January 11, 20214 yr All this Howie hate, I think folks need to keep in mind Doug wasn’t fired because the team went 4-11-1. The coaches fired after bad seasons were let go the day after the season. Doug was fired due to philosophical differences with the organization. Doug wanted to elevate coaches internally, which would give him more power over the team from an operational and play calling perspective. The problem is, the guys he wanted to elevate (or bring back in the case of Undin) aren’t good coaches, and don’t have credentials. The Eagles essentially had no choice but to proceed in this direction. Doug wasn’t here a short time; 5 years is more than average for an NFL head coach. As far as Howie goes, the GM has a longer rope than the head coach — he just does As far as Wentz goes, Lurie has more invested in Wentz than Doug; I’ve been saying that for a long time. The Eagles will give him one more season; I believe he returns to playing at a top 10 QB level. If he doesn’t, they’re still in position to draft a new QB in 2022 and much less dead money to eat.

January 11, 20214 yr 11 minutes ago, eagle45 said: My take on the unique psychology of the Lurie/Roseman/Doug power structure: It's no secret that Lurie and Howie had a very similar upbringing. Neither had the physical opportunity to participate in competitive sports growing up. Lurie admired Howie's rapid ascent through the football ranks given that similar background. Their common ground and almost certainly common wavelength in personnel opinions also introduced a very intimate relationship...one that allows Lurie to have his cake and eat it too. Howie almost certainly makes Lurie feel and be heard. Lurie gets to have very meaningful involvement with the day-to-day of the team without the public exposure and stigma of being a meddlesome owner like Jerry Jones or Schnider. A big name "football guy" at GM? That's a gamble if they'll let Lurie step into that inner circle of decision-making without the accountability and stigma that come with it for the owner. But Howie always will. Step down a rung to Doug Pederson. He was just happy to get the job in 2016. He's a mild mannered guy with a manageable ego who was happy to defer to a GM without that football background (and don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that football background is necessary; but the lack of it makes it harder to command respect from others in this business). But with Doug, Howie didn't have to fight for that. Doug literally got fired today because he wouldn't let them continue to pull the strings anymore. This is all about control. Howie is here because of the control he slides under the table to Lurie. Doug was here because of the control he deferred to Howie. And the new HC who is hired will be someone who yields to this structure. Don’t disagree. However i think doug wanted to leave to go elsewhere anyway so he was ok with it cause he knew there would be another HC job and one with more power for him and keep play calling. while i agree with what you wrote, doug isn’t remotely close to being fired if he didnt also do a poor job maximizing talent he had and game plans and adjusting with the offense for the better part of the last 3 years. I think howie is more responsible for the lousy roster but doug didn’t help matters in terms of player development nor maximizing the talent he did have. It’s why i always said the last 2 years before this season there was always December doug and first three months doug. First three months they have no clue how to utilize their personnel to their strengths and then December have a light bulb moment. Can’t win big consistently in the nfl being inconsistent for 3 months then figuring it out in the last month.reason why the no. 1 one seed has made the super bowl in the nfc in like 8 of the last 9 years.

January 11, 20214 yr You guys just don't get it. Howie is a great GM and drafter. It's a known fact he was planning on taking Chase Young at #19 last year and then Justin Herbert in the second, and would have if not other teams jumped his picks. You can't really blame him for that.
January 11, 20214 yr You're high as a kite if you think the Cowboys are in a worse position than the Eagles are.
January 11, 20214 yr Just now, RLC said: Less injuries* They doubled down on Mike McCarthy. That has no chance of succeeding. Less injuries? They lost literally their entire OL and starting QB due to injury. They lost their TE, DT, CBs. The Eagles were the only team in the division that didn't lose a QB at any point due to injury. With Prescott that team wins more games and win the division quite easily. We won 4 games with no QB injuries.

That's misreading things... but that fits. In Round 2, they miscalculated on Dalvin Cook and didn't want to trade up for him (ok...) and then went with Sydney Jones... Trading back would have been a better move.. or going with either of my guys.. Kareem Hunt or Chris Godwin there. Could have gone Alvin Kamara too. Then, when the 3rd round came around, they still needed a CB, because they knew Jones had no chance of playing in 2017... so they went Rasul Douglas, who apparently, they loved. But, if they were still looking for a RB... James Conner was there then...or if Cohen is really your guy, then you pull the trigger on him then. They couldn't have been that high on Cohen to have passed on him 3 times already. But even so... Marlon Mack would have been a better pick than Pumphrey... and wouldn't have required a trade up. Oh well... at least we got out '2nd' choice... Finding a RB isn't like finding a franchise QB... there are multiple RBs every year that can play... if there's only 1, then you can't wait until Round 4 to grab that guy if its that important to your plans.

We’ll see who the Eagles bring in as a coaching staff, but DAL don’t have a good staff and their roster construction is poor. I was wrong about the Eagles this season, but I was right that DAL would win less than 8 games. If they cave and pay Dak $38M+ I predict they’ll win less than 8 games next season as well.

Man, we can't figure out the medical staff.
