See my response to AFan.  No one should be stunned when 31 year old speed threats can't stay healthy.  That's not bad luck.  That's dumb choices.

Wallace broke his leg in week 2. That’s bad luck. It’s not like he has osteoporosis.

With DJax, yeah, you expect him to miss some time. You don’t expect him to effectively miss two full seasons.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

If we don't sign Malik and Hargrave, we have a bottom five defense, you want to rotate Hector and Williams with Cox?

If Howie doesn't back load contracts we have to let 2-3 starters walk by 2019 and make no additions.

Now, if the Eagles were prepared to spend two years reloading, say go 7-9 in 2019 and 2020, they could have avoided cap hell, but that requires admitting the 2017 team had a short window, and walking away from contention. And I'm sure Wentz would have been happy to have Dillard start at LT as a rookie.

Dude, you can't be serious.  If they don't sign Hargrave they can sign Robbie Anderson.  If they don't sign Malik they can upgrade at CB2.

And to be honest, one of things the Eagles are best at is getting the most out of their DT3 and DT4.  Hector, Hester, McGill, Ridgeway have all filled in just fine when needed.

Howie didn't draft horribly, the studies referred much earlier had him at 95% of expected value, that is, pretty much average. The problem was due to the Wentz trade, and a couple other "win now" deals, they were dead last in expected value of their picks from 2016-2020. Hopefully they can move Ertz and Slay and pick up some picks, and maybe get a comp pick this year. The next two years they're going to be in the top 5 in expected draft value, and they'll be focused on BPA and upside, so hopefully they'll be above average drafting as well.

I do want to see what Sirianni and company can do with some players on the roster, he helped turned Pascal into a starting WR, let's see what they can do with Fulgham and JJAW. Eagles have accumulated fast H-back candidates in Wilson, Butler and Jackson, can they turn one into a player. I know Stoutland can work with Herbig, Opeta, Juriga and Toth and turn garbage into gold. Sanders should be among the league leaders in receiving yards by a RB, don't know what happened last year but there's a real opportunity.  I'm less optimistic about Gannon and the current crop of DBs, I think they're gonna audition a lot of DBs in August. They have an inexperienced LB coach to work with a bunch of inexperienced but athletic LBs. Rocker's a good DL coach, but not a lot to work with in terms of kids with upside.

Wait, on the one hand you're whining about all the dead money from back loading, but you also contend they could have signed alternative players - well, which is it? Either they don't back load, in which case they can't sign any of these guys, or they back load and they're still in cap hell.

And no, Hector, Hester, McGill and Ridgeway (another injury bug player) couldn't replace Malik and Hargrave, they were #4 in the rotation guys at best.

Even that year we had a crazy amount of injuries. That we won despite of them has nothing to do with luck.

I call it luck.

Patrick Robinson went from almost being cut to a top nickel

Blount went from a locker room headcase to a locker room leader

Jay Ajayi gets traded for and becomes the perfect compliment piece

Jake Elliott nails a 60 yarder to beat the Giants as time expires

Nick Foles hit his hot streak at the right time

Nelson had his best season as an Eagle BY FAR

Balls bounced the right way when fumbles happened

I dont see it. Least not here anyways.

Wont play with a decent/good QB for at least 3 yeears and at that point we probably send him else where/dont sign him

We can't judge him too much based on playing with a completely ineffective Wentz.  It's very promising to see how his production took an immediate jump with Hurts.

6 games with Wentz throwing to him: 19 receptions (2.7 per game) for 222 yards (31.7 per game) for 11.7 YPR.

4 games with Hurts throwing to him: 12 receptions (3 per game) for 174 yards (43.5 per game) for 14.5 YPR.

I call it a well constructed, deep roster and most of all: heroic fighting spirit. :Eagle_smiley:

The point with the injuries is simple, with "average health," Eagles probably go 10-6 or 11-5 in 2018 and 2019, maybe get much deeper in the playoffs - in that case, Howie's "win now" gamble looks more reasonable. Even in 2020, if Dillard and Brooks and Ertz are healthy, the OL is stable even after Lane goes down, and maybe Wentz doesn't meltdown. So the Eagles win the division and maybe a playoff game. We'd be in the same situation this year, except picking at #19 instead of #6, but maybe Wentz doesn't force his way out of town.

Doesn't mean Howie couldn't have made some better choices, but it wouldn't look nearly as bad - a great four year run followed by a rebuild instead of two frustrating seasons followed by an implosion. The alternative was to reload after 2018, and go 7-9 for a couple years - but if they choose that route, maybe Wentz melts down in 2019 instead of 2020? If Howie doesn't extend Jeffrey and doesn't sign DeSean, and had rookie Dillard protecting his blind side, would Wentz have been a happy camper?

What's done is done, we're rebuilding, we won a Championship, if I told you this was the outcome in 2016, EVERYONE HERE WOULD HAVE SAID GO FOR IT.

Now that Doug and Carson is gone and as these other guys leave, I am sure there will be a lot of post mortem stories that come out about what happened behind the scenes.  What I want someone to really dive into is what was the root cause of the explosion in injuries the last 3 seasons.  I don't even count 2017, because even though there was some key players that went down, it wasn't the sheer numbers 2018-2020 was.  I know these writers will want to focus on the dramatic in fighting.  But I really want to know what caused the plague and if/what is being done to avoid it again.

This is the real story after the Wentz saga.

Maclin averaged like 850 yards and 6 TDs over his career while going down as soon as a defender got close to him and gator arming passes.

Again, low bar.

To be fair with Reagor, Doug tried to turn him into DeSean, and was making some weird play calls, Ward on WR screens? WTF?

Doug thought he was going to bring the KC offense to Philly. Or something like that.

I suspect Sirianni will get Reagor and Watkins a lot more touches in space, while developing Fulgham, JJAW and any other big WRs as targets over the middle of the field.

So your defense of Howie is that he drafted badly and had to give out contracts to aging vets? I love you man

I don't know how someone can watch Jalen Reagor and think he has no talent. Blows my mind. Not a nuanced receiver yet, wasn't quite as elusive as he might have been expected to be, but the guy has talent in spades.

Guy returns one of his 4 punt returns for a TD, they never use him there again, but he's got no talent according to a lot in here. It's strange man

When Reagor first played with Wentz wasn't he an NFL virgin?

Was Reagor not "nicked-up" when Wentz was at QB?

Should we not expect for Reagor to be better at the end of his first season than he was at the beginning?

It's far worse than that! Many in here are so negative that they are setting up a narrative of failure just to prove a point. The first time Reagor drops a ball, it will be; ITYS Reagor sucks...the first incompletion or non-designed run; ITYS Hurts sucks...it really is too bad some are so negative they actually are looking forward to failure....douglas704 was the ultimate anti-Eagle fan in here but now he has a lot of company

I take it as a rebuilding year and I am going to enjoy watching the growth of the younger players...yes they are going to make mistakes, and some won't work out but it is part of a process...there is talent to be developed

A real offseason might help too! 😄

It's been a pretty big emotional roller coaster since the Super Bowl. But I'm now in the acceptance phase, and agree, it'll be fun to watch the young kids develop. I'm actually intrigued by Reagor/Watkins/Hightower/Fulgham. They may in fact be crappy and not turn into anything. But each showed flashes of ability last year. Hopefully this new coaching staff can develop them further. It was glaringly obvious that Doug and his staff couldn't/wouldn't use them to their strengths, for some insane reason.

He looked "slow” returning that punt for a TD — according to more than one poster in here

He was clocked at over 20 mph on an 8 yard end around on one of his few chances...he is not slow...

Well said.  I feel the same way.  Excited for something new (younger players, new coaches/schemes, etc...) but with tempered expectations.  There is such a negative vibe with fans right now.  Not just here but if you turn on Philly sports radio it's even worse.  I understand the angst, but people are going scorched earth.  Personally, I'll enjoy the ride regardless.  You have to put away the jump to conclusion mats for a little and see how these young guys grow.

He had 1 bomb with Hurts. 55-60 yards? so 11 for 110. in 4 games. meh

So Mr. Roseman can't evaluate talent, but you can't even see that Hurts and Reagor are studs.. 😆

Not to mention a new coaching staff. I’m looking forward to a different defensive scheme and a more integrated passing game. Say what you like about Chip Kelly, he did some really interesting things in his time here.

I am very fired up. My only fear is that we end up drafting a QB in the first.

But in Hurts-Reagor-Sanders-Goedert-Mailata we got a core of very young studs, and there is hope the new coaches can get some improvement out of some more.

And that's just talking about the young players.. If the OL as a whole is top5 next year I wouldn't be surprised one bit.
