I tend to agree with you on the Brooks extension.  For me it wasn't so much about his prior injury but that I could tell this team was heading for a significant rebuild and so it committing more money to a 30 year old player didn't make sense to me.

OL is the one position (other than QB) where players can excel well into their mid-30s. Brooks is a stud athlete who was actually practicing with the team at the end of the season.

Also, there is little or no correlation between injury and age (which surprised me), probably partially due to self-selection, injury prone players drop out of the sample as they age.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Johnson and Brooks are underpaid if they are healthy.  Just compare them to similar players at their positions that have signed since.  Obviously the Jeffrey resigning was a mistake.  He spent a few million on Peters last year.  Was it my preference?  No but it clearly wasn't his either given when Peters signed.   The original Ertz extension was a bargain.  You win some, you lose some.

No, they are not.   They are paid at the highest of anyone at their position by a good margin.   They are overpaid, especially when you have to qualify it with a 'if they are healthy'.  The health issue is part of the equation.

Regarding Ertz, I'm not talking about Ertz' original extension, I'm talking about the one that Ertz turned down, which was still an overpay.

Check the numbers.   Brooks and Johnson got that new contract TWO years before their deals were up.  And Howie threw the kitchen sink at them.  Even now, Johnson's number is still GROSSLY overpaid.  $4M/year higher than the next highest?    And on a potentially degenerative ankle, that's even worse.   Brooks' deal is better in line now that they redid his deal this offseason.

Peters extorted the team to move to LT, and rather than telling him to shut up and play the game, they relented and gave in.  He never should have been brought back at all, let alone give in to his demands.  There were other options at RG after Brooks was injured and they had plenty of time to get a better option, but frankly, I don't think they even considered an alternative and just went back to Peters... because he's friends with the owner.

Tebow is an awful comparison, which makes me question Zierlein's competence. Dak is the right comparison, Dak was a mobile QB with a meh arm coming out of college who had top intangibles. Tebow was never a decent passer, Hurts throw a nice catchable ball with good accuracy. His issues are about transitioning to a pro offense, which are the same for almost all the college QBs these days (one reason Eagles fell in love with Wentz was he played a pro system in college, same with Luck at Stanford). You don't know if any college QB out of a spread or RPO can make that transition because  these systems, against college DBs, create numerous open targets and big windows that you don't see in the NFL.

Right.  So you did what I figured most would do...you argued that those evaluations were too harsh or unfair.  OK.  Maybe you are right.

But the question stands.  Are you seriously happy THIS is the guy that is being handed our starting job?  Most 23 year old QB's who walk into starting jobs were never, ever compared to Tebow, fair or not, and have not had to answer questions about position changes.  Do you really want your future QB to be compared to Dak freaking Prescott as the best case upside, simply on the grounds of both having top-notch intangibles and meh arms?

@Ace Nova asked my why I could be excited about year 2 for Mcnabb/Foles/Wentz and not Hurts...despite comparably underwhelming rookie seasons.  That's why.

If I remember correctly Banner would usually give them more guaranteed money up front  with a lower cap hit ave/ year.

Seems to me Howie is giving them lots of money up from and on the back end of their contract which doesn't make a lot of fiscal sense.

Seeing how much more Lane is paid is eye popping I didn't realize he was paid that much, that's a ridiculous contract almost as ridiculous as Fletcher Cox.

I'm not capologist by any stretch of the imagination but it seems Howie doesn't know what the eff he's doing with the cap which is supposed to be his speciality.

On a happier note, I think the most interesting camp battle, by far, will be LT.

Mailata v Dillard will be fun.  That battle, however, is somewhat complicated by the possibility that the coaches might envision Mailata as a RT.

Dillard/Mailata settilng in as bookends is an enormous boost for the future of the franchise.  Think of it as a free first round pick (or two firsts) that can be used elsewhere.  If those two players amount to one LT and one backup, we are 100% burning a first round pick to replace Lane in 2022 or 2023.

If the bookend OT's are figured out, then the roster needs just became a lot less overwhelming.

Yup. Both shots gave me a sore arm and that’s it.  My work all got the Pfizer vaccine and the vast majority of folks had minimal issues. It seems the Moderna one has had far worse symptoms. My wife was pretty sick for about 36 hours.

I have a pretty high level of confidence in Mailata. All the physical tools in the world, has already shown the ability to dominate at times on the field, still young, and has an understandable "excuse" for his lack of consistency which should be remedied through simple experience. Unless he never makes any progress in his football IQ, or decides he just doesn't like playing football, I think this kid ends up being a Pro Bowl level player -- and maybe even more than that.

Dillard, ironically, is harder for me to judge. But I don't see why he can't be a solid starter unless there is some massive mental issues that I'm unaware of. It's not as if he lacks talent.

I think the smart move would be to draft a raw, high upside, versatile OT/OG in the mid rounds. If both Dillard and Mailata work out, then you switch the guy to guard and you have the foundation for a really good OL. If one of the Dillard or Mailata don't pan out, then you've hedged your bets and should be OK,

Had no idea Lane had that big of a contract compared to everyone else

I had Moderna, if that helps (maybe Pfizer will let you off easy🤷).

I'm getting my 2nd shot on Thursday, first shot my arm was just a little sore, I'm immuno suppressed so I've been hesitant and my sister in law who is a nurse and also immuno suppressed has said that younger people tend to show more symptoms after vaccination due to having stronger immune system reactions and older people not as many or severe due to weaker immune systems, so maybe I'll be off the hook, I'm not old age but I am immuno depressed so we'll see.

To all y'all on here getting it soon good luck, for those that already had it good job,👍

Good luck. I had some symptoms, but fortunately nothing crazy. Pure exhaustion more than anything.

There is already a Tim Tebow analogue in today's NFL and he plays for New Orleans.

Any Tebow comparison to Hurts should not be taken seriously.

Yeah, Tebow had a better rookie season.

No, I don't think Tebow is better.

Yep, that was my experience (which was also the case when I had COVID). If it wasn’t for work/kids, I would just turn on baseball and nap right through it.

Look at the contracts he's given to his current players.   He overpays, due to excessive loyalty.  Brooks, Johnson, Ertz (which he turned down, but was overpaying), Jeffery, Peters, but yeah, I'm building the narrative on a single example.  There are no other players that Howie has become obsessed over and overpaid.

Those 2 (Jackson/Hurts) are overtly 'we're the smartest ones in the room' type things.  It's a theme that you subtly have been able to pick up for quite up for quite a few years.  Whether it's in regards to moves, things said in pressers, etc.  Chimp Kelly is another prime example, the pressers and comments after that hiring (especially from Napoleon complex Howie) are quite hilarious in retrospect.

What a really dumb post, lmao

Wow Phils sweep Braves. Don’t expect them to keep winning if they hit like they did this series but the Pitching was Great. Shocked by this bullpen so far.
