Shanahan would want a QB that can move a little in the pocket and out.  He isn't that guy.

He did well with Matt Ryan and Cousins. Those are two guys I think pretty comparable to Jones.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The comparison of Hurts to McNair is really weak.    You can be as snarky as you want, Mr. Alcorn State expert, but it doesn't defend that ridiculous take.

It's a heckuva lot stronger than comparing Hurts to Tebow.

Hurts has no problem with accuracy, his problem, like most college QBs, is reading NFL defenses.

Or we could just enjoy playing a mock game and sharing it with everyone so they could critique it.

There have been mocks posted in the last few weeks where several second day and most third day comps were questionable picks for the schemes that Sirianni and Gannon are likely to run.  More SSs, smallish CBs, CBs that excel in different schemes paired. In drafts.  3/4 LBs, 3/4 DEs, NTs, behemoth OL not fit for Stouts type of line.  Just about any WR based on how the particular game ranks them, Sam F’in Ehlinger. The real value to the rest of us is something like I grabbed Elerson Smith in the fifth because although he played in Northern Iowa’s 3 man front he played both down in the dirt and in the two man front. Good size and good athleticism. Should fit well with Gannon’s 4/3 with some 3/4 looks. Nice edge rotational player that could progress. Needs some more pass moves.

Which is why mocks are silly. What is valuable is looking for players who'd be fits for our new schemes and who might be overlooked by pundits.

Example, tall CBs who play man in college without deep help who might look better in the hybrid cover 2/cover 3 scheme ran by Indy. Can they press? Do they have good (not great, or they'd be top picks) hips?

You shouldn't think.  You might strain yourself.  Especially with these kind of takes.

He played his entire career under Fischer...and still turned out the career he did.  That says something unto itself.  Can you imagine if he had a HC with the capacity to coach even a high end level High School program?

You'll have no problem bashing him in 2 years when we have a new QB.  In fact, you'll likely blame EVERYTHING on him.

Don’t forget bashing them defensive coordinator like he gave up midway through the season as he was the only one in the press conference saying they can’t let a rival win and celebrate on the field when we decided to tank.

Would you take the over/under of 62% for completions next year for Hurts?

Solid line, I would go over

If we do draft a QB he only gets 4 starts to prove himself, it’s only fair.

Not at all.  And the fact that you think that makes me a lot better about my position.

Hurts no problem with accuracy :roll::roll:

He completed 45.9% of his passes in the second half.

Any of his players.  The wide receiver screens to Greg Ward were infuriating.  We had 3 speed guys available in Hightower, Watkins and Reagor and he picks Ward, who is the slowest by far, to run a play where quickness and speed are required.

Let’s break that down.  Hightower and Watkins are body catchers more than hands catchers. Hightower does have acceleration but not overly quick. By quick I mean agile quick moves.  That change of pace and acceleration play well with slants, not so much on screens.  Watkins is one speed fast. Most unpolished WR on the squad because he primarily used that speed to get open in college.  Really hasn’t demonstrated that quickness that helps on screens. You primarily want Reagor as a deeper threat clearing out screens.  He has great feints and body leans but his agility is a bit suspect.  DP threw RB routes to Ward all season. He has shown good quickness and pretty damn good hands.  The other two players that fit screens are Sanders and Scott.  Scott shows real body control and good hands.  Nice wiggle and the best speed of the three.  Boobie is best at screens when fully healthy because of his size and speed but has the worst hands of the three of them. Used correctly, Ward and Scott can hide due to their height but the Doug/Press slowness in getting plays in killed the Eagles motion last year and motion is what works best on screen plays.  Further, they kept the RB in a lot last year for pass pro because the line was so banged up.  I am not saying Ward is the ideal choice for screens, he isn’t but he made better sense than Hightower or Watkins and with Reagor morphing to Z, a better choice than him too.
Personally, I think there were flaws in how Doug/Press used the receivers last year and that is part of the reason they are gone. But the logic they used for having Ward on screens makes some sense.  I think the logical player for screens currently on the roster is Scott.  In motion and out of the backfield.  Not Westbrook but quite possibly Westbrook lite.

This is good. Great if the Eagles can get a 4th round pick for Ertz and add a RB

Yep.  RB is hard to work in without that 4th round pick.  They will probably have to survive with Sanders, Scott and a low level FA ( Malcolm Brown )

In this scenario, with the 1st from the Colts and the 2nd I acquired from the Jets, having 4 picks in the first two rounds, RB can be next year.

I wish Jackson wasn't such a midget...would be the perfect Kelce replacement if he was remotely close to his college size listing.

HIghtower wasn't a good fit on screens, but Watkins showed some nice open field agility and COD.

I'm watching Kyle Trask now and I have to say so far he's my favorite QB. He makes NFL level throws every game. Navigates the pocket really well. Strong arm, accurate  and has nice touch. What's the general consensus on him? I like him more than Fields and Wilson. Lance I think still has the highest possible ceiling, but he's got the farthest to go before he's NFL ready. I could see Trask being ready to play by mid season.

Cousins maybe.  Not Matt Ryan.  And again, Jones is not a mobile qb that Shanahan would like in his offense.

Yeah I forgot how fleet footed Matt Ryan is. Thanks for the reminder
