I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Evidently not.  I'd guess he had a ceremonial title and little more responsibilities, but no real career path laid for him

Well shame on Dougie yet again

Not a strong market for the mentees of HCs who won 4 games, got fired, and have been bashed for being clueless in putting together a scheme and play calling.

Some of that wasn’t Doug’s fault, some was...but Duce is gonna have to redo that part of his HC prep.

This might get you into trouble just saying

Detroit is going to be awful this year. It's a complete rebuild. They're also historically a bottom 5 franchise. Teams aren't looking to poach Lions assistants.

It's highly unlikely Duce ever gets an OC job at the NFL level, let alone a HC job.

Unless you're a trained scout and have access to a couple years of game film, your opinion has about the same value as most media guys.

Every year a bunch of guys "drop" in the draft, and other rise, because scout opinions differ from media opinions - and media guys aren't going to get honest information before the draft - a scout who leaks what a team really feels about a prospect pre-draft will soon be an ex-scout.

And so much of a player's success depends on his fit with the scheme of the team that drafts him - which is why many draft boards only have a 100-150 names on them, a team may remove a lot of players b/c they're bad fits, character issue or injury issues, or drop them well below the media consensus.

To me, it's more interesting to figure out the type of players Sirianni and Gannon will recommend to Howie, not so much the actual players, but the prototype qualities that determine how a player moves up, down or off the board. So where Schwartz wouldn't be interested in 3-4 DE types, Gannon might if he sees them as 2 down run stoppers who can move inside and pass rush at DT. Gannon may prefer longer CBs, faster safeties, put a higher premium on 3 down LBs. Sirianni has worked with big WRs with average speed, a mix of traditional TEs and H-back types, and RBs with receiving skills. The one constant is Stoutland and his confidence that he can coach up raw, athletic OL prospects you find on the 3rd day.

So I'd down rate CBs like Darby (fast but short), fast straight line WRs, shorter DL, etc.

If the Eagles take a nickel CB prospect, it'll be on the 3rd day. If they go DE, it'll be guys like Sweat (tall) rather than Barnett or Graham. Note how quickly Avery was moved to LB.

LOL didnt think of it that way. Such a dirty mind you have, lol.

You can either play football or you can’t , the nfl has become a league of hybrids at all levels of the field. The days of finding a specific player who does a specific thing , are over

That's simply not true, there are only a few elite athletes that can do everything, you're gonna play 30+ in a game, 40+ including STs, maybe a half dozen can play hybrid roles.

How many DL can play all four positions like Reggie White? How many true 3 down linebackers? How many DBs can play CB and safety at a high level? How many WRs can handle all three spots? How many TEs can block in-line and also beat a CB one on one?

Most hybrid players trade strengths and weaknesses, undersized LBs who can play a Safety role in a pass defense are usually below average against the run, and so on. Urlacher was a freak of nature.

DL who can play across the line

backers who can stop the run cover, and pressure the qb

safties who can play run support and come up and cover

no more 2 down players , if they’re coming off the field it’s for a breather not because they are a liability

no more 2 down backers or a in the box safety etc

you watch the super bowl? Bucs have two ilb who play 3 downs, dl who flop inside and out and vice versa , a cpl olb who rarely leave the field, other than to get a breather , both Winfield and Whitehead play the pass and the run

Wrong. Not even close.

Hyrbids, for the most parts, are guys who arent great at anything, just good at a couple things(cordell patterson comes to mind, Devin Hester. Curtus Samuel.

You wouldnt ask Slay to play Linebacker, and very rarely, if at all youd ask him to play Safty. I wouldnt ask Fletcher Cox to Play Corner back or even Middle line backer.

Don’t be naive, hybrid doesn’t mean asking the qb to play de

6 minutes ago, Bacarty2 said:

those arent hybrids. those are guys who are ELITE at their positon.

Like I said. JJ watt playing accross the line, is elite. JJ watt playing Saftey is hybrid.

Devin Hester playing WR/RB/DB is because he's not great at one thing.

Randy Moss could be lined up any where and run any route. thats elite, not a hybrid.

There are tons of players who are flexible and can play different spots like anywhere on the line, Move around in the backfield or play any rec spot. It doesnt mean they are Elite. It just means they are what I just said.....flexible which does add some value. BUT a lot of these guys are avg players as well. I moved all over at my position. I played both safety positions, nickel and even outside at times. I was far from elite. But I was flexible enough to give the coaches confidence in putting me in those situations.

In the end what the other guy meant was teams are looking for players who are flexible in there abilities and can be moved around in different situations. This is really not new though. this concept has been around for quite some time now.

Shaq  Barrett plays the run and the pass and drops in coverage at times , he don’t leave the field because it’s not a passing down

love everything about this draft - dropped to 7 then to 8 to pick up more midrounders

Pete Werner gives off way too many Nathan Gerry vibes to me; want no part of him at all.

1 minute ago, Bacarty2 said:

yes, very rarely does he drop in coverage, but he essentially plays the same position different ways. You wont see him line up at tight end. You wont see him at corner back. you probably wont see him off the LOS.

Playing WR and RB is a hyrbid

Playing DB and WR is a Hybrid.

Playing the run and the pass as an outside rusher is elite.

Stop , you sound more ridiculous than usual. Hybrid doesn’t mean playing WO and DE

when you can stop being asinine  ,we can continue the discussion  of a hybrid , but  until then , I will not engage such nonsense .

we need LBs that understand how to drop in zone. those two can do it, i think

So you think a hybrid is someone who plays DE and then plays DE the next play, and then plays DE the next play.

Thats fine, thats not a hybrid to me. I'm sorry we have a different understanding of the word.

Thats why you all over the place. No where did anyone say that. If you think anyone posted that as hybrid then you truly are lost. I honesty have no clue what you are even reading.

i can hear my brain cells committing suicide reading the slop going back and forth...stfu

I hope they do it. Do I think Dak is a good QB? Sure with all the talent around him. Do I think he is Mahomes level? No way. You pay Dak that kind of money and the Cowboys wont have the luxury to keep some of the weapons and oline that make Dak good. The positive for the girls is that they draft recs well. But I hope they cave and give in to close to his demands. DO IT JERRY

Well, Alabama has sustained the offensive power house numerous years in a row where what we saw with LSU was essentially a one hit wonder.

I'm not a "fan" of college football(as discussed on here often) because of the lopsided-ness.

I HATE Mac Jones.

I watch college football(often) to see whos going to be good at the next level, or because nothing else is on.

I'll go one step further.. Everyone is screaming about Sewell. The kid looks like a monster. but everything SCREAMS NO to me.(gut wise) I dont trust Pac 12 players in the trenches.

Ok so let’s get this straight it’s a no to:

Sewell, Pitts, Lawerence, Fields, Jones and anyone who played with too much talent on their team so count out Devonte Smith, Jamarr Chase, Jalen Waddle. Who do you want at 6?
