Decided to watch some LBs. Looks like a really good class. I’m intrigued by Cameron McGrone. Gannon has history with Zimmer, who loves A gap blitzes, and Leonard is a greater blitzer too in Indy. McGrone is incredible at blitzing. Great speed and able to slip around blockers.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Just out of curiosity, did our franchise QB and entire franchise fall apart because our #2 CB sucked and we have poor depth at DT?  Or did it happen because our OL got old and he had the worst receivers in the NFL?

So should we be focusing on depth and secondary on defense as we prepare to ruin another QB?

Our offense sucked because our starting LT and all pro RG went down before the season started and our all pro RT never recovered from a high ankle sprain the season before resulting in summer surgery and trying to play too soon then having our LG go down soon thereafter.  Our X never healed from foot injuries and his replacement hasn’t lived up to his draft status, our older Z broke down before our #1 WR recovered from a shoulder injury and then a thumb injury, our talented HB had a hammy and by the time he was ready, his OL was awful, no quality depth at the IOL, and we threw our fifth round not a Z WR in at Z and asked him to run the wrong routes for him. And our receiving TE decided to pout.  On top of that, our "franchise” QB believed he had arrived and regressed instead of improving.

Our #1 should be healthy, we have a coach that can target WR strengths so we should see progression from all six.  Our OL should heal, we now have a swing T and this is a very good draft to add some IOL depth.  Most WRs don’t produce in their freshman years (Mims, Ruggs, Jeudy, Hamler etc.) so no reason to believe we won’t see progress from ours.

But our D caused us to lose games.  Thee evidence is sooooo visible.  Our DC had a DL approach that was designed to stop the run so our awful secondary, except Slay, was torched time and again for lack of a second CB and no true FS.  Our nickel signee was putrid.  Gerry played way too long on an Achilles injury.  Singleton made too many mistakes, Edwards has great instincts but is too slow to cover and Riley failed in Atlanta for a reason.  Add to that our #3 or #4 DE is gone as is our #3 DT.  The holes in our D are so obvious, I can’t understand why you can’t see them.

What’s the deal with Tamorrian Terry? Why isn’t he projected to go higher?

Just watched some more Terry and he’s blocking dudes into the bench and and he’s making tackles as a gunner. Seems like a nice X prospect here.

Love him.  No idea why TDN has him in like round 7 all the time.

Not that it means anything just what a weird coincidence against the Packers and the score being what it was. And in the third quarter.

Who are some WRs in the draft that I need to watch? Not the top guys.

Nico Collins WR Michigan.  6’4” 215lbs

He’s probably a late 2nd round early 3rd round if he doesn’t sit out 2020.  On PFF mock drafts and Walter Football you can barely find the kid even though the Michigan QB situation wasn’t very good.

There are holes in the D...I just don’t care.

As I said, a passing game takes years to develop, between the pass protection, pass catchers, and passer.

It takes one offseason to piece together an improved lb corps and DL depth.

We are winning <5 games next year.  I could not care less about burning resources to check off short term team need boxes.  They could have open tryouts for the #3 DT for all I care.

I’d gladly re-sign Ridgeway and hope this is the year he can stay healthy. I’ve liked the little I’ve seen out of him.

I really like Zaven Collins if he drops to us in the 2nd.

This is highly revisionist.

Lane came out in one of the weakest drafts for top 5 talent in history. He was the third player taken at his position, and was viewed largely as a boom or bust player with enormous upside due to his athleticism.

Cox similarly was viewed as a high upside player who declared for the draft as a 20 year old with impressive physical ability and one good college season.

These were not guys anyone was talking about as can’t miss franchise cornerstones. They were not sure things by any stretch of the imagination. They were viewed as upside plays with higher than normal risk for their draft position but with commensurate upside if they fulfilled their potential. Credit to Howie, the coaching staff, and the players all around for realizing that potential.

Disagree, at least from here.  Cox was viewed as the player who best fit the team and in regards to Lane, there was a collective sigh of relief after the Phins traded up for Jordan.

He posted a video in the ambulance?

Great idea.....I've just been shot and I might die so let me post a video of it.

Unbelievably, this happens all the time. With the majority of shooting victims refusing to cooperate with the police, it's crazy how often the only real lead for the detectives comes from the victim's video from the ambulance/hospital where he calls out the guy who did it.

I agree with you on the time horizon outlook for the offense, but I’m also not at all convinced on Hurts or the non Lawrence QBs. I’m sure one of the second tier QBs will become good, just because out of a handful of them one is bound to end up being solid, but I wouldn’t want to stake the franchise on any of them.

On the other hand, I kind of agree that we have a bunch of young WRs and at some point you have to actually play them to see what you have.

Ideally I think the best move we can make long term is trading down to load up on draft resources for next year when we can hopefully be in pole position to draft our franchise QB, and if not, at least have a bunch of draft picks to put together a package to get our guy.

Assuming there’s no way to make a major trade to convert value to next year, I’d look to solidify the OL as our first priority, but if the value is at WR at #6 and we can’t trade down, then don’t over think things and just take the WR.

QB, OL, WR in that order as far as importance, but the board will probably dictate that the first two aren’t available. So if you can’t trade down and the WR is staring you in the face, just take him. I don’t have any interest in a DB at #6, or really any defensive player who doesn’t project as a pro bowl pass rusher.

In a perfect world, we trade down from #6 and get a first in the mid teens, a first next year, and some mid round picks. Grab the best OL available in the mid teens or even trade down again if we can add a future first (at that point we might have FOUR if the Wentz 2nd converts).

If the Patriots don’t move up for a QB and Parsons is gone, they’ll probably take Collins to replace Hightower.  He won’t  make it out of the first round.

He would really beef up the defense in the middle. Good consolation prize if we choose to avoid Parsons.

Hoping the Pats go up for a QB. Collins in the late 1st or early 2nd plus a haul of draft picks would be great!

I mean he's Urlacherzzz 2.0.

Will throw my hat in the 'see what they got at WR' ring. Maybe add Dyami Brown or Tylan Wallace with pick 70 or 84.

I win!  I'll be submitting this for my resume to replace Howie.

really? Why would people be questioning that?

I like Bateman a lot and have said he seems like the happy medium between Smith's lack of size, and Chase's lack of speed and seperation. Bateman has at least average size, and good speed. Hes the more well rounded prospect.

Yep, I agree.  And Bateman's hands are out of this world.

Scouting comps I've see on Bateman so far include: Odell Beckham Jr., Justin Jefferson, D.K. Metcalf and Michael Thomas.  (Not a bad group to be associated with) .

Scouting reports I've read have Bateman as "A multiple pro-bowl level player in the NFL".

So now Howie will steer clear of him.

Between 9-14 yes that's where we should trade down. Unless Pennei or chase falls. Then we should pick either bateman or Parsons.

Man, i really liked Vick. I was so impressed with how he turned things around, did the best he could as a teammate and mentor, plus he was just fun to watch.  Too bad he couldn't put it all together.

I also think the NFL have their virtual meeting this week and one of the topics of discussion again is lifting the 1 helmet rule.  If so, Kelly Green as an alternate is in play.

He's a good player.  It's just so hard to get a grip on what Michigan WR are.  DPP last year was a low round pick and he showed a lot of potential with the Browns.  DPP and Nico Collins I believe were both highly touted in the same recruiting class if I recall.  Michigan just has a terrible offense.  He's probably going to be a solid pro.

I think he might sneak in to the late first.  I think he's best suited for a 3-4 team but can you imagine if TB took him to play with Devin White.  LaVonte David is a FA and 31 years old.  Replace him with Collins and that's a nasty LB duo for the Bucs.  Ugh, I wish we had good linebackers.

That's the first thing I thought.  I'd call family first if possible?  However, if it was a hit job maybe he was trying to get that out there?  I dunno, I despise the culture of having to livestream anything and everything.  Sorry to see that he passed away however.

Collins definitely needs to go to a 34 team , as good as he is in coverage  , and he may be the best of all the backers , which is saying something at 260  ,but he might be even better at pressuring the QB

The way TB uses their LB though, I think he would dominate with them but I do agree.  He has Pitt/Balt/NE alllll over him.
