See my other post.  Moving or trying Mailata out at RT will stunt his growth/upside.  Bad Idea.  If Dillard is such a natural OL then he should be able to adapt and learn to play the right side.  Mailata is not a natural OL.  He wasn't even a natural football player.

See my above post.   This isn't true.  It has already happened, and happened 2 seasons ago.  His growth seems just fine even after the move and he played at RT for the Eagles in regular seasons this past season as well when Johnson was out, but Peters came back to struggle at LT.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Play Mailata at CB2

Maybe if he can avoid Tommy John surgery.

Howies biggest weaknesses, Day 2 of the draft and finding a backup QB.

Didn't our backup win the Super Bowl or did I dream that?

Way to discredit Foles, RTK Jr.

Left Out

Well, as mentioned.  Outside of technique there's the obvious difference of having your better tackle playing the blind side.  And since most QB's are right handed and left handed people are like lepers, than naturally you would want the more reliable and aggressive tackle playing the left side.  Outside of that, I wouldn't think they need to be any different if your talking run game.

That’s probably the case for a lot of teams based on offensive philosophy. Are you a zone based run scheme? A power blocking scheme? Do you prefer only 5 man protections to get five eligible receivers into the route?

In an increasingly passing league, I don’t think the previous stereotype of a RT holds up.

He's already been cross-training at RT.   He took all the snaps at RT in the preseason prior to the 2019 season.

Hasn’t he played RT in games too? Maybe I’m forgetting.

And he's been playing LT since then.  With limited spot duty at RT.  Let him continue to grow.  Only people who would rather see JM go to the right side over Dillard is people who aren't sold on JM as of yet.  Which is fine.  I think he's got a ton of potential.  And would like to see how that plays out.

Thanks.  I saw.

He played both sides last year.

I'm not referring to what I would prefer to happen, but I am mentioning the facts don't fit your take.  Mailata worked almost exclusively at RT in 2019, after working almost exclusively at LT in 2018.  In 2020, he worked on both sides, and he doesn't seem to have been limited at all in his development.  On the contrary, it seems to have helped his development as he was able to transition from playing LT to playing RT and then moving back to LT in the middle of the season.   That means that he is already more competent as a swing OT than Dillard has shown to this point in his career.

This is not a rating of one over the other as a prospect, just to keep the discussion on Mailata focused on what has actually transpired.

But, to get into the rankings... best case scenario, if Dillard can become the LT (meaning, wins the battle against Mailata), that means that the swingman naturally becomes Mailata, who is a player that has already proven to be capable in that capacity.   On the flipside, if Mailata wins the LT battle, and Dillard becomes the swingman... then there are more questions.  Does Dillard learn the right side enough to be successful?   Do they look to flip Mailata from LT to RT, if necessary, and mix up both spots, rather than just one spot?   Does Dillard bounce back from losing the battle in TC and come back as a fighter, or does he shrink back?  Those are big questions, and none of those questions would exist for Mailata if Dillard wins the LT battle and Mailata becomes OT3.

But, I have no skin in the game.  Let the best man win, and let the chips fall where they may.

Yes, last year he filled in for Johnson at RT when Peters came back to play LT.  Then Peters sucked at LT and Mailata moved back to LT.   I can't remember how many games he played at RT, it was at least one, but might have been as many as 3.

We are close to things getting really awkward with Ertz.  A little more than a month from camp and we all know he won't report.  He has to be livid at this point.  He lost all of this time, to get acclimated with his new team and city and moving his family.  He could have spent these past few months with his face in the new teams playbook.  It doesn't matter to me, I still say we should have traded him when he had value.  But I do know that this delay in him moving on has to be really pissing him off.

Then where is Davion Taylor going to play?

Well the way he half arsed it last year pissed me off so............................we're even.

They'll be a surprise. I'm confident in that.

Not a good surprise, mind you.

Shows how moronic the flacco deal was

Expect nothing and you won't be disappointed.

Been saying it since the moment he signed it.

I am sure they are letting Ertz talk with teams.  I wonder how much of it is the Eagles not getting any interest or Ertz not wanting to reach a deal on a new contract.  I mean if he's being told a team can't trade for him because the Eagles want too much then he should be upset.  If teams aren't willing to give him a deal he wants, then that's on him.

He at least has some experience catching a ball in game like conditions, most OL have none. Not thinking about him as a "true TE," rather those plays where he has to declare that he's an eligible receiver if he lined up outside Lane, throw it to him underneath and let him truck some LBs (should have a heck of a straight arm).

Though I've always thought that Lane could be dangerous as a TE with his athleticism and background as a QB and TE before he switched to OL, but at this point in his career you might be worried about getting him injured. Before he bulked up a bit he was probably faster than a lot of NFL TEs (4.7+ at 300 lbs at the combine).

There's no rules against DBs or LBs chopping Mailata down at the knees or ankles, increasing likely hood of injury.

Only time id throw him a pass as a tackle eligible is in the end zone less chance he takes any low hits.

Undoubtedly you mean when Sirianni is resting the starters because the Eagles have homefield advantage locked up already.

1 hour ago, ManuManu said:

Of course, but that’s not the point. You can have a finesse pass blocking RT.

I of all people am fine with a finesse pass blocking RT.  Lane Johnson profiled as that when he came out too.

Mailata is a bruiser, and despite his divination ceremony, has showed some repeated struggles with speed around the edge.

It just feels weird to have Mailata at LT with Dillard at RT.

Maybe he shouldn't have played like crap last year, maybe  more teams would want him and possibly be more willing to give up more.

As much as Ertz has meant to the eagles the last few years it's sad that he's going out on a low note.

Dude sulked like a little B all year then when the going got rough he and Wentz folded like cheap Wal Mart chairs then took their ball and went home.

Both are soft players, wouldn't suck so much if Ertz wasn't so Intregal to winning in 17,

He may just live long enough to see himself become  the villain.☹️
