I know it’s about who you know.

What I am saying is that is an antiquated old school mentality.  But I wouldn’t expect a bunch of meatheads to be innovative lol.

OK. So how would you go about hiring a coaching staff?

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

That 2013 season was pretty cool to watch

Especially the Raiders and Snow Bowl games

Greg Ward is the kind of player bad teams have in their starting lineup, and good teams cut from their roster.

Harsh for a player who has pushed to improve.  His routes were what he was told to run.  All he does is catch the ball.  He will lose playing time as other receivers progress but has done nothing to warrant the dislike.   He performed his job better (68% catch rate, 3 dropped passes for a 5.4% drop rate despite having the most catches) than Jordan Mailata (7 sacks, 7 QB hits, 18 hurries, 3 penalties) but gets crucified for not being an all star.  They both have been playing their respective positions for three years. Ward gets crucified for his yards per catch.  The Eagles came out and said that they were using a shorter route easy read to try and take Wentz out of his funk.  You don’t get YAC when needing to reach and contort to make catches.   Look at Julian Edelman, another QB to WR prospect and his stats through three seasons.  Ward’s are better.

I would be thrilled if the other receivers on the Eagles were good enough to knock Ward down to the fifth or sixth receiver.  But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Ward continues to get better.

Which is what I said in the post you previously quoted.

Fact is it hit Avant right in the hands and he let that bounce up for a defender.  Saved by  part of the ball hitting the ground.  Eagles offense was putrid that day, Eagles defense comes up with a turnover and they desperately needed the offense to make a play.

Avant should have caught that but he didn't. Greg Ward makes that catch.

And you keep talking about one play like he can't catch.  He has a higher catch percentage for the Eagles than Jeremy Maclin, Nelson Agholor, Chad Lewis, LJ Smith, Alshon Jeffrey, Terrell Owens, DeSean Jackson, Kevin Curtis, James Thrash, Irving Fryar, Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis.

He came up small when his number was called in big spots. That was a big spot that the team desperately needed a play.  In the 2010 wild card game against the Packers he had a huge drop in the endzone on a pass that hit him right in the chest.

Greg Ward in two years has already had numerous occasions where they have gone to him in a big moment and Greg Ward has come up big with the catch because unlike Avant when the light is shining the brightest, Greg Ward has proven that he is C-L-U-T-C-H.

So yes I would take Greg Ward over Avant 10 days out of 10.  And I won't sit here while people act like Ward shouldn't even be in the team meanwhile Avant is glorified.

He averages 5.5 yards per target and it’s a hot take to suggest he’s bad slot?

Ertz averaged 4.7 yards per target in 2020.  They shortened routes with a targeted receiver to try and get Wentz out of his yips. The Eagles seemed to have short and long targets last year because Wentz couldn’t hit the side of a barn on intermediate throws.

You made this point 4 pages ago...why do you keep repeating yourself? Are you expecting different results?

He's a guy you can stick back on PR and not worry about fumbling.  He is a verisitile player that you can use in multiple ways and not have to worry about him being a liability.

So reno mahe?

What Alpha said still stands though. Even we didn't acquire him until we were desperate for a receiver, he was cut by us several times and probably will be again if we ever get some good receivers. That doesn't mean we "dislike" him.

If only Mahe had established himself as a clutch player in big moments of the game on offense.

Yeah, it was Avant's fault that the Eagles scored three points.  It was Avant's fault Matt Barkley threw 3 interceptions.  It was Avant's fault that Nick Foles got a concussion.

Good thing DeSean Jackson stepped up in that game, oh wait

Riley Cooper was underrated.

How about that to change the Greg Ward conversation?

Yeah when he doesn't catch a pass that hits him in the hands in the endzone then yes it actually is his fault that they only scored 3 points.   Touchdowns in the NFL give you 6 points FYI.

Ward dipped from 6.3 to 5.9 in aDot. It was a negligible difference.

And Ertz looked washed last year, so his low yards per target tell me more about Ertz than anything else.

Any way they can reasonably get under the cap and not do anything with Barnett or Ertz? Would certainly give them more leverage with both players' situation. I didn't realize they were gonna free up THAT much cap space by restructuring Hargrave.

I suspect that Barnett extension discussions are ongoing and the structure may be dependent on what comes of the Johnson and Cox restructuring.  I do suspect Howie is trying to hang onto Ertz for the cap replenishment post the new year.   I also wonder what is going on with Goodwin.  Never signed his restructure that lowered his hit to $1 million, took the $150k "advance” with his Covid opt out.  Still not reduced from his $4 million charge against the cap.  Wonder if he is playing hardball to avoid the credit of the "advance” and try to force free agency.  Dumb move a 31 year old oft injured speed receiver.  I expect he gets cut at the absolute last minute so he doesn’t get an early start on free agency.  Eagles are a pretty fair team but his apparent moves reek.  I respect why he opted out but not for avoiding signing a restructuring that may have been a requirement of the trade.

So you wouldn't upgrade Ward if you got the chance?

There is no player on the team for which we wouldn’t take an upgrade.  Which player would you not seek to upgrade if you got the chance?

Well he didn't join the popular 4.3 club

Guys, Greg Ward is way better than Jason Avant and I'm going to prove it to you:

Remember those two drops in Avant's 8 year career? Ward doesn't even know how to spell drop.

See, Ward is better.

RememberTheDrop, ironically you dropped your own clown nose.

Yup, and some are wayyyyy more easily upgraded than others. That said Ward will be here at least another year

2013 season was a lot of fun. It gave us

- Week 1 explosion against Washington
- Foles' 7 TDs Raiders game
- Snow Game
- Week 16 50 points vs. Chicago
- Week 17 NFCE clincher vs. Dallas

What the big clutch catches in big moments of Avant career?  Ward already has several.

No it doesn’t. It was hyperbole.   We signed him and started teaching him how to play WR as a UDFA. Potential was there.  Now, in the Eagles merrygoround at WR coach, teaching changed every year. For two years he was on and off the PS. But he really developed under Dubb Williams in the AAF. When given a chance with other WRs as the Eagles desperately searched for WRs at the end of 2019, he performed. He continued to develop last year.  Coming out of camp, Reagor was hurt but he beat all other WRs except DJax, who wasn’t considered for the slot.  Then DJax broke down.   So he beat Hightower, Watkins, JJAW and Fulgham.  Not exactly the best WRs but all draft picks. Now in camp, Fulgham was new to the team.  Because JJAW didn’t rise, he went to the X but when Alshon took snaps, Fulgham didn’t take Wards.  Avant said on his Blog, play JJAW at the slot position.   Well, he didn’t beat out Ward.  When Hightower floundered at the Z, he went to the bench, not to replace Ward.
Now, the slot is a deep position this year in the draft but if we go WR, we should go X in my view.  That said, unless WR is the BPA by a long way, we have greater holes elsewhere.  Heck, #2 QB is a greater need.
