I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Question is......would he be an upgrade over Greg Ward?  The answer is yes.

Some of us on here hate Ward and some like him for what he is.  But we can all agree JuJu would be better.

When you are ready to compete, that question matters.  If the answer is yes, add him on for the title run.

But right now?  Pretty much everyone out there is better than what we have.  It doesn’t mean we need to add them.

For what its worth, this was McNabb 3 weeks later after the benching after 3 straight wins.

"I don’t go back to the benching because I personally don’t agree with the benching.”
And, despite saying he doesn’t "go back to the benching,” he kept going back to the benching.
"I kind of look at it as a situation [of] ‘Why use me as a scapegoat?'” McNabb went on to say.  "There’s other ways of going about it.  If all phases aren’t playing well and you bench the quarterback, they’re not gonna focus on all the other players, they’re just gonna focus on us.”

If McNabb went multiple weeks benched he would have lost it.

Not sure why people think it's unnatural for a player to react poorly to a benching anyways.

Yep.  It's the philly way.  Talk ish about McNabb and now he is hated by most of the fan base, for life.  Carson will be the same way.  No wonder he wanted out.  I hate how McNabb is trashed by a lot of you people.   When I say YOU people.  I mean....not me.

I used to think it was just passion and desire and heart, but it's worse than that.  It's pettiness and vindictive and spiteful towards anyone that doesn't exactly act how they want them to.

The McNabb years were awesome, but they fell short of the SB expectation...so let's hate the QB that carried us there.  Those Septembers started with an expectation of playoff runs.  We didn't hope it happened.  We knew it would.

Yea, especially professional athletes who are geared a different way and spent most of their teen/adult life as the guy.

I think Foles is 3 at worst.  Foles had one big incredible season too, just like 2017 Wentz.  Then Foles tacks on a title run and a 2018 run.  Wentz’ 2018-2020 regular seasons certainly don’t do anything to move him ahead of Foles, IMO.

I was thinking about it in terms of stats more than just success.  Wentz passed for like twice as many yards and TDs.  As much as we give Foles credit for winning the Super Bowl, Wentz was playing on an MVP level in 2017 and there's no way that team wins it all without the season he had.  I think if you just looked at longevity they are also pretty even.

Donovan Mcnabb is not exactly a testament to mental toughness.  Cmon guys.

Next draft I do I'm trading down until I hit punters

Well, I have enjoyed the draft since I was a teenager waiting for Lindy’s to come out on the newsstands.   So many folks focus on the first couple of rounds. I tend to spend time watching games looking for mid and late round choices as much as first few rounds.  Looking for that Jason Kelce or Trent Cole.    This year, those lower picks and UDFAs include Ps.

It just makes no sense to me. The guy gave us the best run of football in my lifetime. Before McNabb and Reid, I never contemplated winning more than 1 playoff game in a year. Yeah, there were things that drove me nuts about him, but he carried the team for a long time.

It does seem like a Philly thing. McNabb and Schimdt are trashed while guys like Kruk and Runyan are treasures. It's like we are determined to hate anyone with talent, and love anyone who reflects the typical Philly fan.

Who would want to play hard for a fanbase where the majority think like this?

You play for your teammates, personal pride, and because you want to compete. If you need a fan base behind you to play at a high level, you aren't a competitor.

Take it fwiw.

I would probably put McNabb at the top.  Randall and Jaws together given the longevity of each.  I think in terms of stats it's:

1) McNabb

2) Cunningham

3) Jaws

4) Wentz

5) Foles

6)Van Buren

7)Vick

You mean Van Brocklin.

That's nice.  Back when we had Wentz WRs came to play with him.

What does this tell you about Hurts.

But then he followed with a post that the agent called the Eagles, so that tells me, 1) agents talk with Howie and 2) unless he was fishing for a competitive deal to counter with Pittsburgh only, his client was at least willing to consider Philly.  Just out of curiosity, what WRs came to play with Wentz besides Jeffery and Ward?  Smith? Wallace?

This Florida and Virginia tech game has been great.

I think the average Philly fan likes to look for things to be miserable about.

Might be a bit long, but whatever:

Probably in the minority, but I don't really see Wentz as being mentally weak or unwilling to compete. To be blunt, I see it as him more so giving us the middle finger between the two.

After his rookie season where fans were beyond excited for the promise he showed, things took off in 2017. They destroyed teams and he was the best QB in the league. He destroyed his knee diving to score points in a big game and followed up with throwing a franchise record TD pass on a crippled knee.

We all know what happened after. Foles took over, played some of the best football this franchise has ever seen in two games and won us a SB. The entire time this was going on, Wentz was on the sideline helping out in anyway he could (while also rehabbing) and talking/working with the coaches and Foles frequently.

Then the off-season came. A loud (albeit small at the time) portion of the fanbase wanted to move on from Wentz and stay with Foles. He had his statue slapped in front of the stadium and Wentz was hardly even mentioned as a driving force to help the team get there (and people are still unwilling to admit this).

2018 came and again ended in a rough way for Wentz, despite playing well. We all know what happened with the back and Foles took over again and caught magic once again. We started hearing whispers that Wentz was a jerk and those fans that wanted Foles became even louder and grew in number. His teammates built a shrine to him in the locker room. Fans were arguing the Wentz wasn't clutch and couldn't perform in big moments like Foles could.

Foles went on his way and Wentz got a contract. All things considered, it was the right move to get rid of Foles. 2019 the team was an injured, talentless mess that Wentz (with several game winning drives) almost single handedly dragged into the playoffs. More stories came out about how he was the devil and a piece of garbage teammate despite always talking his guys up, never shitting on the slop around him or blaming the injuries. The "he can't finish" a season narrative was more or less erased until the cheap shot happened in the playoffs.

Now, I get wanting insurance for the QB position, particularly because he's had some bad luck in that department, but he isn't stupid. Like the rest of us, he can see an aging, pretty talentless roster and can hear the constant reports about how he's a garbage human being that doesn't work and is mentally "weak" despite always being a class act and continuing to do so after being gone.

But when this offense is so devoid of talent, you choose to spend a second round pick in a QB and lie to everyone (including Carson) that it's for a Taysom Hill role. You then constantly find ways to shoehorn him into the offense to try and justify a beyond idiotic pick and divide the locker room between the two QBs. The fanbase was asking for Hurts long before he got the call and were more or less done with Wentz at the beginning of the season. He played poorly, I get that. I agree. He's supposed to be your guy that you've clearly shown otherwise and made zero indication that he would he your guy moving forward. You made zero attempt to get him on the field again even though the playoffs were never truly a reality.

The benching wasn't a moment of "well, I haven't played well so it makes sense." The benching was likely "this team, city and fanbase clearly isn't interested and this team is becoming a steaming pile, so F em."

And I don't blame him.

After 2/4/18 I no longer have that problem. I asked God to let me see one, and I saw it in person. I'm good.

He doesn't have to acknowledge any of that to us and we have no idea if he was or wasn't dong those things.

You are correct, he doesn't.

I guess Eric Wilson is the last hope at LB.

What a Fing waste this front office is

I don't see a lot of "hate" for McNabb, just that looking back it's clear that he was only elite for two seasons, most of his career he was a middle of the pack QB. But a lot of fun to watch in the early years - but a big part of the team's success was its defense.

McNabb never really committed to the city the way say Dawk did, and that explains why he was never embraced, he lived in Arizona and came to Philly to work.

Yup - In fairness, Van Buren might have been more responsible for the Championship in 49 than Van Brocklin was in 60.
