I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Pitts isn’t going to last to 10 let alone second round. I mean if we aren’t going to take him we can probably trade out to some contender that needs him and will pay.

The funny thing to me is people who want them to draft Pitts are basically chasing another Kelce or Gronk who were taken in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Sure, but if we redraft the 2020 draft...Claypool is a 1st rounder.

But, is he a top 10?   I don't think so.

Context: Washington Football Team, mentioned coming back to play QB, coming off major (implied) injury, etc.   It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to deduce that it was an Alex Smith interview.

I'm neither on the Pitts bandwagon, nor a hater.

As a card carrying (and potentially original) member of the anti-12 personnel faction, I'm STILL open to drafting Pitts at 6....and certainly open to drafting him after a trade-down.  I do really want to see that 40.

But there is a precedent here for hyper athletic TE's who don't become high end WR-like receivers in the NFL.  Evan Engram, Noah Fant...even Vernon Davis, who was a great TE...he wasn't a receiver you build an offense around.  OJ Howard had very similar hype as a massive matchup problem.

I'm not trying to argue that Pitts is those guys or that their failures are a reason not to draft him at #6.  But you do need a list of reasons why he will be more like a high end WR going for 1,000+ annually and less like one of those guys.  Their size, athleticism...all comparable to Pitts...some maybe even better. Pitts' expected specs are not those of some unprecedented TE prospect, especially considering that he is one who does not block well.

I want him to put up impressive speed/agility numbers for a wr.  If he can't do that, then I don't see the value so high.

I think that Pitts is different from those previous TEs you mentioned given his skills as a WR. He has excellent footwork, knows how to use his head and hands to set up routes, knows how to use his body as a shield, etc. Those other TEs weren't the polished WR that Pitts is. Basically, he has the skillset that made Ertz so good, but with the added benefit of explosive ability. I view him as a cross between Ertz and Metcalf.

Pretty sure I saw some posts during the season of people saying he's better than Reagor

The interesting part for me is Ron Rivera has a lot of power for WFT, and they’ve already signed Heinicke for 2years/$8M — and Rivera was quoted recently that he thinks Kyle Allen could have done the same things that Alex Smith did last year at QB to help them win (?) the division.

All signs point to Alex Smith being gone, and it’s hard to imagine any other teams picking him up with his injury history.

Not in my opinion - at least not at 21.

Problem is there is not truly a top ten this draft.  In other drafts many of the players considered at 6 would be mid to late 1st rounders.  A trade back is the best option if it becomes an option at all

He had trouble throwing it IIRC. Maybe he needs to be on a team that does chunk plays. Either that or call it retirement

They can finally get out of his contract and there's no way they are keeping him with a $25M cap hit. They don't need the space but it doesn't make sense to keep him with such a high number.

He might be able to get a backup job somewhere, but he should take the CBPOY as his own personal Super Bowl and go out on top.

Alex Smith makes all the sense in the world to sign with Jacksonville as a veteran mentor role on the bench for Trevor.  Meyer was Smith's college HC.

Sooooo, just out of curiosity is it not possible for a black college kid to be most like a white pro? Give me the top 3 anytime if this is true

Confirms my wish not to move up for any of these guys. I can't help but comment on the fact  that Hurts has better stats across the board than Lawrence. Lawrence also looks skinny to me. A couple of big hits and he'll be toast, imho.

Looks like his head is way too big for his body

Trading back if no CBs have gone at 6 is a wise move, if it exists. I'm ok with Fields at 6. But if not, Sewell or trade back.

This whole Carson debacle has changed my opinion. The team should ALWAYS keep, perhaps even a too capable backup as the team accrues trade value at low risk. The risk comes when you're forced to lock someone up long-time. 1 or 2 years is all I think we should guarantee here on in. And always have a good enough contingency as backup. What happened with Wentz, even in isolation from what happened to Pederson, should never happen again.

Don't disagree, but 2 counter-points:

1. Other than TO, they've never had a real stud WR. Young D-Jax was a homerun hitter, not a high volume guy. Who else is there? Jeffrey? Kevin Curtis? It's a little bit of a chicken/egg issue. I could argue the only time they had an elite WR, they featured him.

2. We have a new coaching staff with no link to AR or Kelly. So let's see what they do.

I think Alshon fits the mold.  Granted, he wasn't to the level of someone like TO, but he was a legitimate #1 WR and could handle high volume. He only had 57 catches during the SB year. Now, you can't complain too much given the results, but he was playing great football and it was kind of surprising they didn't look to get him the ball more often. The following year he had 65 catches in 3 fewer games, so I think it is fair to say he was capable of an 80 catch type of season.

I do agree that a new coaching staff could be a game changer, and the AR school dominance over the last 20 years has skewed things.

You still spread it around, a top receiving target opens up opportunities for mismatches if they move a safety over to provide help, thus creating one on one matchups all over the field. That has value that doesn't show up on the stat sheet but the W/L sheet.

Tony Gonzales was as good as any WR in NFL history (other than the GOAT), forget "position," focus on the player.

I'm focused on ROI.

A WR at #6 needs to get the ball a lot to justify the selection.
