The Eagles didn't try to trade up for Wilson, Howie kicked the tires and blanched at the price tag. That's due diligence for a GM.

The fact they had no interest in Lance and Fields at #12 tells you how they ranked them v Hurts, it would have been the "safe" move if they thought they were better than Hurts.

Hurts is in a great situation to succeed, top QB coaching, an athletic young receiving corp, RBs who can catch the FB, a top flight OL (if Brooks and Lane stay healthy, maybe the best in the NFL again). I don't care about 4 games last year in a screwed up situation with Toth and Pryor at OT and Reagor, Fulgham and Ward as your WRs. He showed in Oklahoma he can run a high tempo, high powered offense, will that translate to the NFL?  Who knows? He could fall on his face or be a top 10 QB.

However, it makes sense to gamble on Hurts if you thought Fields and Lance were meh. Why waste a 1st rd pick on a QB you don't think is top 20 when you already have a young QB you think is as good or better.

Not trading up for Lance or taking Fields at 12 says they didn’t see them as top of the line talent and not worth that kind of investment. I don’t think it says much at all about Hurts.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Hurts and Mullens will be having this conversation in training camp:

Not sure if this is meant as a joke or not. In case not... That stat is specifically defined as having protection.

I was being sarcastic.  To be fair PFF doesnt say how many clean pockets each QB had per game.

Uh, it was kind of "his fault".

Different game sure but Jordan/Nicklaus/Montana etc etc never seem to have had excuses "other than" hey man that guy just shattered my vertebrae.

Injuries when you can't play? Not your fault. Being on the field and playing like shite under trying circumstances? Still technically "your fault" .

What there is absolutely NO Excuse for is this.  Looking back, how DID things work out under the "Kobe rules" and the theme of

Inquiring minds who'll never do a single broadcast on the Weather channel want to know.

Yes #11 did have injuries to the O-line, bad WR core and bad coaches.  This has been beaten to death 10 million times.  But he did have times where he had protection and had guys open and couldnt make the play.

Trae Young needs to shave his head.  Unless he enjoys looking like George Jefferson.

Thanks Zig Ziglar.  Tell us more at the next horribly boring sales conference.

I hate to say it but I think we should trade Cox before the season starts. We would still get a decent return, it helps us with Goedert and Sanders, and it lets us be a bit more aggressive in free agency next year.

Is there really much difference between left and right tackle anymore? It’s not 1995.

In the abstract, not much. No more so than throwing right or left. How many of us can even sign our names with either hand?

I’m talking generally speaking in terms of typecasting (as in finesse pass blocker means he has to play left), not technique.

I think LT and RT stereotypes are outdated. The idea, of course, was to have the better pass protector protect the QB's blindside. The best rushers used to play on that side too. Now, elite pass rushers come from either side, and even right up the middle. I would also argue that I would rather have my better pass protector at RT. If the LT gets beat, I can scramble to my throwing side and keep the play alive. If the RT is beat and I have to run toward the left and throw against my body, you're going to be less effective. Most QBs can see when their blindside tackle is being beat. Not always, but they certainly have a feel for it.

You could see the lack of effort when the ball was coming his way and during his routes

He came back on a sprained ankle that he had surgery on after the season on a 4 win team.

Bad year two, bad body language at times maybe, no effort complete nonsense.

We we’re all frustrated last year and anybody who didn’t perform to expectations caught flak.

You could see it live and during replays. It was discussed in gameday threads but I have no issue with you not believing it 🤷‍♂️

No I did not. The requirements of the positions may mirror but the abilities of the pllayrrs do not. sheesh!

Switching to LT or RT is a lot more simple than throwing right or left.  And I am someone who has more hope for Dillard than most, yet doesn't want him to deal with the complexity of it.

A better comparison, maybe, is hitting right and left.

Of course not. I never said just because someone can play on the left side means they can play on the right or vice versa.

How does Embiid at 7’0 go 4/20 from the field?  God forbid he should get to the basket.  Playing right into the opponent’s hand.  Too soft

Wow... and Hurts didn't even put up a struggle to hold on to that title.   Disappointing.

His contract is fully guaranteed besides the incentives. He’s not going anywhere

And don't forget about the voided years on the back end that will cost extra money next year.

So, its either $3.5M dead this year to cut Flacco, or its $1.56M this year and $1.9M next year.   Either way, its $3.5M total... just a matter of how they slice it.

Lance went #3, so I assume you mean Fields and Mac Jones.

Wow... Dave Zangaro is running out of things to write about... 6 players who have Pro Bowl potential for the Eagles this season...

Dallas Goedert.   Ok.  Not a huge step out on this one.  He has flashed that kind of ability, so sure, he has that level of potential.

Miles Sanders.  This seems a bit more of a stretch to me, but fine.  He does have the ability to take it to the house from anywhere on the field, but this would be a massive jump for a guy yet to crack 900 rushing yards in a season.

Davonta Smith.  This is just low hanging fruit.  Heisman Trophy winning, National Champion, and first round pick WR who has virtually no competition to steal targets from him.

Then it just gets silly.  He'd have been better off sticking with a list of 3 than trying to expand it to twice that number.

He puts Jalen Hurts as the #4 option?  Wow.  That would be quite a leap.  Forget about the fact that there Qbs in the NFC that will get name recognition ahead of him.  Brady, Rodgers (maybe), Wilson lead the way and it would be an upset for a guy like Hurts to bump them off the pedestal.

Javon Hargrave.   Here's a guy that might have been better listed at #2.  IF he can play like he did down the stretch last year, maybe.  He'd need to play at near Pro Bowl level to live up to his contract though, now wouldn't he?

And finally.... Josh Sweat?   Another wow.  Here's a guy that's currently #3 on the depth chart at DE and hasn't played even close to 50% of the snaps in any given game... but now he's going to put up double digit sacks and get a Pro Bowl birth?    Maybe he should have just shortened his list.  It's not like having a list of '6' is really better  than '5', '4' or even '3'.

For my money, first time Pro Bowlers on this roster for 2021 could be Goedert, Hargrave, and Sanders.   Smith is a long shot.  He will be the focus of the defenses lining up against the Eagles.  Meaning, he's likely going to garner a lot of attention and Hurts isn't known for hitting receivers in tight windows.  He should be better than Reagor was last year, but its doubtful he's anything close to what Justin Jefferson (sigh) was for the Vikings.  And how frequently are rookie WRs Pro Bowlers?   It's pretty rare.  Hurts and Sweat just seem like names thrown out there to get to 6.  But, why 6?
