Would you rather have Mailata end up winning LT position because he's younger?

With how long good linemen play in this league I think the age difference between mailata and dillard is negligible. Mailata has size and strength over dillard, might move better as well.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Tony Dungy was real focused on changing habits. It is easy to revert to old habits and difficult to change and not revert in the heat of the game.

The problem I always found with trying to change muscle memory is sometimes the more I concentrated on the issue the more my attempts to change made things even worse. Look at all the golfing "training equipment” on the market, for example. Not sure Simmons is fixable.

This isn't 'the heat of the game'... this is foul shooting.   That is a respite from the heat of the game.  There is time to pause, collect one's thoughts and get right... which is why you see so many players go through a quick 'phantom' shot on their foul shot before the ball is given to them... they breath, they dribble, they center themselves.  Sorry, but the issue with the foul shooting is that he doesn't know what to do at all, so he can't try to fix the issue.   If he had ever worked with anyone on the foul shooting that had even the slightest clue, he'd have worked to bring his elbow in... and yet it sticks out constantly, every single shot like a broken chicken wing.   He's not working to fix his form, he is instead stubbornly shooting the same way now as he always has... with the same results.   In other words, he's just doing more of the same and hoping for a different result.

Meanwhile, if he changed his approach 180 degrees and actually went at it like Rick Barry, his previous muscle memory wouldn't be an issue at all.  Yes, it would look bizarre to some, perhaps to many.  But if he made foul shots more reliably, I think all would have to respect the effort.   But just doing the same thing over and over isn't the answer.  And Simmons doesn't get a pass on this.  He flexed his 'athleticism' and his super prospect status for all this time and has refused to really work on getting proper form.  There is nothing in his foul shot that is 'correct'.  I'd even go so far as to say that he's likely shooting the ball with the wrong hand.  He could try to shoot right handed and it might completely change everything... and again, it would change the muscle memory 100%.  But, it would require effort and to be vulnerable to criticism... then again, right now he is already vulnerable to massive criticism.

Lookkng like Nets which is a bummer.  I think we'd have a better chance against the Bucks.

Mailata is signed through 2021.  If he wins the LT, he then has to be signed next year as a starting LT.  That’s a lot of money. That plus the back injury history worries me a bit.  Dillard is signed through 2022 and the Eagles have a fifth year option. I was surprised at how well Mailata played last year but I don’t think he was as consistent as Dillard was the year before.

I hate to put things in the context of me but when I would shoot foul shots I would get "chicken wing” (horizontal elbow).  I would try everything to fix it but then it would pop up again.  But one of my best places to shoot a jump shot was from the foul line.  The difference was movement and feet.  Set three point shots, same thing.  On the move, never a chicken wing.   When I was coaching my son’s team when he was about eight I had a kid that had "chicken wing”. My assistant was a great foul shooter.  He said his record was 98 in a row and I believe it.  I would tell the kids to listen to me but do it like he did.  He and I worked on that kid with chicken wing all season.  Couldn’t cure it. I even learned to shoot Barry style.  Problem was the eight year old wasn’t strong enough to learn that technique. I just don’t think Simmons can be cured.

BTW, how is the garden?  My lettuce and spinach was crazy as of last week.  On the road now but my peppers were doing great as were my tomatillos which like my zucchini, were flowering. Strawberry crop from hanging strawberries was a flop.  Figure I am about a month away from salsa verde. Already on my second planting of cilantro due to the heat wave and have my third in the ground.

Great game.

Bucks it is then.  Still a very tough team for the Sixers if they advance but I like it better than the Nets.

Les Bowen retired. Can’t say I was a huge fan but he was better than some of the rest like ESP

Well, it worked for Set Shot in The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh so why not?  And for the little country bumpkin in Hoosiers. Ollie!  "After Ollie makes his 2nd shot.....".  "Make it a good one, Strap".

The Eagles beat needs a reset, most of the current group is absolute garbage. Bowen was less horrible than the others but I don't think he was as great as he's being propped up to be by his fellow media members.

I don’t really know what you guys expect.  This is just a game…and a game in an era where everything there is to know (drama, trades, feuds, etc) is broadcast live on Instagram and Twitter direct to those who consume the information.  I don’t know why we are expecting Walter Cronkite here.

It also would eliminate the muscle memory problem... and let him start fresh.  People laughed at Rick Barry... but he was 89%.  Top 5 all time in the NBA, I believe and was the best ever for a while, I think.

Have you ever listened to the Malcolm Gladwell podcast episode (mostly) about Rick Barry and Wilt Chamberlain? It’s really good.

Wow.  I am off the boards for a couple of days and miss all the drama.  Guess I got go catch up.

Unless there’s some sort of sudden decline in his performance, pretty sure he’s already won it, IMO.

I don't know why people are so sure about this I really don't. Mailata was very good, good and at times decent but he also had his struggles. Should he continue to improve? Yes but it isn't like Dillard isn't a very talented LT.

Happy Father’s Day to the dads on here!

My son went 2/2 at the plate and a run scored.  Pitcher threw a no hitter. And they won the minor league championship. Solid start to the fathers day.

Cookout with my parents.  Then either swimming,  or mini-golf and ice cream.

Then watch the 6ers dominate game 7 to end the night.

Sorry for the late response.   My garden is a bit of a mess this year.   Things got crazy right at the end of the school year and some other things never got done.

I was going to put up a new trellis system... 4 foot rebar hammered down 2 feet, then a 10 foot electric conduit pipe placed over that... then stringing up the tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, etc. on that.  But they ran out of 4 foot rebar pieces and I never got enough, so the trellis was never built.   Then I never got around to starting the cucs or the zucchini this year.  I might plant some this week for when I get back... but they will just get to run wild on the ground instead of rising up.

The lettuce, spinach, etc. was doing great.  Then it recently bolted.  I also let the radishes go that I didn't eat... to draw in more pollinators... for the cucumbers I never got around to starting.  So... all in all a bit of a quagmire.  But, I did learn that radish flowers are quite lovely and grow on stalks about 4 feet tall.   That was a cool revelation.

But, there's still time to get the fall garden sorted out for when I get back after my summer travel.

The problem I always found with trying to change muscle memory is sometimes the more I concentrated on the issue the more my attempts to change made things even worse. Look at all the golfing "training equipment” on the market, for example. Not sure Simmons is fixable.

Free throws are a warning sign, probably hand to eye coordination combined with spatial recognition. While Simmons had great body control, he's really not a great passer, a lot of his passes come from that body control and arm strength, that is, much like McNabb he can use that athleticism to open passing lanes, but he doesn't see the game like the great point guards.

Guys who shoot FTs at a high percentage can learn to shoot jump shots at a high %, the basic physical skill is there, so the muscle memory is about catching and shooting at different angles, which is practice, practice, practice. But I'll bet there are few good shooters who are bad FT shooters. So come the draft, that's a good indicator whether a 19 year old kid can improve his shooting range.

Matisse for example, has struggled with FT in the NBA (low volume), but in college was a 78.2% shooter, so there's reason to think he can become a better all around shooter.

Simmons shot 67% in college, last two seasons 62% and 61%, while his PO woes are a mental block (Bill Blass syndrome), it's obvious he's never going to improve that much.

Maxey shot 83% in college, 87% in the NBA this season, look for his 30% 3 point shooting to improve by leaps and bounds the next few years.

Isaiah Joe shot 76% and 89% FT in college, don't be surprised if he becomes a dead eye shooter in the pros.

Reed was 77% and 74% his last two college years, so there's potential to become a decent pro shooter.

Korkmaz has shot 76% & 73% FT the last two seasons, he may not have much room for improvement as a shooter. His 39% 3 point the last two seasons may be his ceiling.

My son scored the game-winning goal in a Dek hockey shootout in the pouring rain. It was worth getting soaked.
