Just let Hurts play at this point. Bring in some cheap clown to be a backup and roll the dice.

Sounds like you’re describing me — I even have my own dice; too bad Lurie wouldn’t cut me a check for league minimum .....

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

How about a cheaper imposter of a cheap clown?

Only QB Id be okay with at 6 is Wilson. Want no part of Lance or Fields. To be perfectly honest, I'd rather take a team like Carolina or SF behind the woodshed and get as many picks as possible and let Hurts have it this year.

I'm still in the make him earn it camp. We just had a coaching staff who apparently coddled too much which led to our current situation. Let's stop just handing things to players without them competing and earning it.

The coaches are here to mentor Hurts.  The only QB that would interest me as a mentor is Alex Smith.  Smith had a similarly pedestrian arm but was highly refined and accurate. He’s tasted success, failure, and has been around the NFL.

He probably wouldn’t cost much because, despite being a big name, the nfl has seen that he really can’t play anymore.

It's 3 weeks until the Eagles need to be cap compliant.  Come on Howard, the clock is ticking.

Agreed. Don't need the backup that can come and win games. Just need a backup to be on the roster. If Hurts goes down or gets hurt we'll probably end up #1 or damn close to it anyway

Beat me to it.  That way we will have a super early pick in round 1 and another clear at the end.  We may actually pull that off without needing the backup anyway.

I think you guys are downplaying the backup a little too much. You still want the guy to be somewhat capable. Not to win games but to help with the development of second/third team all camp as well as the starters if he is forced to play in actual games. You can't just sign Clayton Thorson and be fine with it.

Koy Detmer seems the perfect solution.

I agree. If they are going to roll with Hurts, or use a first round pick this year, then they need to bring in an experienced guy. Someone who has been around the league and can help in the QB room but also with those younger guys especially the WRs.

The back-up QB may be called on to play.  He has to be able to handle some games when needed.  If Alex Smith can't get in the game, then his value is much less.

Another name comes to mind: McCown.  He has all the experience and knowledge, but can't play much at all.  As a coach, he would be fine, but as a back-up, not that much.

I want no part of Fields.

To me, Lance and Wilson are the same prospects.  Athletic guys with big arms who are low on grade-able experience but have a chance to be great.  The nuance underneath that...I haven’t seen enough to say.

We are going to win 3-4 games with our starter.  If he goes down, I want someone that I know will lose the game for us.

Who the hell is that guy?  Zach Wilson is nothing like Phony Romo.  Better arm, more athletic, tougher build.  That’s a ridiculous comparison.   Mac Jones seems like Matt Leinhart to me.  Kyle Trask, a thicker Nick Foles.

Thor? God of thunder?

I don't think Hurts is a franchise QB but will be happy to be wrong. It's a rebuild year so just let him play. I think we'll end up last in the division

Just need him to be able to pass the ball to the young guys and hand it off. Don't need one of those $10M backups for that

He would be the second best QB on the roster.

Please note, I am not advocating for this, I am just sharing what is overwhelmingly likely to happen.  The Eagles are going to take one of these three guys at either 6th overall or in some form of trade up.  This is what they are going to do for a whole host of reasons.  The mock drafts with adding a game breaking WR or other player are fun, but please prepare yourself.  Far more likely that a 2nd or 3rd round type WR prospect could be added.

I’d be happy with Fields. He’s got an arm, mobility, seemed to improve each year in college, and showed great toughness vs Clemson. Think he’ll be really good in the right system.

I only see them asking a QB at 6 if Fields or Wilson drops to them.  I don't see them asking Lance at 6 or anyone else.  I hope they don't trade up because they need to replenish this roster overall and it would be gutting us of more draft picks.

Not sure one of Fields or Wilson drops to 6 though.

I'm pretty sure the Eagles want those rumors out there.

I still think Mac Jones has a chance to have the best NFL career out of all of them.  He'll go to a non-dysfunctional franchise, might get surrounded by talent and protection earlier in his career than the rest of them, and is ready now to pass the football at an NFL level.

I'm intrigued about Wilson but really don't want to trade up to 2 for him.

On the topic of backup QB's, Gardner Minshew will become the NFL's next journeyman superbackup, Fitzpatrick 2.0.  He's quirky, bold, fiery, and can sling it around with abandon which will take over some games for you.  But no one is going to have any interest in him as a starter.  I guess that gives him 2nd round value at $10m per year.

Not sure why it would take an "NFL Insider” to break the news that the Eagles will do their due diligence and a full prospect analysis on each of these QBs — and Lawrence will be included.

Can’t wait for posters in here to start losing their sh!t when they find out the Eagles will be going to these guys’ pro days, and especially when they bring them in for official visits, if protocols allow
