I wonder if Nicky "Two Times" loves his brother as much as Lurie loves Howie......

An NFL head coach in Philadelphia referenced his former HS coach brother when talking about coaching to the talent of the players on the field.  That's our guy folks.  For those who didn't want Josh McD because of what he did 10 years ago, or Eric Bienemey because he would be another Andy disciple, or Duce Staley because he was a in Philly too long or Lincoln Riley because he was a college coach.  Remember the Head Coach, hand-picked by Lowie, referenced his big brother's high school team as someone he likes to point towards when developing a team.  I wonder what week of the pre-season the powder puff game will be?

I'm gonna repeat something that I often say..........but not normally this early...........................

I told you so!

Maybe you will get to say ITYS.  A huge aspect of coaching is teaching and preparing players with sound fundamentals.  We see that with this current coaching staff.  He mentioned his brother to point out how he adapted what he played to account for the players skill levels, and apparently with some success.  He mentioned how in Indy they adapted to three different QBs in successive years.  I liked the four traits he looks for in a player.  I liked his press presentation.  He may be the type of coach for a rebuild and young enough to possibly grow with the team. Any reason not to hope he succeeds?

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Ridgeway plays about half a season or less every season but hey, let's roll the dice there yet again.... At least he is young and looks decent when on the field. Trying to find some silver linings here

Yes, g-d forbid we don't have a stud third or fourth defensive tackle.  Our 2022 Super Bowl dreams are dashed.

What exactly do you expect? We aint signing anyone good this year, we've kicked the can about as far as we can

How about someone that doesn't get hurt every year?

Lol there goes Howie's idea of two teams bidding against each other. Can't even make this stuff up anymore lol

And if Howie traded him for pennies on the dollar people would be blasting him for that. Can we just let the Ertz situation play itself out before we start bashing Howie for it? There's plenty of things to criticize the guy for, the Ertz situation isn't one of them, yet.

We're better off keeping Ertz than we are to dump him for a 5th.

You can tell it is the off season.  Everyone in the blog has their sensitive panties on.

Point is, with the little money we do have, don't invest in injury prone players.

You think there are secrets in the NFL?

Everyone knows Howie wants to trade Ertz, but Howie has also made it clear he doesn't HAVE to trade Ertz, he can keep him and get a comp pick next year.

So if you offer a 5th, he'll laugh at that, one year of Ertz and a 6th rd comp pick is worth more than that.

Which means it comes down to whether someone offers a solid 4th or a late 3rd. Howie ain't blinking. Because he doesn't need to.

I guess people would rather have Mayock leading the team who was going to cut someone before realizing someone would trade a third for the player.

Who? Let me give you some advice from my half marathon running days. Always prepare yourself that at some point during the race it's really going to suck (usually the middle) mentally prepare yourself for the suckage and you will get through it. This season is the middle.

The right time to trade Ertz was after the 2018 season.  I said it then, everyone laughed me off the boards.  He and Goedert had only been in the offense together for 1 year, Goedert looked pretty good, and Ertz could have fetched a 1st round pick AND change...which would have been a great cycle after the high 2nd invested in Goedert.

They could have transitioned from their congested 2018 12 personnel offense into something that resembles an NFL, or at least SEC quality 11 personnel grouping.

But, we are where we are.  And at this point, it makes sense to hold onto Ertz (depending on what offers they are turning down...I'd take either a 2021 or 2022 4th).  But they may be better off ramping up his stats in a lost season and hoping for the best with the comp pick, which may actually be much better than the trade offers they are getting.

Of course there is some crossover.  For the most part, it was an extremely pigeon-holed and predictable offense with rigid roles.

On this we both agree.

That's exactly who we should be investing in.  Cheap 1 year deals with the hope that if they stay healthy, they'll get a good contract next year and we'll take the comp pick.  It makes more sense to gamble (since the season is a loss any way it's not even really a gamble) on a player with upside than to sign a body who if healthy will still amount to nothing.

Now I don't even think Ridgeway meets my own standards because there's not a ton of upside there so I'm talking more philosophically.

Still waiting on the Brooks, Graham, McLeod and Elliot updates, but for the running count, Howie has shaved 68 million off the cap the next two years.

I would say after 2019 was the time but I agree with your larger point that holding onto Ertz was a clear mistake by Howie and should have been obvious at the time.

Yes, if you want compensation the best time to trade a player is when he's still good, is that what your point is?

Injuries happen.  He provides solid depth and because of the injuries, I suspect this is a friendly contract for the Eagles. Probably allows them to cut him if he is not one of the best DTs on the team at the end of camp.

Well, teams regretted letting both of those guys get into round 2.

...edit...oh joy, he's from Stanford like JJAW.  That's just going to rub it in when whomever this guy is goes to 10 pro-bowls.

Are you going to jump in every time I bring up JMcD?  Your opinion is noted, we get it.  I was talking about numerous options over this current mess.  Not just JMcD.

Okay fair enough. Now can you wait until you actually have something to complain about with Sirianni before you actually complain? That's fairly weak at this point.

Especially when it's really 2024 he should be focused on because that's when John Johnson is scheduled to be on the market again.

That's the 5th least amount of cap space in the NFL, as of now, for 2023.

Fortunately, however, since none of Howie's crap draft picks will need to get extended, we don't figure to eat into that number much at all between now and then.  The rest of the league will probably creep lower in cap space as they extend their players.
