Yikes. Many of your boldest players aren’t close to as good as Goedert. Ebron, Thomas, Njoku (seriously, wtf), Tonyan.

Blocking matters. Goedert might be one of the best three or four two-way TEs.

The only thing limiting Goedert has been health and Ertz.

Ha! And you thought my list was bad

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Tonyan had a heck of a season , 11 TDS on 3.6 targets per game , Kielce need almost 10 targets per game to reach his 11 TDS

He’s a good player, but that type of TD rate isn’t sustainable.

I can’t believe I read on an Eagles board that Njoku is better than Goedert. He has like 250 yards over the past two years and he’s been a disappointment.

Yeah, that's more of a GB/Aaron Rodgers thing anyway.

6’10’’ 260lb Lamar Odom boxed 6’0” 175lb Aaron Carter for some reason. Boxing is dead.

Just watched the highlights and let me tell you, it was awful.  It was like watching a couple 5 year olds fighting each other.

Yup. It was hilariously worse than Mayweather/Paul. I see this being the path boxing goes down. Celebrity vs celebrity for $$$ and trash fights.

The guy who organizes these fights is doing just that, broke celebrity's fighting each other to make a quick buck.

Still I wouldn't consider this boxing.  This is something that shouldn't even be classified as boxing.

The biggest issue with goedert is that he's hurt all the damn time, same thing with sanders. And thats playing backup TE snaps, what happens when he plays majority of snaps? Guy will be broken by week 3

I'm basing that purely on his potential.  Last year he was bad, no denying that.  I still like his upside..

Also, of those I bolded, I should have said they are better or on the same tier as DG.  The argument was that DG is a top 10 TE.  I just don't think he is.   Of the young FA TE this year I think Mark Andrews is the cream of the crop followed by Gesicki and then the rest, including DG are all on the same talent level just offering different things.

Not sure Henry and Jonnu Smith are top TE's.  Right now its Kelce, Kittle and Waller.

I do agree that Goedert hasnt proven anything. Maybe if Ertz is gone and he's the clear cut #1 guy then maybe he can show what he has.

I was looking for him to ball out last year but he disappointed.  Maybe getting put to sleep at that bar in the offseason messed with his head a little.

The lack of Goedert's production last year has to be taken with a grain of salt since he was playing with Wentz who was playing like the worst QB in the NFL.  It's why I also give Reagor a bit of a pass along with his injuries.  I think people are forgetting how horrific Wentz was last season.

Goedert’s 16-game pace last year was 66 catches for 762 yards in a dysfunctional offense. And he’s an elite blocking tight end, which people seem to disregard or at the very least significantly underrate.

He just has to stay healthy.

Do you value blocking at all?

Goedert is a good tight end. I'd still explore trading him if the price is right.

I think people are assuming I want to trade him for the sake of trading him. That's not the case. I look at this team and realize we are likely three/four years away from truly competing and that's if Hurts pans out or the next guy we take ends up being the answer. By then Goedert will be in his 30s. That's again assuming QB is solved very quickly.

Suppose a team were to offer us a 1st and a 3rd for him, would you not consider it?

Of course I’d trade him for that. We aren’t getting that though.

To me this is a big year for Goedert.  He needs to have a good year or at least show he can be a good TE consistently.  If he has a disappointing season and/or is dealing with injuries again then the Eagles will need to be looking for a #1 TE for 2022.

I don't actually think that's his value, but my point is that I don't think it's as blasphemous to explore trading him as others make it out to be.

For Goedert?  That wont happen.

Think about the best TE in football, Kelce or Kittle depending on who you prefer.  Would you give up a 1st and 3rd for those guys?  I dont think I would.

I might give up a 1st for Kittle if he had a better record of staying healthy.

Of course but let's not act like we had a great blocking tight end in Ertz for the last 7 or so years.  I also wasn't saying bring in Njoku instead of Goedert...however, if Goedert wants $10-12 million and Njoku can be had for $7-8 million then you have some thinking to do.

Again, there are so many scenarios that can play out and I like to spitball ideas on different ways to construct the team.  We all have different ways of thinking.  Right now, given the salary cap issues the Eagles are facing and continue to face, I don't think paying top tight end money is a smart thing to do.

Last year, as TE3 with 4 starts, Dick Rod had 24 catches for 345 yards and 2 TDs on a $900k contract.  He filled in for Ertz and Goedert when both were injured and did a fine job.  Of course he's not the answer but just looking at his production when called upon.

Let's also look at the WR factor.  Ertz WAS the focal point and was a volume TE.  Is DG expected to be the same type?  I don't think so.  We have a young WR group that has pretty good potential so the tight end won't have to be the main target.

I just feel that spending top TE money is a luxury and you can get very solid TE production by mid-round and FA's.  Spend FA money wisely.

What does that even mean ? Other great QBs out there who don’t have TEs or WOs catching 11TDs , he has to get open. He has to catch it , that is a receiver thing .

per packers site

Rodgers has an astronomical 150.3 passer rating when targeting Tonyan, who has caught 41 of his 47 targets. Of the Packers’ 55 plays of 20 yards or more this season, 48 of them have been passes, and of those, Tonyan has accounted for nine. Only Adams (13) has more.

Yeah, no way even one 1st would happen. I'm not even sure a team does a 2nd straight up with the new contract looming, though I guess it's possible. Would I do it for a 2nd though? Honestly I would be torn. I see the upside there and love the blocking, but he hasn't put it all together yet and the injuries can't be ignored. I would look at a player going into the second year that I like. If the Bears would move CB Jaylon Johnson i'd explore that. If you could get Johnson plus a mid 2023 pick say, done deal. There's a lot of TE's in FA next year plus you have a nice haul of draft picks. Need a little luck with Miami and Colts to maximize the selections though.

Thank you for typing this.  I think a lot of guys on here see trades proposed and think we just want to get rid of players just to do so.

Half the fun of being on this board is to discuss different scenarios and things that could be done to improve the Eagles.

I think with Goedert as he is right now could maybe get us a 3rd in a trade.

I'd give him this year as the #1 TE and see what he does.  Not sure how much of a focal point TE's will be in this offense compared to Doug's.
