I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Devonta Smith is going to be 23 during the season. He's an older rookie with potentially sub ideal measurables. He is also one of the best route runners to ever come out.

Let's hope someone takes him in the top 11 to remove him in the decision-making process.

I agree, its best to use our pick somewhere else. I dont think howie will pick him though. Not because howie is smart, rather its because I feel like he will get cute with the pick

Older rookie.  Enormous productivity.  Low on explosive talent.

If that's not a typical Eagles draft pick (2020 was an aberration), then I don't know what is.

Pass on Smith.  Sure.  Pass on Waddle?  Depends how the draft falls.  If he is still trying to get right after his injury, then it makes sense.  He is a much better pro prospect than Smith.  But I would pass on WR in general.  It's Surtain or Horn....unless something goofy happens.

"goofy" = Howie

You left out big college program.

I think as long as Howie is the GM he probably makes the team.  I agree with your assessment otherwise.

I doubt Howie makes these decisions to "save face."

Avery at LB is a much better fit for Gannon, at 6'0 248, he's not what Gannon likes at DE.

If we could draft a LB in the fourth round at that size who ran a 4.59, 4.36 SS, 6.90 cone, 36" VT, 10'4 LJ, would you be interested?

Whether he can find a role remains to be seen, Zimmer likes A gap blitzers in the nickel defense, Gannon might use Avery that way. Depends on his coverage ability, can he drop into zone and be credible?  He was a LB in college and has the athleticism. Worth a look in camp.

Yeah and the O-Line was crap last year. Mailata is by far the favorite below average Eagles player ever...

Yup, and with the amount of high draft picks we have coming up in the next couple of years, we could build a young, talented group all on rookie contracts.

I disagree.  Lots to be gained.  What if Waddle goes and runs a 4.29, jumps out of the stadium and puts up ridiculous numbers?

Instead of being projected to go to the Eagles at 12 where 2020 was :

Contract: $16.67 million for four years (fully guaranteed)
Signing bonus: $9.685 million

He could bump himself up to 6-7 range:

Contract: $23.6 million for four years (fully guaranteed)
Signing bonus: $14.73 million

Could make himself $5 million.

and lose how much if he isnt 100% or gets dinged?

True, it goes both ways.  If he isn't 100% I'm actually a little bit worried that it's taken so long to heal (referring to Waddle).

And blitzed the A Gap with success in college.  Now AAC OL are rarely drafted into the NFL as starters.

You said workouts are overemphasized by the fans, yet you are justifying the 4th round investment in Avery based on his measurables.  And that's even at a read and react position where workouts are less important, let alone a downhill explosion position like WR or DL.

Sure, but a LB with those measurables likely had bad instincts...otherwise he'd be a top 100 pick.

Bias is funny in that it's usually not a conscious choice to "save face" in spite of contrary evidence but rather an inability to objectively evaluate the evidence when it does not support your bias.  I don't know how Avery will perform as a off the ball LB.  He has athletic potential but it's not like he's a proven talent at the position.  He's a projection.  My bigger concern is that Howie will be unwilling to adequately address the LB position with a top 4 pick in the draft because of his bias towards the players on the roster he has already obtained in spite of the lack of evidence on the field they can be successful.

If this premise is true, does that make Hurts a good pick at 53 or Fields a bad pick in the top 10?🤐

I want no part of Fields for the Eagles.

I feel the same way. Big school QB with good athleticism, but not good at reading defenses or getting the ball out quickly. If Howie drafts Fields, I’m gonna lose it

He played at Memphis.  There was concern about his size but that seems to be a non issue.   Not great in coverage.   Was projected as a fourth round LB coming out. I actually recall his college game as Memphis plays in the same division as UH, my alma mater so I watch as much AAC as I can.

I thought Fields was going number 3 to SF?

Fields is just a tiny upgrade on Hurts. I like Fields but I like Hurts too. Eh. No QB really wows me this draft. Just get BPA at 12 and just dont try to get cute or don't over reach and I am 100% happy. Just get me a damn starter for a position of need thats it.

They are both very good WR but have legit question marks when it comes to investing possible top 10 picks on them.

Smith- it's been beaten to death but how much do you weigh and what kind of speed, strength do you have?  I think the 40 is overblown but I also think sometimes it does matter.  if you are 170 lbs. soaking wet then I want to know you are a sub 4.4 guy.  I know he ran past guys all day at Bama but I want to see the numbers that coincide with that.

Waddle- While more muscular, he isn't THAT much bigger than Smith so I want his measurables and I also want to see how the ankle is.  How does he look in the 3-cone drills cutting on the ankle?

They both will still get drafted high but I think it's 100% fair to say it's a mistake not to work out.

Remember, it was at his Pro Day that Sidney Jones wrecked his achilles

How many pass catchers will get drafted in the top 11 picks?  Last year Ruggs was the first off the board at #11.  If that happens again (not that I’m saying it will), the Eagles would have an option to draft any of Chase, Pitts, Waddle, Smith with the exception of first off the board.

If an offensive weapon is the goal (again, if), I see QB getting drafted with 5 of the top 9 picks #1,2,3,8,9 — if not even earlier.  I also see Sewell gone at #5 to CIN.  My personal preference of that group would be Chase-Pitts-Waddle-Smith, in that order.  I’ve heard MIA at #6 is likely to draft an offensive weapon and does not want to draft a player who has opted out.  Waddle and Smith have a connection to Tua, so do they climb to the top of the Dolphins’ board?

DET is also likely to pick an offensive weapon at #7.  Past DET I think it goes back to QB at #8 (CAR) and 9 (DEN) then DAL grabs Slater or Surtain at #10?  Giants at #11 go OL/DL?

I really do see a possibility at #12 that the Eagles have one of Chase/Pitts on the board — but it likely requires Waddle and Smith are the picks at #6 and #7.  Very possible that Horn, Farley, Parsons are still there as well.

Agreed in some ways. But I can't get over how skilled he is. To me, it's Smith or Waddle at 12 if either is available. If they're both gone? Maybe I trade down and try for another 1 in 2022.
