multiple NFL teams that don’t have Kyle Pitts as TE1 on their board. Those teams list him as a wideout

Makes sense to me.  Been saying that for weeks.  He's Mike Evans.  If he runs a sub 4.6 I think a few more teams will do the same.  He's a weapon.

Goedert savings, 467K

Mailata savings, 70K savings

Sweat savings, 140K savings

When accounting for this offseason, don't forget that we have to draft a QB round 2 if we don't draft one with our top pick.

Hurts is the only QB currently on the roster and backup QB's cost $10m per year.  So it will be good value to find our backup in round 2.

That may be my favorite myth.

Only 20 QB's have a cap hit of 10 million or higher for 2021, and only another 10 have a cap hit over 5 million for 2021.

The 33rd and below QB's have a cap hit under 2 million.

First I've seen that.  Love the honesty.  Who is the reporter asking those awful questions?

QBs - I use QBR as a quick and dirty, QB rating double counts and isn't nearly as informative.

There a general correlation between QBR and winning, probably b/c it credits running plays and docks for turnovers. So it's more than throwing stats.

2020:  top 10 QBR, only Fitzpatrick (4-3) and Brees (9-3) didn't win 10+ games, 11-16, Stafford and Watson lost 10+ games, falloff came after Ryan at 16.

Note, Rivers at #19 (11-5), Big Ben at #22 (12-3), Goff #23 (9-6) - top three Rodgers, Mahomes and Allen > 80.0, 9 more > 70.0, 10 more > 60.0

2019:  Only Lamar Jackson > 80.0. Mahomes #2 and the rest well behind. Only 5 > 70.0, 6 more > 60.0 [Wentz 11th]

2018:  Only Mahomes > 80 and Brees just behind him, then a steep falloff. Trubisky 71.0 (11-3), 11 more > 60.0. [Wentz 12th]

2017:  Wentz 78.5 then Keenum (11-3) and Brady. 9 more > 60.0.

2020 seems to be an aberration, before then top QBs >70, solid QBs > 60. Not that when guys like Trubisky and Keenum had anomalous seasons, their teams won.

The three previous seasons, 12, 14 and 11 > 60.0.

He likely will kick the can and ruin future years to "fix" this mess

How many are on their first contract? And as you get to the end of those contracts the cost escalates rapidly even before you negotiate a new deal. This guys are generally unavailable (or unwanted).

Got it.  $10m is the going rate for a backup QB.

I dunno it was during the media night where everyone just roams around. The mic looks like it has NBC Colorado logo on it

Irrelevant.  It is 100% a myth that back up QB's have high salaries.  Who was the most valuable back up in the NFL last year ??  I say Andy Dalton.  4-5 as a starter.  3 million cap hit.

Here is the list.

Sudfeld is unstoppable, the going rate for unstoppable backup QB’s is $15M+

Its just this year and next and we'll have more or less a completely clean cap sheet.  You need to restructure some guys this year but then you'll have enough space next year to get rid of all of them if you want and finish ripping off the band-aid.

In that case, #comppicks

Isn't that some BS the Eagles fed us to make us think a rookie QB would be a cheaper back up option? But, yea, definitely a myth.

Oh it was BS fed to us alright, but it didn't come from the Eagles.  Well, that depends on Afan's not-yet clarified employment status with the Eagles.

Most backups are Sudfeld quality, if you're a playoff team, you invest in a backup if your QB isn't durable (Brees, Wentz) or take your chances with Mahomes or Rodgers.

If you're not a playoff team, why invest in a backup to lose games you'd lose with your starter?

So it makes more sense to bring in young QBs with longshot upsides, and hope to get lucky.

Would it be crazy to bring in a guy like Joe Flacco on a 1-year deal?  Being a UD fan, I've always been a supporter of his.

Doubt Flacco would be interested and it doesn't make sense.

If you're building an offense around Hurts, you want someone who can run the same offense.
