January 11, 20214 yr So what are the chances we have an actual move made on Doug today vs. Lurie now saying, after meeting with DP, Howie and I are going to sit down and go over the best course moving forward which of course just drags this out even longer.

There's no debate about that. And had they gotten the guy they wanted... Was it Gase? How would that have turned out? Not as good, I bet.

January 11, 20214 yr 6 minutes ago, Iggles_Phan said: My issue with Howie is two-fold... one, his drafting has sucked... and it has sucked going back quite a ways. Howie had three periods 2011-2012, in collaboration with AR who had grabbed veto power 2013, first year of Chip when he didn't have his people on board 2016 to now. 2011 was an awful draft, though he found Kelce in the 6th rd 2012 was a great draft, Cox #12, Kendricks #46, Curry #59, Foles #88, Kelly #153, Brown #229 2013, Lane #4, Ertz #35, Logan #67, Poyer #218 [2014 was awful, 2015 ok with Agholor, Rowe and Hicks] 2016: Wentz #2, Seumalo #79, Vaitai #164, Mills #233, Walker #251 2017: Barnett #14, Jones #43, Douglas #99, Hollins #118, Gerry #184 2018: Goedert #49, Maddox #125, Sweat #130, Pryor #206, Mailata #233 2019: Dillard #22, Sanders #53, JJAW #57 2020: Reagor #21, Hurts #53, Taylor #103, Wallace #127, Driscoll #145, Hightower #168, Bradley #196, Watkins #200, Prince #210, Toohill #227 every player in this draft got some PT in the NFL this season, there's a chance it produces 3-4 starters down the road. Most drafts land you 2 starters and maybe 1-2 solid reserves. People have an exaggerated valuation of draft picks, even when a team has a great draft it's often sandwiched between two meh drafts. A great draft lands you 3-4 starters, one of which is pro bowl caliber. 2012 and 2013 were those kinds of drafts, of course picking at #12 and #4 helps. I don't like using rounds, there's a huge difference between say #68 their third rd this season, and #103 the "3rd rd" pick used on Taylor. Or between #6 and #21. 2018-19 were crippled by the Wentz tradeup and the Tate deal. Don't know if Pederson got more pull after the SB win. One thing stands out, Howie does his best drafting in the later rounds when I suspect his HCs lose interest and it's him, scouts and position coaches (Stoutland) he trusts.

He won’t be able to attract high level candidates because he looks like a lame duck at best. Lurie is delusional. Just fire him if you don’t trust his recommendations. Because Lurie knows this is, in large part, his own doing. So firing Doug is an admission that he screwed up, and Im sure he feels guilty making Doug a fall guy when he knows he didnt put him in the best position
January 11, 20214 yr Caplan and Mosher killed Doug on their latest ITB episode. Said Doug went into the meeting totally unprepared. He should have went in with multiple names at each coaching opening, but he didn't. Was very stubborn with his choices, especially Press Taylor. Said it may sound like Lurie is being meddlesome, but they said when Doug's coaching choices have been so awful, what do you want Lurie to do?

But to really assign blame proportionately, you'd have to have an understanding of how all the pieces work together. At least at this point, we don't have that. Therefore I find it really challenging to be confident with any solution other than "clean house" and start over. Amen. When the dysfunction runs this deep... that's the only way. This was a car wreck season. The insurance company has come in and said, "it's a total loss." So, they take the car to the junk yard, they will scrap it for parts and salvage whatever value they can to cover the measly check you get in return. Meanwhile, you need to go out and get yourself a new whip. The insurance check would be akin to the #6 pick in the draft.

I'm going to ignore the Howie spin... it makes me dizzy, but please identify who these 3-4 starters for down the road are, based on what we actually saw during the their limited playing time this past year. Do tell though... why not list Shareef Miller and Clayton Thorson amongst the picks when the HC loses interest and just relies on the scouts, etc.? Or Elijah Qualls, or any others. Howie wasn't 'hamstrung' by those trades. Those were calculated risk in the price to land your franchise QB. BUT... he compounded the lack of picks with poor free agent signings and poor drafting... and then hamstrung his franchise QB by giving him DRECK at the WR position, while his coach wants to throw the ball 65% of the time...

Maybe doug went in unprepared and the way he did cause doug really doesn’t want to be here anymore. Maybe he believes he can go elsewhere and get a HC job where he gets to pick his own staff and continue calling plays.
