So, Arthur Smith wouldn’t be at the top of your coaching search I assume ....

I didn’t say that. My thing is there’s games where they get way too cute with what they want to do instead of doing the thing that is their bread and butter and it has caught them in some of their losses. Third and two and fourth and two if you run it two times with Derrick Henry I’m guessing because Derrick Henry is as big as he is and as good as he is he probably is going to be able to get you 2 yards. Especially late in the game where he begins to break off more chunk yards. Heck first down he had 8 yards on the carry.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Yeah i agree. However against playoff teams (outside of the bills game which was on a Tuesday and kept getting postponed and they had nearly 2.5 weeks to prepare) it has been shown to drop and not be nearly as effective.

Interestingly, Tannehill was fourth in the NFL in RZ touchdown passes. Among the top eight RZ TD passers, only Kirk Cousins had fewer passing attempts. Inside the 10 yard line, he was tied for fifth in TD passes but had the fewest attempts of anyone in the top 10.

Man, if it’s Saints/Bucs next week I’ll be cheering hard against both teams and likely won’t decide who I want to lose the most until the 2:00 warning in the 4th quarter

That's every team.

When you have a season long 75%, 78% over a 4 game stretch won't change it much.   Removing that won't have that big a change.  Here's an exercise... remove those from the stat and let me know if it drops under 70% for the other 12.  I doubt it will...but if it does, it won't be much lower.

Like I said... every team struggles in the RZ in their losses... that's normally why they lose.

Normally yes. However against playoff caliber teams they saw a drop even in their wins. Went from 75 to 65. And really the reason for that is the bills game where they went 6-6 on a Tuesday night with 2.5 weeks to prepare otherwise it’s right around 55-58 range.

greend's meteor.

I always liked the Saints under Jim Mora.  I felt bad for the Saints under Mike Ditka.  I didn't care about the Jim Haslett Saints... but I absolutely hate the Sean Peyton Stains.

So in wins against good competition their RZ TD percentage would have been good enough to be either 9th or 10th in the league, and that’s with you cherry picking their opponents.

I was sold a bill of false goods with this Nickelodeon broadcast

You keep discounting things and finding reasons to discredit them.  The numbers don't lie.   They were a really good RZ offense this year, no matter how you slice it.  To judge the 55-58% that you've whittled them down to.... where are the top defenses in the NFL at defending the red zone?

I just found out that I have Nickelodeon and switched over... they just compared Brees and Taysom Hill to Spongebob and Some kind of pink thing...  I assume that means they are friends?

This is brutal.  But, they are trying to teach the kids what a 'flag' means... but at the same time, it also seems like they might be dumbing it down a bit much.  They were excited to see what the flag was for?   Flags are very rarely exciting.

And didn’t i say they ran plays with jonnu smith where he ran as a tight end. Again in the games that they lost their percentage dropped by 18%. you want to know why? Because in those games besides the Steelers game they decided to get cute and try to do a Johnnu Smith run out of the running back position as he’s a tight end and take Derrick Henry off the field and have in their back up running back.

When they lose and had struggles in the red zone it’s partially because they try to get cute inside the red zone when they didn’t need to be and most of those losses were against better opponents

Who is this "Gabby" person?   She seems like she's never seen a football before in her life.

Brutal.

The announcers sound smarter than Vilma, I’ll give them credit for that

I never said they were awful in the red zone. I said there were times where they stop giving the ball to Derrick Henry and they should just give it to them inside the 5 and no one’s going to stop him on 4 Consecutive carries. What I said was when they lost against mostly better competition they struggled as compared to teams like the jags or lions or Texans and had a drop off of 20%. You guys seem to think I said oh yeah they Fing suck. No what I said was they played a lot a bad teams where they put up great numbers. Then against some of the better there was a drop off partially trying to be too cute and partially better competition.

DeAndre Carter using his PR training in Philly to make that fair catch.  Greg Ward would be proud!

She was excited for how high the ball goes when the punter kicks it 😂

Nah, I heard that you were upset that your fantasy team didn't score more points because they didn't use him every time.

Yup...  I had to turn it off... A punt for a fair catch is not an exciting play, but to her it was the most exciting thing she'd ever seen.  Teaching kids the game is good, but teach them what to get excited about while you are doing it.

 Mitch sucks, put in Foles

She’d lose her mind watching an Eagles game

Yeah, you’re really nitpicking a unit ranked first and second in the NFL in RZ offense over the past two years.

I’m not. They still had a 10 percent drop off against playoff caliber teams. That’s including the bills games. Their red zone percentage might be higher cause they get the benefit of having two of the worst teams in their division in all of football.  So when they have 82% (18-22) success against worst defenses in the league in the Texans, jags, lions for 5 games that doesn’t help them?

Why does the Andy Reid tree think returners are worthless? I’ll never understand it.

JR Reed was a major reason the McNabb team made the Super Bowl. Ward CAN’T return punts. Scott shouldn’t return another kickoff.

Not really. When I’m already winning anyway it makes no difference to me if he scores or he doesn’t.  I just know because I watch their games every week that when they lost they tended to try to get too cute and struggled against better defenses then the bottom feeders of the Texans, jags and lions at 82%.

And 65 percent against playoff caliber teams still would have been top 10 in the league, so still really good even in your cherry-picked scenario.

I astounds me that you think CB is the most needed position on the team.

Well, given that the WRs are likely better next year, let’s run through the depth chart.

Let’s start with the offense:

X WR Fulgham, could improve here but not real value until mid rounds

Z WR Reagor, Watkins

Slot WR Hightower, Ward. (Good value day three with players like Toney or Stevenson, you will love their speed)

TE Goedert, JJAW, Jackson

LT Dillard, Mailata

LG Seumalo, Driscoll

C Kelce, Seumalo, Herbig (nice value at C/G day 2 and 3

RG Brooks, Herbig (again, nice value at C/G day 2 and 3)

RT Johnson, Mailata, Driscoll

Note, still unsigned but Wanogho struck me as a good potential swing T and Toth has some potential. Depth and upgrade potential but not a huge need,

RB Sanders, need (nice value day 2 and 3), Scott

QB Wentz, Hurts, kind of need

Now I keep hearing Chase as an X but I think he is a Z. For the football gods sake, give our sophomores a chance.

Now defense

DE Graham (with a salary adjustment, I suspect) -aging and needs a plan but 2020 isn’t the draft for it, Barnett (extension and adjustment needed), Sweat, Avery? Best edge value in draft is late day two, day three.

DT Cox, Hargrave, Williams, McGill  could see some attempt to upgrade the rotation although I like Williams.  Value day three.

MIKE Edwards, Bradley.  Upgrade day two.  Not a good LB draft so probably talking a project. Wish we had a fourth.

WIL/SAM (they play a lot of two LB)  Singleton, Taylor, Smith, Bachie  Need to give Taylor a chance  Singleton is at least depth  best value is day 2/3 unless you want to draft Parsons, which I don’t recommend. Could go day two though

Outside CB   Slay...................................James, I can list Maddox too, but he is really a slot. There is nothing else there.  Mills is a UFA but, really? Decent but not absurd depth in the draft but the talent is probably day one with possible bleed into day two.

Nickel Maddox and LeBlanc (upgrade a real possibility)

FS Epps (McLeod but not until later in the season)  People can pipe dream about Maddox but no.  Great depth at S this year.  Best value, day two.

SS Wallace (Mills and Ford are UFAs)  At the least, depth needed.  Looks like some diamonds in the rough day three.

So yes, CB is the greatest position of need on the team. That cupboard is bare.  Not can we upgrade but rather a massive hole. Toss up between X and S for next up then LB, C/G and RB depth. Then maybe slot.  Frankly, I suspect Fulgham and Hightower would excel at slot.  TE depth would be nice, like DT and swing T.  Future DE help but this draft’s edges are all with holes and weigh in the 230-240 range  better suited as 3/4 OLBs.  I am a BPA draft fan but realistically when considering holes that might be addressed in the draft, one needs to consider the pool.  Same with UFAs, although with Howie cap hell, UFAs to fill holes doesn’t seem possible this year.
