I think he can do that, but the fact that you can motion him around the formation from inline to out wide will make him a match up nightmare.  Better than just lining him up at WR.

Teams are going to know the matchup problem. Putting him inline neutralizes his advantage in space vs smaller/less athletic players while simultaneously hurting the run game by allowing the defense to put an extra player in the box.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Problem is there is not truly a top ten this draft.  In other drafts many of the players considered at 6 would be mid to late 1st rounders.  A trade back is the best option if it becomes an option at all

I'd be willing to bet there are 6 players better than Pitts.

Confirms my wish not to move up for any of these guys. I can't help but comment on the fact  that Hurts has better stats across the board than Lawrence. Lawrence also looks skinny to me. A couple of big hits and he'll be toast, imho.

You wouldn't move up for "Andrew Luck" or "Desean Watson" or "Steve McNair"?

Pretty sure I saw some posts during the season of people saying he's better than Reagor

High bar.

I think he's looking at it from an injury perspective.

He thinks they will all get injured?

Sure, but Lawrence, Fields, and Lance are not Luck, Watson, or McNair. You (the generic you, not the you you) can compare them all you like but comparison is not equivalency. And as long as we're doing comparisons, Hurts is more like McNair than any of those three guys.

Can I interest you in a "less mobile Andy Dalton”?

Fair enough.

You have to be able to take what a defense gives you, if they keep safeties deep, run and throw underneath, if they try to jump routes, double moves and big strikes, and so on.

Players give you different options, a blocking TE who can catch helps the run game and gives you an outlet in play action. A RB like Sanders allows you to set up mismatches on wheel routes, a deep strike WR keeps the safeties honest, a big target who can snatch the ball on crossing routes gives a QB easy throws.

Trick is avoid extremes, like the Eagles with no deep threat, then Doug gets guys with speed and goes deep route crazy.

A balanced offense allows you to adjust game to game and within games, they take away one aspect of your offense, kill 'em with another.

I kind of disagree.

You have to be able to do what you want when you want to do it.  Great offenses don't "take what the defense gives them." Everyone knows the Chiefs are going to air it out. Everyone knew the Warner/Faulk/Bruce/Holt Rams were going to air it out. Everyone knew the 90's Cowboys were going to run the ball. They just couldn't be stopped because they had superior talent.

"taking what they give you" should be situational at best, and is defeatist at worst.  I want to give the defense something they can't stop.

You'll notice he wasn't included in my list and neither was Romo

What?   That the hype will quiet down?   What evidence does anyone have that says he’ll run in the 4.4s?   And even if he does.  He still isn’t worth the #6 overall spot.  That’s insane.

I'm saying home field pro days somehow shave your speed

But when you start motioning him out after initially lining up inline, and a linebacker is on him out wide, then it causes a matchup problem down the field.  Then teams will start going nickle and dime and he can over power corners blocking in the run game.

What team is going to put a LB on him to begin with just because he's in-line? Defenses will make matchup subs. At worst they'll have a safety on him.

Sooooo, just out of curiosity is it not possible for a black college kid to be most like a white pro? Give me the top 3 anytime if this is true

Only one I could think of would be Byron Leftwich. Dude was a statue in the pocket. Not sure who he was compared to back in the day but had to be someone white, lol.

I remember Vick being compared to Steve Young back in the day.

Both lefties.

Similar size and and both had great running ability as well.

Who the hell is that guy?  Zach Wilson is nothing like Phony Romo.  Better arm, more athletic, tougher build.  That’s a ridiculous comparison.   Mac Jones seems like Matt Leinhart to me.  Kyle Trask, a thicker Nick Foles.

I was going to say Matt Leinart for Mac Jones as well...and I’m a Jones fan.  But that’s the mold.

Very different running style though.

I heard on NFL Radio this morning someone else suggesting Jacoby Brissett to the Eagles to "mentor and backup Hurts”.  A couple of things:

a). Brissett just finished a two-year/$30M contract with the Colts.  Granted, he’s not likely to get offered a starting gig, but how much will he expect to get paid?

b). What makes anyone automatically think Brissett would be a mentor to anybody?  He was a starter for one season, then got benched when the Colts signed Rivers

If the Eagles brought Brissett in, I think he would intend to compete for and win the starting job.  That thought isn’t very appealing.

I mean I’ve always compared trubisky to a trash can.

C- Jacoby and Jalen's style games are a 180. Jacoby is more like Wentz. Hes a mobile(not scrambling) QB but does not take off often. hes a throw first Qb. Not sure how much he would help Jalen with them being so different. Even with him knowing the system.

Just let Hurts play at this point. Bring in some cheap clown to be a backup and roll the dice.

Ertz almost always draws a corner, occasionally a safety.

I would like for a stat geek to show how often our 12 personnel was matched up against a 5 DB look.

While our running game has always been pretty effective, Ertz doesn’t block well enough and our running game was never dominant enough to call that a difficult mismatch.

Like you said, Pitts needs to be a top notch receiver.  End of story.  Maybe he is.  But we spun ourselves into knots with this 12 personnel mismatch game before.  I don’t see Pitts as someone who creates mismatches while blocking.  DC’s will roll out an extra DB accordingly.  If he’s a mismatch for a DB to cover because he’s so big and fast, then we are onto something.
