Fulgham only atopped producing when his snaps were given to Alshon. I have a feeling that is what Pederson was talking about when he said he was "tired of being told what to do.” I have a feeling Howie wanted to give Alshon snaps for trade value. I still think Fulgham showed some talent last year and was then benched for Alshon. He may not be "best WR in the league for five games” good, but I think he’s a solid starter. The best of what we have, for sure, although that’s not saying much

Fulgham also played like complete garbage once Alshon came back. He has to own that.

Doug was being told what to do because past couple of years he was too soft to fire any of his staff even though they sucked and was then forced to.

Admittedly, I didn’t get to watch every game toward the end of the year, but the ones I saw, he barely saw the field and was barely targeted. Maybe he wasn’t getting open. Idk. But it sure didn’t seem like he got many meaningful snaps

Travis had more targets then Alshon and more snaps then Alshon from the time Alshon came back till the end of the season. This whole thing is overblown probably because they both suck

Impossible to overlook the effect of trying to get some trade value into Alshon by having him show some signs of life. Too much meddling from upstairs.

Uh, Alshon had no trade value with that contract. They still had a shot at a playoff spot when they put him back in the lineup

Alshon had no value period. He was shoehorned into the lineup to try and see if he could put something on film that might entice a desperate trade partner. No other explanation.

Alshon turned those 31 snaps into one catch btw.  Finished the season with six.  He came back, was forced into the lineup, significantly outsnapped fulgham in four straight games. And had six catches. 
 

this article notes alshon’s drop on a 3rd and 5 in its discussion of his taking playing time from Fulgham.

if you or anyone else wants to try to justify sitting the brightest young prospect at  WR for a washed up vet who hasn’t had nfl speed in years and consistently put up 0-2 catches on 30+ snaps, I’d love to hear you try.  It’s a joke  

fulgham did genuinely good things with routes, hands, body position and beating the press.  There is a lot there to develop.  He wasn’t a Ryan moats or Bryce brown flash in the on on fresh legs  

I’m not saying he’s the next negation but sitting him for Jeffrey was indefensible.

Sure a 1st or 2nd since this draft is pretty strong at that position, after that position would be way overinvested so let the cream rise to the top. I think Bateman will be pretty good so I’m all for trading back a good bit and also collecting at least a 2nd and 3rd as well

Our roster is sad.  The other East teams are assembling good skill rosters and we are focused on those 2.

Correct.   And putting Alshon back in the lineup was a huge boost for the offense.

 

 

 

Oh, wait... that wasn't a single game stat line, that was for his whole season.  7 games.   That's less than 1 reception per game.  So, the big move mid-season was to add this stiff to the lineup.  A guy with zero cares about the team and who is all about 'getting his'.   Ever wonder why he played 2017 with the shoulder injury?   Because he was on a one year deal, that's why.  It wasn't about the team, it was about getting paid.
