Ok good! I mean he's a fantastic QB but it just isn't the right move for this team right now.

Isn't that why they drafted Hurts though? They saw Wilson in Hurts?

Even if so that just proves how obsessed they are with him. It’s been 8 years and they still are talking about him, why wouldn’t they be front of the line waiting to scratch their Wilson itch?

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Criticizing Hurts and bringing up his faults has absolutely nothing to do with Wentz. Are people truly unable to grasp that concept?

Yes

That's Howie's way.   He obsesses over players.  Then overpays for them.   Wonder why they just had to trade for Desean?  And then had to give him a big contract?   Because Chip made Howie cut Desean.  So, Howie has been obsessed with 'fixing' that.

Seems like a pretty weak narrative constructed off a single example.

That’s the same offense that invested in TY Hilton and Paris Campbell.

They inherited Hilton, drafted Campbell, but also Pittman, developed Pascal from the PS, signed Johnson from our PS.

We already have three burners in Reagor, Watkins and Hightower, they may add another but I think most of the WRs added later in the draft/UDFA will be those 6'2-6'4, 4.5-4.6 types that run the intermediate routes. Right now only Fulgham and JJAW fit that prototype.

Actually it's more the media playing off that which has created the Wilson obsession.

I don't think they saw Hurts as Wilson, the QB Hurts most closely resembles is Dak.

And they regret not moving up and taking him in the late 2nd, early 3rd, not using a high 1st rd pick on Wilson.

Yes, I could see them trading for him, but it won't be a mega-deal and it can't happen until 2023. It'll be Seattle moving on from Wilson, and the Eagles picking him up cheap.

Not sure why it's your agenda to make this a Wentz vs Hurts discussion.  Wentz is largely irrelevant now because he plays for a different team; the only impact he will have moving forward is the return the Eagles got -- the two draft picks.

Hurts wasn't very good in his 4 games as a starter last season.  It doesn't matter it was the first 4 games of his career; other teams don't care, and the fans don't care -- and they shouldn't.  You get the gig as starting QB, you need to perform.  No excuses.  Wentz earned his defenders with 4 years of good work.  Hurts gets one season -- 2021.  If he plays well enough to keep the job the Eagles can use their 3 first round picks next season to build around him.  If he doesn't play well enough the Eagles will use some or all of that draft capital to get a starting QB who is good enough.

End of story.

He's hated Wentz for awhile now. Remember he used to get drunk and rant in here during gameday and then come back and apologize every week

It's funny because they bring up Wentz more than anyone else

Man I would trade one of our picks next year to murder this draft. Come away with bateman, a lber, and a safety in the first two rounds.

Would be nice to find a way to trade up a bit to grab Bateman if he slips to late 1st/early 2nd after they take Surtain/Horn.

So did Sewell drop because of his combine?

I am getting my second Moderna shot today.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope it is not a train!

Marshall might be more gettable in that scenario

I will buy the argument that 4-5 rocky games are not enough to pass definitive judgement on a player.  While many qb's do show they belong right away, several QB's with middling undifferentiated rookie seasons have gone on to pro-bowls/SB's.  That's fine...part of the process.

But here are a few tidbits on Hurts...

From Mel Kiper: "Just did enough in the passing game to get by. When they needed more, they went to Tua (Tagovailoa) and they got it. So, who knows? Nick (Saban) isn’t going to discard a Jalen Hurts, but to say he’s a pro prospect right now, I’d say no. I don’t think — as a quarterback — I wouldn’t say he was an NFL quarterback prospect. But we’ll see if he could maybe make a change to another position down the road.”

The first player Lance Zierlein compares him to is Tim Tebow: Like Tim Tebow, Hurts is a winning dual-threat quarterback known for his strength, toughness and character. Hurts is a more accurate passer and better runner than Tebow but is inconsistent as a decision-maker and tends to break the pocket when throws are there to be made. His deep-ball touch and intermediate accuracy improved this year so teams may see him as a developmental talent who will keep getting better in the right scheme. He'll struggle to beat NFL defenses from the pocket, but his ability to grind out yards on the ground and make off-schedule plays should make him a solid backup with upward mobility.

He was asked multiple times about changing positions during senior bowl meetings.

Yes, Kiper's analysis was pre-Oklahoma.  Sure, deride the internet scouts all you want.  And yes, 4-5 games just isn't enough.  But of all the young QB's in the NFL, of all the elite QB's in college, of all the QB's who will be drafted round 1 this year......can you honestly, seriously say you are happy THIS is the young QB that is our guy as QB1???  He's literally our QB1 due to peculiar circumstances and a series of unfortunate events.  I don't think anyone with their head screwed on straight would pick Hurts as the young QB they want as their starter.

Look at the contracts he's given to his current players.   He overpays, due to excessive loyalty.  Brooks, Johnson, Ertz (which he turned down, but was overpaying), Jeffery, Peters, but yeah, I'm building the narrative on a single example.  There are no other players that Howie has become obsessed over and overpaid.

Be prepared for a bit of a hit... Tylenol is supposed to be the best.

Johnson and Brooks are underpaid if they are healthy.  Just compare them to similar players at their positions that have signed since.  Obviously the Jeffrey resigning was a mistake.  He spent a few million on Peters last year.  Was it my preference?  No but it clearly wasn't his either given when Peters signed.   The original Ertz extension was a bargain.  You win some, you lose some.

Well, they aren't...

Lane's extension was fine.  I won't speak to whatever can-kicking Howie did with his contract this offseason.  We'll likely pay for that later.  But his existing contract?  No issues there.

Brooks?  That was not a wise decision to extend him after his 1st achilles injury.  He still had years under contract.  Just completely unnecessary.

Thank you for that helpful information.  Perhaps next you will let me know what that has to do with whether Roseman correctly read where the market was going for those positions when he signed the contracts.

I tend to agree with you on the Brooks extension.  For me it wasn't so much about his prior injury but that I could tell this team was heading for a significant rebuild and so it committing more money to a 30 year old player didn't make sense to me.

What was the original offer Howie gave Ertz that Ertz ending up turning down?

Tebow is an awful comparison, which makes me question Zierlein's competence. Dak is the right comparison, Dak was a mobile QB with a meh arm coming out of college who had top intangibles. Tebow was never a decent passer, Hurts throw a nice catchable ball with good accuracy. His issues are about transitioning to a pro offense, which are the same for almost all the college QBs these days (one reason Eagles fell in love with Wentz was he played a pro system in college, same with Luck at Stanford). You don't know if any college QB out of a spread or RPO can make that transition because  these systems, against college DBs, create numerous open targets and big windows that you don't see in the NFL.

How are you feeling?

I feel okay. I actually got a 2nd rapid covid test that came back negative. I'm waiting for the "send away" results.  I definitely have something and it's lasted a while.  But being vaccinated, not feeling all that bad, my wife and granddaughter (who had/have the same symptoms as me) tested negative and now my 2nd test is negative I'm suspicious.

Thanks for asking!
